About This Game

Take to the streets for intense close quarters combat, where a team's survival depends upon securing crucial strongholds and destroying enemy supply in this multiplayer and cooperative Source Engine based experience. The follow-up game to the award-winning Source mod, Insurgency is highly competitive and unforgivingly lethal, striking a balance between one-life gameplay and prolonged action.

Features

  • Cooperative game modes where you and your friends team up to complete mission-based objectives.
  • Offline practice mode, playing with bots on all game modes.
  • Squad system built upon role-based player classes, which are customizable and asymmetrical based on what team you are on.
  • Squad-based communication system which includes 3D VOIP, allowing friendly and enemy players within proximity to hear you.
  • Overhead map detailing objective and teammate locations.

  • Create custom maps and content using the Insurgency SDK and scripting system.
  • Playable on both PC and Mac OSX and supports multiplayer cross-compatibility.
  • Dedicated Server Support for PC and Linux.

Multiplayer Game Modes:

Push --- Three territorial objectives must be captured by the attacking team in sequential order. For each objective captured, they gain more reinforcement and time to attack the next. Defenders have a finite amount of reinforcements and must use each wisely. Once the third objective is captured by the attackers, a fourth cache objective must be destroyed, while the defenders have only one life to make a last stand.

Firefight --- Three territorial objectives, one for each team, plus one neutral. Each team only respawns when they secure an objective. Secure all objectives or eliminate all enemy to win. Every life counts, making this a very suspenseful experience dependent upon teamwork.

Skirmish --- In addition to three territorial objectives, each team has a supply cache to protect. Teams gain extra reinforcement waves until their cache is destroyed. When both teams have lost their caches and all reinforcement waves, it becomes a Firefight match.

Occupy --- There is one central territorial objective in the area. The team that controls it does not deplete reinforcement waves. This gameplay in this mode is reminiscent to King of the Hill or "tug of war".

Ambush --- A high value target ("HVT") must be escorted to an extraction point. It's one team's goal to make this happen and it's the other team's goal to stop this from happening at all costs. The HVT is only armed with a silenced pistol, but can pick up a weapon from a fallen enemy or teammate.

Strike --- In this attack and defend mode a weapon cache must be discovered and destroyed. There are three potential locations for the cache that the attacking team must get eyes on. The defending team must set up a strong defense, and perhaps even make use of a diversion to fool the attacking team into thinking the cache is somewhere that it's not.

Infiltrate --- The standard Capture the Flag mode, but with a twist. Your team's goal is to take the enemy's intel and return it to your base. Your team will only gain reinforcements when someone takes the enemy's intel, or when an enemy stealing your team's intel is neutralized. This mode requires very strong team coordination and strategy.

Flashpoint --- One neutral territorial objective and two caches on each side. The goal is to secure the entire area, controlling the middle and destroying the enemy's caches. Your team respawns when they secure the territorial objective or destroy a cache objective.

Cooperative Game Modes

Checkpoint --- Complete mission-based objectives in sequence against AI enemy. Each successful objective will respawn anyone who was eliminated along the way.

Hunt --- Insurgents are dispersed in the environment, and your squad must eliminate all targets while locating and destroying the weapons cache. High on tension, with only one-life.

Pure and Simple not much gimmick just straight up gun on gun. This doesn't try to hard to be the best shooters yet is succeds in it's simplicity. You have a few weapons for each class and few gadegets so not much there, almost any weapon kills one to two shot in the upper body so mistakes are paid for dearly. The maps are pretty large bigger than your average cod map and some are close to them , it also supports more players I believe 24. The weapons have heavy recoil so single fire is adviced or controlled burst is a must. The game focuses on objective gameplay and teamwork pays off comminication helps tons. My only gripe is with the rpg launcher it just feels cheap and overpowered other than that the game is fun and very intense since hardcore mode is always on, no hipfie crossjhair no health bar so no crutches. This is an awesome game although it will not fit the bill for all, think Arma meets COD in a way but closer to the first! this is a must play for any fps fan.

This is hands down the BEST first person shooter I have ever played when it comes to realistic warfare.

Are you used to running about the map and spraying down enemies in your favorite FPS? Good luck with that in Insurgency.

