For $15 for this absoulte masterpiece of a game, you cant say no. The amount of modding capbilitys and rich lore could pull anyone in, even newcomers to the Elder Scrolls series. The amount of nostalgia linked with this game is unreal.

Basically the game Bethesda SHOULD be remaking, since it would be so much better than a remade Skyrim that is no different than normal Skyrim with mods. But seriously, Oblivion is really fun. When you go through quests you get a bit more of what your character's thought process is, which is nice. There are much less NPCs who get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with you, especially after going through certain quests. Spell creation, 'nuff said. Albeit, the sneak and lockpicking mechanics are worse in this in my opinion, but the sneak can be overlooked, and well, yeah I hate the lockpicking but if there's something where luck won't do me right, there's always console commands. It's also kind of hard to level magic skills that start off below 25 since there are very very few spells that can be used, and some that won't have any effect on most enemies. Overall though I think I might like this over Skyrim, and even if not it should be the one to get remastered.

tl;dr: Sneak, lockpicking, and <25 spells are eh, but overall very good. Especially if on sale.

My childhood game.
This game is fantastic in every way, this game is not visually stunning at the present time. There are ways to avoid this one problem with this game, I've been playing since release and I've not explored the whole of this game. I recommend this game! (:

Really really good (bought this in 2016) just hate the stuttering. Get Oblivion Stutter Remover (OSR) and Streamline mods to improve performance of the game on modern PCs as it seems to be poorly optimized.

'The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion' is one of my favorites games and played this game way back in middle school. Coming from 'Morrowind' this game is a vast improvement in nearly every aspect. Morrowind is my personal favorite amongst the franchise, however, I'm not going to deny that Oblivion is an amazing game in nearly every aspect.

Coming from Morrowind, this game blew me away back then since it vastly improved the visuals considering the dead and volcanic region of Morrowind is really contrasted with the bright and colorful vibrancy of Cyrodill. The whole game is alost like a painting since it embodies the typical fantasy aspect of Role-playing games since it's so bright, colorful, but has its dark corners that just beg to be explored. In terms of content, this is packed with several places to explore, all the guilds you are already familiar with if you're coming from 'Skyrim' (e.g.; Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Fighter's Guild, and Mage's Guild). With that said, Oblvion's flaw with exploring ruins is that the ruins are practically copy-and-pasted. You explore caves and ruins throughout the map of Oblivion, however, they all seem to be very similar in style to the point where you feel you're exploring the same ruins. I remember it was a bragging point from Bethesda prior to Skyrim's release that every dungeon was hand-crafted, meaning that no two places were the same. Although, if you're new to Oblivion, I believe you'll be enamored with the content of Oblivion that you'll always be entertained. Whether it be side-quests, guild quests, you'll be too busy having fun to notice this flaw until dozens of hours into it.

Another preference I have for this game is that the aforementioned praise of Oblivion's vivid world also contrasts it from Skyrim since Skyrim is supposed to be more dark and appears to have a gray filter slapped on it. This game feels more alive in that sense, but it's all in preference since skyrim is practically the land of vikings and mountains so each Elder Scrolls game has appropriate tone to its environment. Furthermore, I much prefer the combat in Oblivion since I love the physics in this game. Seriously, you can shoot someone with an arrow and they'll do a backflip before they ragdoll to the floor. It's awesome. In Skyrim, it's meant to be more realistic so they improved the physics so that they fall more realistically and they even added dual-wielding which was a big added feature. This game lacks dual-wielding, so if you're looking forward to that, sorry bud. On the bright side, the combat is much better to that of Morrowind's since they got rid of the "dice roll" mechanic where you would miss despite them being right in front of your face.

Oblivions a really great game, but for me the Shivering Isles is what puts this game so far up my favorites. It's funny and random but under all of the craziness is a story I really enjoyed. <3

Do you mind? I'm busy doing the fishstick, It's a very delicate state of mind.

Only a few hours in, and although there aren't too many character customization options like Skyrim does. Ho-ly crap does it make up for the tons of content. I feel like this is the Fallout 3 to Fallout 4, whereas the newer game dumbed down the game a little to cater towards more players, but the earlier one has much better gameplay overall.

3 hours in, and planning on more, as much as my statements probably don't count, considering low playtime. I do reccomend this game, and while it may be confusing at first if you've already played Skyrim, its super addicting.

Please, do yourself a favor, and if you have a life, don't buy this game, but if you don't like the rest of us basement dwellers, pick it up, its totally worth the price.

Amazing
Rating: 9/10

Great when it was released despite its flaws. Still holding up strong these days thanks to the mods.
Visiting Cyrodill again is a pleasure even after 10 years.

Oblivion, the prequal to Skyrim and the sequal to Morrowind, released 20th of March 2006 was the fourth installment of The Elder Scrolls franchise.

There are things i think that Oblivion did better than skyrim;
1. The class system was better, you chose your star sign right at the start NOT JUST THE THIEF, MAGE AND WARRIOR, all of them, your attributes and class was chosen right at the beginning of the game as well as the star signs.

2. I thought that the magica system in the game was better as you could use the restoration or any destruction spell whilst wielding your weapon instead of having to unequip your weapon and equip the spell.

3. I overall think that the main questline for Oblivion was better, as i spent a good 20 hours on it compared to when I completed Skyrim's questline at just 5 hours. The questline of Oblivion was also much more diverse and detailed compared to slaying Alduin which is nearly exactly as difficult to take down as a normal dragon. I found defeating Mankar Camoran was quite the challange

I'd just like to add that i totally prefur Skyrim over Oblivion just because there is much more to do in the way of exploring and the guild questlines were better in my opinion.
