  • Playable on PC, Mac OSX, and Linux with multiplayer cross-compatibility.
  • Dedicated Server Support for PC and Linux.

Multiplayer Game Modes:

Push --- Three territorial objectives must be captured by the attacking team in sequential order. For each objective captured, they gain more reinforcement and time to attack the next. Defenders have a finite amount of reinforcements and must use each wisely. Once the third objective is captured by the attackers, a fourth cache objective must be destroyed, while the defenders have only one life to make a last stand.

Firefight --- Three territorial objectives, one for each team, plus one neutral. Each team only respawns when they secure an objective. Secure all objectives or eliminate all enemy to win. Every life counts, making this a very suspenseful experience dependent upon teamwork.

Skirmish --- In addition to three territorial objectives, each team has a supply cache to protect. Teams gain extra reinforcement waves until their cache is destroyed. When both teams have lost their caches and all reinforcement waves, it becomes a Firefight match.

Occupy --- There is one central territorial objective in the area. The team that controls it does not deplete reinforcement waves. This gameplay in this mode is reminiscent to King of the Hill or "tug of war".

Ambush --- A high value target ("HVT") must be escorted to an extraction point. It's one team's goal to make this happen and it's the other team's goal to stop this from happening at all costs. The HVT is only armed with a silenced pistol, but can pick up a weapon from a fallen enemy or teammate.

Strike --- Three weapon caches must be destroyed by the attacking team to achieve victory. Destroying a cache earns the attackers more reinforcements and time on the clock. The defenders must retain at least one cache from being destroyed and eliminate the enemy team once their reinforcements run dry.

Infiltrate --- The standard Capture the Flag mode, but with a twist. Your team's goal is to take the enemy's intel and return it to your base. Your team will only gain reinforcements when someone takes the enemy's intel, or when an enemy stealing your team's intel is neutralized. This mode requires very strong team coordination and strategy.

Flashpoint --- One neutral territorial objective and two caches on each side. The goal is to secure the entire area, controlling the middle and destroying the enemy's caches. Your team respawns when they secure the territorial objective or destroy a cache objective.

Elimination --- In this single life mode, attackers must destroy one of two weapon caches, or eliminate the enemy team within the time limit. Defenders must kill all attackers.

Cooperative Game Modes

Checkpoint --- Complete mission-based objectives in sequence against AI enemy. Each successful objective will respawn anyone who was eliminated along the way.

Hunt --- Insurgents are dispersed in the environment, and your squad must eliminate all targets while locating and destroying the weapons cache. High on tension, with only one-life.

Survival --- Play as Insurgents and fight against endless waves of progressively difficult Security enemies on night themed maps. Reaching safehouse objectives with your team earns you supply to purchase better weapons and spawns any dead teammates.

Outpost --- Defend your supply cache against endless waves of enemy trying to destroy it. Each successfully defended wave will bring in reinforcements of your teammates.

Conquer --- Capture the objectives in the area and defend them from enemy trying to retake them. Destroy enemy weapon caches to thin out their numbers.

This game is not for the impatient or the twitch shooters who like mindlessly running and gunning down whatever moves near their randomized spawn. Skill is not the be all, end all of this game. It plays a large role but ultimately boils down to: The smarter team ALWAYS wins.

If you like first person shooters that are challenging, i recommend this game. It will make you an extremely efficient player in other fps shooters if you invest some time into it. With 1 or 2 bullets killing you, it forces you to really learn the maps for camping spots and how to properly use cover/concealment. Also, players learn your strategy from the previous rounds so you have to be adaptable and unpredictable. The developers put an emphasis on teamwork and it shows. The scoring system is based more on playing the objectives and less on the k:d. It is also extremely rewarding if you win after a long round with evenly matched teams.

The workshop is one of the reasons why I really enjoy this game. It is completely customizeable. You can change the weapons, optics, reticles, scope reflection colors, gun sounds, player skins, music, and even environmental details just by hitting a subscribe button (for free). The community is also amazing. You have a ton of players making quality mods including the developers themselves posting weapons. You know it will be top notch.