If you ARE peeking around every corner, moving as quietly as possible, aiming down your sights trying to see just WHERE THE HELL THOSE BULLETS ARE COMING FROM, then theres still a fantastic chance that youll be shot from an unknown location, ending your short, short life.

In most cases, one bullet to anywhere above the waist will put you six feet under, and even if they DO miss that first shot, the suppression effect will make your vison so blurry, youd think that you WERE dead. And then you wouldnt think at all. Because youd be dead.

This game is what EA wishes It's battlefield series was.

I rate this game 9/10. The gameplay is head and shoulders above any other game in the FPS genre. There are a few prevalent bugs that could be fixed, but they are very minor.

The only REAL problem with this game is that there isnt enough people playing it.

Insurgency is the thinking man's FPS. The bullet ballistics are A+ and the constant presence of danger around ever corner really puts urgent feeling into the gameplay, regardless of what type of game mode you are in. Unlike shooters like Counterstrike, Insurgency excels not only in it's multiplayer PvP, but in it's co-op game modes like Hunt and Checkpoint, where players either have to eliminate the enemy AI situated throughout the map, or proceed forward and capture points to progress. The AI in these modes are ruthless and cunning, and overcoming them requires real teamwork and communication.

Insurgency also has an implemented Steam Workshop support, and the modding community has a plethora of available weapon skins, maps, and other downloads to help keep the game fresh. While the game has a varied and wide selection of weapons available, I hope in future patches and updates they add extras, but that hardly takes away from the game experience.

This is an awesomes stuff! Amazing atmosphere and really one of the best games to play as a team. Good graphics, realisic movments and amazing sound effects make you feel like you are really on a battlefield! Plus, developpers are always developping this game improving level design and polishing other glitches. Community is also much better than in other more popular games. This is just great....

ok a few pros and cons of this game as of 9/24/2014

I do not want to go fully in depth with this review as i may bore some people. so i tried to highlight what hooked me.

I am a prior Marine (to those keyboard warriors who think that hardcore mode on COD is the most realistic shooter)

----the two first things i noticed about this is the realistic scopes/sights... where you can keep peripheral while still aiming downrange and OMG THE SOUND, its amazing, the snaps, and whizzes, etc. knowing when someone is shooting past you, at you, or at your buddy is extremely immersive. suppressing a whole building while working as a squad can definitely happen just by the famous die, mother$$$$$$$, die bursts. why? not because they see tracers, they dont. not because they see puffs of dirt exploding around them, they might not. because they can hear your rounds hitting the wall behind them or the ground outside the door... they usually panic just from the sound

its not easy to aim a grenade through the window, if anyone here has thrown a grenade, its not easy when you are under stess, also the kill radius and shrapnel chances are rare in games period. when you throw a grenade, you best take cover cause, i have seen grenades kill their owners who are standing twice as far away as the person they threw it at, they got hit in a vital area by shrapnel while the enemy was able to shake it off even though they were closer.

the mags keep the amount that you left it with... meaning if you shoot all but one round in a mag and dont realize it and get to that mag, well... lol this is why you make every shot count, whether its strategically suppressing and advancing in the pie or whatever but you better reload at the right time and keep track of your mags

-------- there are a few things i would like improved

needs maps with more foliage, if not that, then larger

not hard to see silhouettes (majority of the time). im not saying its easy to see someone, but its not challenging enough. idk how games like Heroes and Generals does it with inferior graphics but within it you can somtimes be looking right at someone thinking it could be an enemy but maybe not, and not want to give away your position by shooting. insurgency, well, it leaves something lacking in that aspect, its hard to explain without video. something i have always been looking for since early ghost recons

no injuries or support roles in the sense of direct support, such as medics. i would like to see ARMA-like medics... not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ defib instant revive crap

------- it walks a very thin line between hardcore and casual extremely well which is extremely hard to do. its not ARMA/EVE like and its definitely not COD like... its like getting a cup of coffee. many variables, type of cup, how hot the coffee is, how weak it is. sometimes its too cold, sometimes its so hot you only get one sip in within the 20 minutes before you have to work and you still burnt your tongue, and sometimes you can just blow on it for a few seconds and chug it because its just right.

this game is just right. however it could use some more flavors

----honestly, the first shooter i have truly enjoyed and felt excited and challenged since the mid/early 2000s... completely worth the money

----if you expect to only play a few hours or expect hundreds of hours, i am confident in saying that you will not regret having played this game just so you could reference off of the "just right" feel of this for all future shooters.

