・TUTORIAL:
Rose Bernstein, hostess of the tournament, will teach you the basic techniques as well as explain the gauges and their uses. First time KOF players should start here to get used to the game.

・CUSTOMIZE:
This mode allows you to edit your online profile and change character color palette. You can create a team to use online, add icons collected while playing, or enter a preset message that you want to use in your profile. For each character, you can make up to five custom color patterns. Show off your personality on the worldwide stage!

KoF 13 is a nice game! I'd recommend it to fans of the franchise or players who have played other fighting games, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a "first fighting game" and here's why.

At time of posting, I'm 2 hours in KoF 13, have 93 hrs in Blazblue CSE, and a few hours in KoF 2002. (And also a bunch of other fighters and consoles stuff from ages ago.) Although these aren't a LOT of hours in KoF 13, it's still enough to see a buch of different modes and get a feel for things. I doubt my opinion will change too much later on, and I want to post these observations while they're fresh. Fwiw I will probably put a bunch more time into this game 'cause I like it, even though I like Blazblue better.

Improvements over KoF 2002:
-Color select menu with preview.
-Any controller can play on either side in local mp.
-720p sprites, much higher in resolution and they look better.
-Better tutorials and movelist in 13. 2002 has a very very barebones tutorial.
-Better Menus.
-Probably a bunch of other improvements.

Ways KoF 13 isn't as good as KoF 2002:
-Less characters in KoF 13 than 2002.
-Some background stages are more charming in KoF 2002 than 13. (13 stages look better overall)
-Less charming character art imo in KoF 13 than 2002 in some ways. (13 looks better overall)
-Some character design changes, maybe for worse.
-Gameplay changes may annoy purists. *shrug*

Ways Blazblue is better, especially for newcomers to the genre:
-Blazblue has a better tutorial with explanations about why and how etc. Tutorial is much longer, and fully voice acted. KoF 13 tutorial is much shorter, no voice acting.
-Blazblue is more elegant and easy to learn in terms of inputs and game systems.
-Blazblue has more accessible combos and inputs.
-Blazblue has easier to read movelist, better menus.
-Blazblue has both english and japanese voice acting. KoF 13 only has Japanese (I think?) and only for in battles.
-Blazblue has a much better written story, full voice acted, you can advance at your own pace. KoF has no story voice acting, story advances automatically without your input. This means story will either be too slow or fast.

Neutral:
-Sprites designed in 720p look like crap in not 720p.
-Blazblue has a lot of SP content, KoF 13 appears to have a lot as well, although maybe less. (I hear SF5 is very poor in SP content.)
-Both games have nice character designs and animations, although have different styles and looks.

KoF 13 is the last KoF to use 2d art, which is another reason to get this, as later games will be somewhat different due to this.

At $5 on sale, KoF 13 is hard not to recommend. However, you might have a better time purchasing latest Blazblue or Guilty Gear first, especially if you are new or inexperienced to the fighting genre.

KoFXIII tore me away from Capcom. I realized there are other good fighting games, and it was the key to two decades of SNK gold.

Although my gametime is quite low and I cannot speak for the indepth mechanics of the game as I am somewhat new to fighting but i can say without a doubt this game is enjoyable to say the least. Evan though not preffered you can play decently with a keyboard but the preferred controller would be a gamepad and even better a fightstick.
Buy this game, its cheap and you dont need to be great at fighting games to enjoy it, though it will probably be even more fun if you are good.

This game... is the unholy fu-ckness... I want to believe in that game... I want to believe like Duchovny in X-files... but it's difficult... it's far beyond any hardcore level, i don't even know is it proper to recommend that game... I will speak directly from my view, the view of hardcore fighting games passionate and veteran...

I can't do sh-it in King of fighters XIII :D seriously, i don't recommend it for any cassual player or scr-ub, if you even good in games like blazblue, street fighter IV, or even skullgirls and games alike, don't even try to pick kof XIII unless you are extremely pure vegetable cause it will eat you alive or bury you alive... If you new to fighting games, don't start with KOF... This game is so hard that you faster own an island instead of barely learning one character on medium level... It's just sick, the philosophy and game system can drive crazy and put your mind in a slices... it's so insane that it requires canceling the cancels from moves that were already canceled 50 hits before after you even realized that you'll go that far and try to cancel 60th hit ahead so you must make your way with best cancels, boosts... it's madness...! The king of madness XIII, it's KOF the 13th, Jason strikes back, he will hunt you down in kof reality, if you ever thought like street fighter IV is hardcore fighting game you'll soon realize that it was kinder garten level compared to KOF XIII, it's good in many ways and absorbing you, requires practice and dozen expierence and skill in those kind of games, but it's too sick to be for everybody, it's for very very limited group of people that can handle this total insanity, playing anything but kof...

Artistic level is gorgeous in this game, visually it's like very beautiful superior mugen, music is just brilliant, it really makes fights very energetic and it suits perfectly for the game dynamic and art of fighting, something really cool that cannot be missed, if you don't feel good for online games, you can always enjoy great story and many single player modes, it's not pathetic flat single player level like street fghter IV, it's closer to blazblue and mortal kombat, a lot things to do, and great story worth playing through.

Summary, not for everybody, for very limited group of vegetables, but very enjoyable in single player, great ost, probably hardest fighting game ever made, if not, it's hardest fighting game ever available on pc, this much for sure, not recommend for beginners in fighting games, requires a lot of patience and practice, did I mentioned this game is the unholy fu-ckness? Yeah, i did that...

9/10, because of that glory satisfaction of winning and performing any combo in battle wich is very triumphal feeling. And that music doing everything! BGM best in fighting games history.

Polecam!
