Insurgency update changelist May 26, 2016

We have released an update that includes a new map and numerous features, fixes and improvements. The new map is called Dry Canal, originally created by community member Tribly and a finalist in our Gamebanana level design contest last year.



We are also releasing the foundation for our competitive ranking system. The system is not fully functional yet, but the game now loads the web-based system that will evolve into the competitive component. We can begin to update our competitive and stats systems without requiring a game update.

We know our competitive community are anxiously awaiting the competitive matchmaking features, and we appreciate everyone’s patience. You can expect to see ingame progress in the near future, and if you want a preview of our competitive features, we will be creating a Competitive Testing group on Steam which will give you early access to features before they are introduced to everyone else. We will use this group to test the systems on a smaller base of users and solicit feedback.

In addition to the update to Insurgency, the Day of Infamy mod has also been updated on Workshop. Five new community-made maps have been added to the official map rotation for the mod, and some new content has also been added including a new weapon and new weapon assets. Important note regarding custom player models: Because of animation changes made in this patch, any Workshop custom player models now will cause the game to crash because they do not have the correct IK settings compiled.   • Workshop servers will now correctly query for map updates between games.
  • Spawn points and spawn zone entities can now be assigned a squad ID, allowing mappers to create squad specific spawn areas.
  • Theaters:
    • Added mutual exclusion to weapon upgrades. This can be used to exclude any two upgrades from being equipped simultaneously that are in different upgrade slots. Under a weapon upgrade add “excluded_upgrades”, with an arbitrary key and a value set to the name of the upgrade to exclude. The exclusion should be defined on the latter of the pair in the theater file.
    • Added “overlay” setting to gear definitions.
    • Added the “third_person” subsection to weapon definitions.
  • Replaced c_thirdpersonshoulder with sv_thirdperson and all the associated settings.
Capa Mode (beta)

Introducing new features to the roaming spectator mode, currently controlled using Console Variables. The name "Capa" is an homage to one of the greatest war photographers, Robert Capa, who co-founded Magnum Photos following the Second World War. His images of Omaha Beach on D-Day are iconic. Sadly, he was killed by a mine in Indochina in 1954. Capa had a famous saying: "If your photographs aren't good enough, you're not close enough," and this feature will help you get closer to the action while spectating.
  • spec_camera_options_gui 1, displays UI to adjust f-stop, focal length, and focal distance
  • spec_bank 1, enables camera banking
    • spec_bank_angle <-180...180>, Maximum camera banking/roll angle
    • spec_bank_smoothing <0..1>, Banking interpolation amount (higher = slower)
  • spec_handheld <0...n>, enables handheld camera feature that moves the camera around as if it were held by a camera operator

Multiplayer Game Modes:


Push --- Three territorial objectives must be captured by the attacking team in sequential order. For each objective captured, they gain more reinforcement and time to attack the next. Defenders have a finite amount of reinforcements and must use each wisely. Once the third objective is captured by the attackers, a fourth cache objective must be destroyed, while the defenders have only one life to make a last stand.

Firefight --- Three territorial objectives, one for each team, plus one neutral. Each team only respawns when they secure an objective. Secure all objectives or eliminate all enemy to win. Every life counts, making this a very suspenseful experience dependent upon teamwork.

Skirmish --- In addition to three territorial objectives, each team has a supply cache to protect. Teams gain extra reinforcement waves until their cache is destroyed. When both teams have lost their caches and all reinforcement waves, it becomes a Firefight match.

Occupy --- There is one central territorial objective in the area. The team that controls it does not deplete reinforcement waves. This gameplay in this mode is reminiscent to King of the Hill or "tug of war".

Ambush --- A high value target ("HVT") must be escorted to an extraction point. It's one team's goal to make this happen and it's the other team's goal to stop this from happening at all costs. The HVT is only armed with a silenced pistol, but can pick up a weapon from a fallen enemy or teammate.

Strike --- Three weapon caches must be destroyed by the attacking team to achieve victory. Destroying a cache earns the attackers more reinforcements and time on the clock. The defenders must retain at least one cache from being destroyed and eliminate the enemy team once their reinforcements run dry.

Infiltrate --- The standard Capture the Flag mode, but with a twist. Your team's goal is to take the enemy's intel and return it to your base. Your team will only gain reinforcements when someone takes the enemy's intel, or when an enemy stealing your team's intel is neutralized. This mode requires very strong team coordination and strategy.

Flashpoint --- One neutral territorial objective and two caches on each side. The goal is to secure the entire area, controlling the middle and destroying the enemy's caches. Your team respawns when they secure the territorial objective or destroy a cache objective.

Elimination --- In this single life mode, attackers must destroy one of two weapon caches, or eliminate the enemy team within the time limit. Defenders must kill all attackers.

Cooperative Game Modes


Checkpoint --- Complete mission-based objectives in sequence against AI enemy. Each successful objective will respawn anyone who was eliminated along the way.

Hunt --- Insurgents are dispersed in the environment, and your squad must eliminate all targets while locating and destroying the weapons cache. High on tension, with only one-life.

Survival --- Play as Insurgents and fight against endless waves of progressively difficult Security enemies on night themed maps. Reaching safehouse objectives with your team earns you supply to purchase better weapons and spawns any dead teammates.

Outpost --- Defend your supply cache against endless waves of enemy trying to destroy it. Each successfully defended wave will bring in reinforcements of your teammates.

Conquer --- Capture the objectives in the area and defend them from enemy trying to retake them. Destroy enemy weapon caches to thin out their numbers.