Insurgency is a Tactical First Person Shooter game. This game requires a specfic set of skill that you don't see in other FPS games often. Note, Insurgency is nothing like Call of Duty or Battlefield. ♥♥♥♥ happens in this game. This game gets you on edge, since you can die at any moment. Hitboxes are very well executed. A headshot to your player is an automatic kill. You need ot be careful before advancing anywhere; lean around the corners, flash rooms... Lay smoke for cover. You can buy gear and attachments for weapons with supply points, which varies from every class, from Support to Sniper.. Demolitionist. A few classes have certain weapons, not available for purchase on any other class, so pick what you need. The game and your experience also varies on what gear you take, from weapons to armor. Heavy weapons like a Rocket Launcher or an LMG are very heavy, as well as armor. You can choose to carry light, heavy, or no armor at all. If you want to be quick and swift, go for a small loadout. If you want to be precise, attach a laser sight, which increases accuracy. Adjust firing rate on certain weapons, to your style. Even if you go rushing in with heavy armor and an LMG, you're still extremely vulnerable. You can't just spray down hordes of enemies, you have to control your bursts. If you just hold down left click, your bullets will go everywhere. At least try to somewhat control where your bullets are going. Always remember to rely and work with your team mates. Take what you need, and form a plan. Teamwork is essential to this Insurgency; remember that.

Well, that was... that. That was basic, overview of the game's mechanics, now onto the review. Insurgency is a great game, if you're looking for a tactical recon-like military shooter. The mechanics, and the look and the feel of Insurgency is fantastic. Insurgency also does well with an array of video options to optimize your experience. This game can relate to a lot of different people and play styles, as well. In short, Insurgency is fantastic, defenitely worth a buy.

10/10 Hope this review helped.

Insurgency is easily one of the best Tactical Multiplayer FPS's I have ever played.

The realistic and unforgiving combat immerses you into the most gritty and adrenaline fueled combat situations you could ever get into in a game, brought to you by New World Interactive.

There are two teams to a map: Security and Insurgents. Security uses mostly military grade weapons (M16's, mk18's... anything you would expect to see the American army use), while Insurgents use mostly old Russian weaponry (AKM's, SKS's and FAL's). Each team has two squads, each with 8 roles to pick. The point system in the game balances out the amount of attachments and armor you can pick, giving you the choice to either deck out your gun with fore-grips and weapon sights and run un-armored, or armor yourself up and give yourself extra ammo with no optics or attachments on your gun. Most primary weapons are a one shot kill to the torso and head at all ranges which forces you to pick your cover and pathing to the objective carefully.

There are 6 game modes for multiplayer: Skirmish, Push, Firefight, Ambush, Occupy and Strike. Skirmish and Firefight are objective zone based; go to the objective and occupy it until your team has captured it and eliminate all enemy players until their respawn waves are ceased, capturing an objective gives you a respawn wave. The only difference between Skirmish and Firefight is that Skirmish has an addition 2 objectives which can be destroyed. In Push one team needs to hold back the enemy from capturing the two objectives in each zone until their respawn waves run out. Occupy is the classic King of the Hill, Ambush is a VIP escort mission and in Strike you must destroy the enemies objective while you protect your own. Servers can hold up to 32 players (16 per team) and there is an addition co-op game mode.

Overall Insurgency is a tense, strategic and realistic game, brought to you by a small and intuitive game studio that will give you endless hours of fun.

Pros- Well structured maps that suit every game mode,
Extremely polished weapon models and weapon animations,
Limited Heads Up Display,
Harsh damage model/ Health System.

Cons- Movement animations are a bit "On rails",
and Bullet ballistics are simple and outdated.