If pvp isn't your thing, there is a coop setting with many fun game modes where you play against bots. There are even many custom servers.

As for how the game runs, it is very smooth. Even if you have a lower end rig, there is very little compromise and still looks friggin awesome. There are, however, minor bugs here and there and sometimes crashes happen but it is still a solid game.

One thing I noticed is that the developers did their homework with the guns and are very detail oriented. You can see smoke trailing off the end of the barrel after shooting for extended periods. Blood splatter patterns of your teammates can indicate the direction of the shooter. Each mag contains the correct number of rounds after you reload (no fairies sitting in your pockets recombining your ammo in this game). The suppression is so intense that it scares the crap out of you the first time you pick this up. Changes in tone can tell you what type of grenade was thrown. And the audio direction cues are spot on. You can pinpoint exactly where someone is sneaking up on you, based on the footsteps or gun sounds. I've noticed a lot of fps shooters have sounds indicating the general direction of players and then you have to search a little to see the enemies. In this game, you hear them, you shoot them.

1) Crashing to desktop can be a major buzzkill
2) Some custom servers override your mods and can cause conflict making parts of the gun invisible until restart
3) Spawn camping (until you learn to avoid certain areas altogether, it's not fun)
4) You will probably suck for a loong time in this game in the beginning
5) This game is hardcore so there is no crosshair (ever) or kill indicators on some of the servers. So if you're used to having them, you're gonna have a bad time...
6) Teamkillling and spam kickers can get out of hand very fast and ruin the experience sometimes.
7) Your character can be pretty stupid. When you are trying to be sneaky behind the enemies and a teammate happens to die within your line of sight, your guy might yell out, "♥♥♥♥ THEY TOOK OUT OUR SQUAD LEADER!!" getting you completely massacred. Can't tell you how many times I've died from the stupidity of my character announcing my presence.

Still a great game though and I highly recommend it if you have the grit to take it on. (I have some friends who refuse to play this game because it was too hard for them. Especially on the sniper heavy pvp maps)

Insurgency is a nice tactical action game and feels like a combination of Rainbow Six 3 and Delta Force Black Hawk Down.
I only played the coop part of the game until yet to get familiar to the maps and it is a very fun game.
8 player squad conquering, destroying objectives, fighting, defending, very good designed maps, this game is like wine, it got really good by time.

The M16A4 assault rifle
Great Graphics
Many People online (about 2.500)
All maps are playable coop and versus

No cooperative campaign like in the SWAT series
Not so many different weapons

Rating 9/10

In comparison to another famous tactical terrorist-vs-counter-terrorists shooter...

Insurgency has...
-MUCH more tactical gameplay
-Community ten times better, with people that actually want to win the game
-No Harambe, ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥, the Illuminati and other "dank" memes
-No crap skins, traders, scammers, and people inspecting their knife to look cool.
-Interesting game modes that take a bit of thought to understand.
-Mic spammers? Occasionally, but you can only hear them when they're up close, which is great.
-The Sterling Submachine gun. I mean c'mon. How can you not buy a game with the Sterling?

Overall, Insurgency is an amazing game, and is a breath of life in comparison to other mil-shooters of today. And, it is amazingly cheap for its quality.

Great game, and I'm looking forward to buying Day of Infamy.

when i first played this i felt like its two games mashed together, Battlefield and CSGO, though its not bad, what i mean is the gamemodes remind me of CS in some ways but ofcourse its not the exact same as it, just similar, this also ties into the bf part aswell, like the mode where you capture flags reminds of rush in bf3 same goes for the attachments but here the attachments are FARRRR Better than BF can ever hope to dream of, i get BF Is going WW1 soon but this games attachment are very similar to bf3, but in many ways better, same for the gamemodes, if you like battlefield and cs then try this out, hell even if you like FPS games in general, and by no means am i trashing this or anything, i've only played a bit but i love it, fits my tastes perfectly :DD

(thx to Capitalism for gifting me this aswell :D)

Insurgency is the number one tactical FPS that is avaiable to both those looking to play serious games (like ARMA) and to those looking to just run around and have fun (say, Battlefield-ish).