This game feels like a mix of the orignal Rainbow Six trilogy and Red Orchestra. Its more of an arcade shooter than a simulation, but still keeps various simulation aspects. Its got leaning, 3 standing types, realistic character health (one well placed bullet can take anyone down. armor location is important), character stamina, and so forth. Guns sound amazing, I just wish some of the voice work was better as it sounds like the same couple of people (not a big deal). Weapon models are very well detailed and work with different FOV settings. Character models, maps terrain, and other props are extremly basic and tend to either look extremly good or VERY ugly (think Left 4 Dead 2 vs Half-Life 2 Deathmatch quality). Luckily, the gameplay is satisfying and fun! Team voice communication is radius-based (with the exception of officers and text-chat) and the enemy team is able to hear you if you are close enough. Anything else is either nothing of note and/or prettyforward.

tl:dr its fun and cheap. worth the money

Great game, would recommend to anyone interest in an immersive fps experience.
No cross hair
No ammo counter (+ammo does not just magically appear in your pockets when you throw away mags (like in cs go) if you throw away a mag you lose all the ammo in it)
No minimap (you can bring up a larger map)

I was interested in this game a lot because CSGO is just a decade old piece of ♥♥♥♥ game full of hackers and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ community and I was looking for an alternative for it. It went for sale yesterday and instantly bought 4-pack to enjoy this game with friends.
As I started the game, the UI was awful. I started training mission and completed it. Then I started online and was disappointed. Only good thing about this game is its sound. That's all!
Now the cons: No cross-hairs, confusing weapon inventory, difficult to differentiate between allies and enemies. Then I started a solo mission, the graphics are good but it needs to be optimized a lot. Too much information everywhere. The game was laggy with low FPS.
It was launched in 2014, the game feels like incomplete and un-finished. Not worth your time and money. Better go for Rainbow Six: Siege.

First 5 hours was great, loved the combat, the realness, the everything. However, after playing for an extended period of time, you realise all the ♥♥♥♥ed up stupid ♥♥♥♥ that happens. eg. walk out of spawn for couple seconds and instantly get killed, absolute insanly stupid recoil and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ weapon choices for insurgents. (esp the horrendously inaccurate mosin when standing up or crouching.) Would give a positive review, but the amount of absolute aids in this game makes it frustrating, rage inducing and unplayable.

Such an underrated shooter, mixes tactical elements flawlessly. Not too realistic (like Arma), but just realistic enough where you don't have to unload more than a few shots into an enemy (or friend...).

A real dose of action in this one.
Great standalone version for one of the best Source Mods.

Pros:

- Astounding sound effects.

So i will be honest! I bought this game 5 months ago.
after i played a few games, i quit, and i contacted steam to get my money back!

this game is what everyone should call, a war simulator!

After got boring played CSGO and bf4 and ♥♥♥♥, i redownloaded INSURGENCY.
I had to give it more time! And i did!

Amazing sound, amazing gun models, amazing gun customization, amazing gameplay,
REAL gameplay! When you run, u cant aim, u cant reload, u cant strafe properly!
U have to be quiet, quick and precise! If you want to survive! One bullet and you are dead!
I was waiting so much for a game like this!

I love this game, and maybe its my favourite fps game ever!
Last night it was the first time i had a dream about being in a game, and insurgency made me dream of it!

Buy it, and give it some time to get used to it!

Insurgency: An indie team of gamers turned modders turned developers. Everything about this game was done right. From the attention/engagement with the community to the sales that basically give this game away for free, which in turns invites more gamers, modders, and FREE content for the game from both the community and developers.

I got the game for free from a friend and what attracted me the most was the modding support and the open modding community. This allowed me to jump right into modding my own server out immediately. Under 2 years later, I host the most popular coop servers in the game with a continuously growing 700+ member community.

Bottom Line
If you enjoy immersive PvP and or Coop with tons of different servers, mods, and content. You'll enjoy Insurgency.

Pro:
Games is stable,
Update regular by the developer,
Really fluid,
Realistic,
One of the only game where semi-automatic can work better than automatic,
The feels when you kill 3 or more enemy with semi-automatic gun in succession,
No health ragen
Cons:
Realism can be stressing, nade and at4 can kill you easily

I have never felt so antagonised, insulted and absolutely useless in a games Tutorial or 'Training' as Insurgency puts it.
10/10 would be shouted at by angry American again.

Most realistic and fun indie shooter I've played. Less bulky than ARMA but not as realistic. More realistic and thoughtful than Battlefield 3/4 but not as cool-arcadey.

Fun game if you're into realistic warfare game

They support visual mods

My game turned from serious war place to insurgents supporting hatsune miku and anime graffitis everywhere

If you're insurgent , 11/10 your teammate would scream allahu akbar whenever he/she throws a nade

This game is one of the best tactical shooters currently on the market and it's not even expensive.

The game has everything a modern shooter needs to have and if you don't like the modern setting download the WW2 mod Day of Infamy and enjoy.

Only downside to all of this is the fact the game is built on source engine and thus hitreg sucks on some servers.

Product received for free
This is a great game, he is different from Battlefield and Call of Duty, but the playability is still not inferior to the former, you can work together with the mission or a multiplayer game with friends, but a bit difficult to operate, great quality.10/10

I'll make this quick and short.

Pros:
- Great game mechanics
- Good graphics
- Good Audio
- Growing Community
- Non of that rank up non-sense to get better guns
- Balanced teams
- Good maps
- Good pacing

Cons
- Game engine needs a bit of work so lower end computes can get great framerates, then again im comparing this engine to the source engine so that a pretty high bar. For short im just nit picking here.

For Short...Buy this game!!!! Make this community grow!