Insurgency is honestly some of the best fun I've had in a long time. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a hardcore realisitic modern shooter experience. The game is based upon situations that realisitically simulate warefare, gunfights, capturing and seizing objectives - how you do this is entirely based upon the players, however in this game you will need to work as a team in order to be successful. It is rather realisitic and you can die very quickly, so if you're used to fast paced or standard shooters, this game will challenge you.

I personally find it more fun to play with friends who have the game as you can communicate with them more efficiently and really enjoy yourself. Insurgency offers you a small array of training practice to get you used to the game, how it plays, the weapons, etc and it's important to play through the training part as well as have a couple of practice sessions 'till your firm with the gameplay. The game can be taken rather seriously if one wishes too, but honestly, it's brilliant fun!

The only downside I have with this game is that I wish there could be more gamemodes and tactical equipment (For example tripmines/claymores) Apparantly some features are in the original mod version of the game that didn't make it to the purchasable title, but I understand this is most likely for gameplay purposes!

Other than that, a fantastic game inwhich I personally waste hours of entertainment with!

If you want a game that throws you into a deep hell of one shot kills shots coming from nowhere then this game is for you

It puts you in a hardcore close combat environment you have around (going from my head) 6-10 diffrent game modes. you can play PVP or CO-OP with friends, And when you win you get this happy feeling knowing that you just made it trough a hell hole with your squad. not to mention if you loose a teammate you will have a bigger chance of loosing then winning. It's all pure teamwork all the classes provides help (sadly the support class can't carry an ammo box.) running out of a mag in combat is the worst feeling you can have you eaither die or you are fast enough to pull out you're pistol and empty the clip on the enemy

I give this game a 10/10 it's the best FPS game i have ever played in my life

I haven't been so excited while playing an First Person Shooter in a long time.

This is because unlike others games in the market offering lots of niche features, Insurgency excels because it has fantastic gameplay that is both tactical and intense. Insurgency feels more complex than it actually is thanks to some well thought out map design and modes to boot, in both Player vs. Player and Co-operative modes.

There is never a moment where I have thought the game was unbalanced and that's thanks to the Classes and Supply systems. Squads (usually 2 per team, consisiting of around 8 players) consists of one of each class, with the exception of sometimes 2 Riflemen/Fighters (straight up assault rifles, pistols and grenades), so you won't get a whole team of Sniper classes not playing the objectives or Demolition classes constantly RPG-ing from afar.

Weapons feel lethal as it takes about 1-2 body shots to take someone down (3+ if your lucky, usually when you get shot in the legs) and explosives are capable of eliminating an entire team if everyone bunches up (a hard lesson you will learn in Co-op where an Insurgent sees 2 or more of you and takes you all down with one RPG shot, so don't bunch up!).

To compliment all this is some great sound design and soundtracks. Guns don't sound limp or synthesized, they are realistic and sound like they can do some real damage. The same goes for explosives and bullets pinging off of nearby walls.

This is also one of the best looking games running on the Source engine, looking as good if not better than Counter Strike: Global Offensive especially when it comes to weapon models. Great use of lighting for both day and night time scenarios. Only thing I would fault is the character models, which aren't at all bad but could do with some more work as the textures on them look a little flat.

There is also mod support through the Steam Workshop, which allows you to make new guns skins/animations/sound packs, levels, characters skins/sound packs and so on which is a great bonus. The game is also regularly updated too with bug fixes and free content such as new maps and modes and more.

To summarise: For me, Insurgency gets a lot of things right and I really can't fault it, it's a great package at a great price (I bought it half price on a free weekend, but at full price it's still very much worth it!).

Highly Recommended! Even better with friends!

A cool interesting game that reminds me of counter srike but better with better game mechanics.
Has very cool maps with some very interesting gamemodes and is probably the most realistic multiplayer
shooter out there. With some issues I found but no horrible gam changers that would change my interest with the game.
I would give the game a verdict of 8/10 for a amazing and experience.

I loved this game... I only got to play it for a couple of days seen as it was a "free weekend" and I love fps games. I really was surprised that my computer could run because my computer is definitely not great for gaming but does the job, so if you have a low end pc/laptop you'll be able to run this. Also this is nothing like COD... It's much F***ING harder. You will not get the game and join a match and be the best player... You will DIE like a million times! Anyway, LOVE this game 9/10