Obviously the game strikes a rather big middle ground. The game takes itself serious - and that is a good thing - and has gritty realism that is not suited for everyone. If you get shot once, you will die in most cases. At the same time the game does not make you feel like you _lost_ even when you die. It's satisfying to watch your teammates play in most of the game modes (I suggest Ambush! I love the gamemode, even when I'm dead. I can enjoy myself, laughing at my teammates and the VIP with other dead teammates.)

Dying feels more like 'oh ♥♥♥♥, I made a mistake' rather than '♥♥♥♥ING HAX! I AM GONNA REPORT YOU!' which is rare in most competitive FPS games.

The game runs well, even on my laptop, and I'm sure it's better for those with desktops. The large amount of mods available make the game fun to play, and the guns can be turned into pretty much anything.

Also there's anime girls available for those that want it. It changes the graffiti around the maps to anime girls.

On to the bad sides:

The game still frequently deals with hackers. It's not every match, it's not even once every week, but there's definitely a lot of hacks and they don't seem to get banned. Either that or the detection system is ♥♥♥♥. Mostly it'll rely on the enemy team realizing, and kicking, but more often than not you have to complain for multiple games in a row before they do that.

The game can be frustrating at times. The inventory system is a bit unclear at times but easy enough to understand, but besides that frustration, I also frequently struggle with boredom after 1-2 rounds if I am not playing a high action, fast paced game. For some of the longer modes, the maps feel too big.

The map variety is also decent, but should be bigger. You can play some of the maps once before you know all the spots, and some of the maps you can play 10x and not know all the spots. Sadly for some maps it's impossible to know all spots because the game, like Battlefield, forces you to stay in a certain area. I would understand if it was just around the enemy spawn, but it often is like half the map.

However I definitely encourage you to buy this game. It's great!

looking for something thats realistic like squad,or arma but dont want the large learning curve and intricate controls, look no further especially for the price this game delivers awesome medium map sizes found in most fps and the controls are all familier but the damage realism is where this game thrives it is a very fun and realistic fire fight with your friends and if you play offline it is just as fun and real with the ai bots. 5/5 one of the best realistic military shooters with the easiest learning curve

This game is not for the casual player. Not by a longshot. This is for those who are already familiar with semi-tactical games like Battlefield and want to take a step up, or for those who are tired of camping sims like Arma and want to take a step down. Either way, it's unforgiving, and it's beautiful.

In fact, at one point during a co-op match, watching someone else play because I was dead for the umpteenth time, I found myself strangely identifying with one particular corpse. I don't know why this specific dead terrorist resonated with me, but they did. And then I realized the connection: We were both riddled with bullets by two guys simultaneously.

10/10 would tapfire merrily to my death again.

This is a great game, just many problems. First of all, every lobby is full of spawn camping 10 year olds that only know one food: their microphone.

I really wish I could like this game, but I just don't.

A very good game for people that want that realistic gameplay. It is going to be so frustrating when you first jump in to the game because map knowledge is the most important thing that going to help you to lead the score. Another thing that I liked about this game is how long it takes to ADS every gun, LMG going to take longer time to ADS than what it takes with an aku or a mp5k because LMGs are heavier.

I liked the community as well, here in Insurgency you feel like you are playing a real military shooter with real squad leaders that give you orders and want you to push into the objective. The workshop is some thing that is really nice to see because you can get whatever skin you want without paying that much money like I did back in Battlefield games.

After many hours of playing this game, I have had an immense amount of fun. The game requires actual teamwork and strategy to win. Rushing like in COD won't work at all. Some of the maps are harder than others, but if you work together, you can win. I highly recommend this game.
