"A solid interpretation of the overlooked cult classic. Music by Machinae Supremacy is the highlight, otherwise just a solid platformer."

About This Game

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is a blistering hardcore platformer with contrasting worlds. Warp Giana’s vivid dreams to alter your abilities and destroy the twisted creatures lurking within. Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams combines the challenge of retro era platforming with graphics that pack a visual punch and tight controls.

Fluidly morph between two dynamically different dream worlds to solve puzzles and combat grueling enemies. Players will have to intertwine sweet Giana's twirling jump attack with Punk Giana's hammering dash attack to survive the dualling dimensions.

Key Features

  • Powerful Abilities: Change Giana's personality to unlock her unique abilities - you'll need to control both sides to survive her dreams!
  • Intuitive Controls and Smooth Gameplay: Master the tight knit controls to defeat the cunning trials ahead.
  • Visual Punch:Giana’s dreamworlds leap off the screen with gorgeous 3D graphics that morph before your eyes.
  • Twisted Puzzles: As Giana changes, so does the world around her. Collecting gems and finding secret locations requires strategy and interchanging the two worlds.
  • Legendary Soundtrack:Each dream layer has its own music style. Experience a dual crossfading soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck and Machinae Supremacy!
  • Explore and Discover: There are 23 rich levels across 3 distinct worlds, each transforming into the two contrasting dreamworlds.
  • Epic Boss Battles:Take on gigantic creatures dredged from the depths of Giana’s most terrifying nightmares. Each unique boss has only one thing in common with the others – they’re utterly brutal!
  • Gut-wrenching Hardcore Modes: Hardcore and Über Hardcore modes also await players who are full masters of the game and quite possibly insane.
  • A remixed “easy” mode for all levels and bosses. The remixed mode is a lot easier to survive than its standard mode. The “easy” difficulty for Giana should roughly correspond to the “normal” difficulty for casual platformer games.
  • Extras: Halloween-themed levels accessible from the start.

__________

I got 2 news for you - good and bad. Which one I should start from? Guess, starting from the bad one would be wiser, because the good one will soften the final effect. So, after my first Giana Sisters run I was left with a poor impression. The game seemed tedious, boring, frustratingly difficult at times... in short, pretty dull. So I decided to make it one more time so I could spew in my anger and write a bad review! I don't know what exactly happened to the game or what happened to me, but this time I enjoyed the process!

Thing is, the game is really that difficult, sometimes monotonous, sometimes boring. Maybe the problem is that every platformer, being a rather fast-paced genre in terms of gameplay still requires some patience. I addressed a question to 100 random platformers I'd met on the street and 90 of them answered: "Do not speed things up too much if you don't want the game to become boring too soon". It makes sense.

Yes, the game is harsh, so do not expect it to be completed it one go, you will fail. Levels seem quite repetitive, because most part of them are made out of the same pieces tossed together. Besides, developers have rather strange view on navigation. Levels are filled with pointers and arrows which basically confuse more than provide help.

But! It's got mechanics that overweighs everything. Say, cross the hole with spikes; fight through a hall with enemies and traps; find a secret area or deal with a tough boss. Giana Sisters got it all what you might fancy in your mind when being asked a question "What should a platformer have?" Add a beautifully written soundtrack to the mix, plus Hardcore game mods for true perfectionists. One of those mods requires a player to complete the game in one go, with no checkpoints! I heard about a guy who could do it. Poor fellow, wish I could see him...

Try it and remember - do not rush.

Giana Sisters is one of these games whose beauty lies in their ridiculus difficulty level. Do not even try without a pad.

Giana is a game of three tricks: spinning slowfall (as yellow) fireball jump (as red) and colour switching (twists the world so that some platforms become accessible or traps become disabled). All you need is to master the proper usage of proper trick in proper place and proper time. There is not healthbar. First mistake and Giana is dead (unless she has a shield gem, two mistakes in this case), You are going to die, a lot. Fortunaltely at lower difficulties, there are 'infinite lives' and quite frequent checkpoints. Hardcore is one live per level (no checkpoints). Uber hardcore is one live per the game (death = restart from level 1),

Giana looks somehow childlish, enemies and the environment look more funny then scary, even in the Yellow's Nightmare. The locations are rather limited: forrest, cave, castle, underwater. Approx 24 levels to go (plus bonus levels), Later they can can take several hours per level to complete (depends on your symbioss with the pad). Marvelous gallery can be unlocked.

