Dead Island: Epidemic
Dead Island: Epidemic was released on 20th November, 2014 by Stunlock Studios and Deep Silver on Steam while beta. At the time this review was released, Dead Island: Epidemic was free to play on Steam. It's currently only on English, but the Russian language was recently added, which can be accessed by selecting the Russian version of the game in the Steam settings.
The gameplay is well-designed and gives the player many ways to play. The game currently has 24 different characters to play with. It sadly possesses only a small amount of gamemodes, Starter missions, Crossroads and Scavengermode. The Horde mode was replaced with Crossroads, because many people disliked the same gameplay.
Starter missions are played with one player, so players can easily understand the gameplay, which is introduced in four different maps.
The rewards for playing starter missions are very low and not recommended for long playing. The maps are easy to play and they also are references to maps of the deleted Horde gamemode.
Crossroads possesses many different tasks each time played. Those depend on the difficulties, which need to be unlocked.
There are 5 different difficulties from Normal to Endemic, which increase the difficulty.
Crossroads is played with 4 players.
The rewards depend on the supplies gathered and the supply amount depends on the stars of three missions a match. Failed missions are punished with no or only a small amount of supplies, but the regular reward-amounts are normal.
Crossroads took place of Horde mode after many players gave their opinions.
Scavenger is played with three teams, orange, blue and green. Each team contains 4 players, so Scavenger has the maximum player-amount of 12 players.
Players have to gather supplies quicklier than the others by conquering as many supply points as possible, while the others do the same.
Supply bosses randomly spawn alongside with many special infected and regular infected on specific spots on each map.
Progresses are showed in the HUD.
There are three different extra tasks (first through barricades, first reach supply goal, first reach final supply goal).
The rewards depend on the supplies gathered and mostly the winning place (1st, 2nd, 3rd). The rewards are usually high.
Each character from 24 has their own skills, their own pros and cons and their recently added voice. Characters, who have other versions of themselves do however have the same main lines and voice-actors for example Isys and Armored Isys.
Each day, daily PvE (Player vs Enemy) and PvP (Player vs Player) rewards can be received. You only need to finish a match in PvE to get the small reward. In PvP however you need to finish a match while winning (1st place).
To avoid being stuck, the "concede" command is accessable by pressing the option in the menu. It starts a vote and yes votes have to overweigh no-votes in order to end the match immediately and get a drammatic small reward-amount. The daily reward however gets added.
Leaving a match without voting is punished with 10 minutes kicked from matchmaking. You can close the game, while the kicking duration goes on.
In Dead Island: Epidemic are account-levels, which allow players to receive bonuses depending on the level. Account-levels can be increased by playing.
Playing in a lobby gives players small amounts of bonus rewards. It also is a good way to decrease the matchmaking-duration, which is a current problem in the game. The amount of players in parties doesn't change the rewards' amounts.
The community is currently most in English. The community also is currently nice and helpful (helping others).
I sadly cannot put everything of the gameplay in this review, because the reviews possess a letter maximum. There's much, which waits to be experienced by you.