Do not play, if You:
* don't like to die (a lot)
* don't like childish graphics

Do play, if:
* love challenges

Have you ever wanted to experience Halloween or Christmas in a videogame? Yes? No? Maybe so? Well, this game lets you slide around Christmas Village and all those nasty woods and hollows. True, it's only about six special levels of the game, but it sure is a fun and unique addition to the game. I'm surprised the industry hasn't manufactured more Christmas themed games after all these years.

Very true to old-school platformers with a few simple abilities and level designs, where you constantly have to stay on your toes to know what abilities to use to get forward.

Game also looks fantastic and the soundgreat is great. This is how you do a modern platformer in my book.

Giana Sisters is a great game. some controls issues and 1 foot platforms are its downside. but in overall it's a great game and you can have lots of fun playing it. of course you'll die like hell and be really, really frustrated sometimes because of the issues I mentioned but if you have patient you'll manage to finish it.

While the difficulty in this game can be a bit unforgiving at some periods (especially very quickly into the game), this is definitely an enjoyable experience. Simple yet engaging gameplay, awesome music and graphics, and overall, one platformer you wouldn't want to miss!

This is a fun little platformer that's both cute and insanely difficult. Given that I've been in a sustained argument with someone here about their belief that Easy mode was too hard... I think that sends it home. Know what you're getting into.

But this is still a very good Mario-esque platformer with absolutely gorgeous graphics, a cute aesthetic, and a rather neat "alternate reality" mechanic for dealing with some enemies/puzzles.

Liked the original very much and was lucky to see this one coming out. Unfortunately, the game does not play very well. I did not manage controlling the sisters properly.

Frustrating. That's the best word to describe Giana Sisters with. I'm no stranger to difficult platformers (Super Meat Boy is one of my favorite games of all time), but this game just doesn't do it for me. The levels are too long, and the checkpoints too few - you end up replaying large sections over and over again because of cheap deaths. This game's been sitting in my backlog for almost 2 years, playing it off and on, because I have to willfully force myself to finish it. The transformation mechanic is neat, the graphics are good, but the level design is filled with leaps of faith, enemies hiding in blind spots, and is just generally not fun to play.

Written by someone who did not know the franchise.

Giana Sisters is a game of mechanics, which are quite nice and you can do some pretty crazy stuff with them. There were quite a few moments in which the momentum brought out by the skills precision was both fun and felt rewarding.

The soundtrack is ok. Machinae Supremacy together with the developers managed to create something fun, and not very tiring. However I do wish they could've done some more tracks since in the end you start to tune it out.

The art style is quite nice and it relies on the trope of Flower girl --> Grim world / Punk girl --> Cute world. But in a way I did get all my favorite things in one single personality. PUNK GIANA FOREVER.

Now the bad parts:

- There's a story, but it's as engaging and as complex as a trip to the supermarket.

- The boss battles are quite weak. Not difficulty wise, but gameplay wise. You spend most of the game feeling free while honing your personalities skills to their max, just to get that same freedom taken away. The last boss battle was so frustrating that once I died to him after landing the killing blow I quit the game and just watched the ending. I then felt enraged for wasting over 7 hours playing the last chapter (4 of those in the boss) to be delivered such a weak ending.

- In this day and age, why the hell should I be forced to replay a level in order to get X number of currency/item in order to access the boss level. And worst of all they don't seem to pass over to the following chapters. Usually when this happens I just quit the game, since I hate replaying and I find this a ♥♥♥♥ poor job of extending the game lifespan.

- The last chapter is useless. It's the largest and yet it barely introduces any new entertaning mechanics. However it does force you to master those your core skills, if you haven't done so in the previous two chapters...

- There's barely any enemy diversification.

- If you use a controller, which you should, get ready to deal with the bug that let's your computer start up the screensaver.

In the end, as much as I would like to recommend this game for the core mechanics and the art/sound style, it is a poor title in my eyes. At most get it in a sale and play 2/3 of it for the experience and sheer pleasure of honing your skill as a fireball combo machine.

I did not play the DLC since I was sick of the game by the end of it.

P.S. Played with an arcade stick.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is a very well done remake, with some modern gameplay dynamics that will appeal the player. It's frenetic, it's hard, it's indie and it's a good platform game!

The Good:
+Great Graphics and Atmosphere
+Great platforming elements, the main gameplay revolves around you "switching" worlds on the fly to collect gems and reach new platforms to progress through the level.
+Good level of difficulty that ramps up nicely and provides a nice level of challenge
+Lots of modes for replayability ie. score attack, time attack, hardcore mode

The Bad:
- Can get frustrating at times

This is one of the best platforming games I have played in recent memory. This is definitely a good game and one worth checking out.
