About This Game

2 SIDES, 12 NATIONS, 750 UNITS: THE STRATEGY GAME REFERENCE IS BACK!

Richer, more beautiful and more accessible, Wargame AirLand Battle is the sequel to the explosive real-time strategy game Wargame European Escalation!

1985. After several months of tension between NATO and the Warsaw Pact, an incident in the North Sea suddenly sets the world on fire, starting an all-out war.
Command the entire military resources of the period, and plunge into the heart of a new dynamic campaign! With the arrival of air forces, select from a phenomenal array of 750 units (including tanks, planes, helicopters, and infantry) to build your army. Engage in spectacular battles with unmatched strategic depth, on huge battlefields as large as 150km², powered by a new graphics engine.

Impressive in solo play, Wargame AirLand Battle is even more engaging online. The game features ultra-complete multiplayer modes, where up to 20 players do battle simultaneously!

Welp to start off with the game looks and sounds quite good. Massive battle(well large depending) look good due to the camera placement allowing the player to survey the entire battlefield and get to witness columns of tanks advancing, artillery shelling targets kilometeres away(BM-21 looks extra awsome) and of course jets firing their combat runs. Lots of units to pick from that are interesting to see used in combat and infantry that er........yeah skip them. Now the game does have resource managment of a sort, every unit has finite fuel, ammo etc. and can be re-equipped at an FOB or a handy truck. Now multipayer is good but what falls completely flat is the "campaign" and to an extent the skirmish mode. This can be sort of fixed by playing with friends but is still painful due to AI oddities. They almost never attack so you constantly have to make the first move and can be crushed due to the moral system which dictates how many units you can use from that army and can leave you with say......1/20 of what your opponent can use. To its credit it makes you not waste any units and think more tacically. So to rap it up sort of fun game that is better with people(as most things are) but falls flat on other modes due to AI difficulties i dunno maybe i am just terrible but that has been my experiance.

Realistic, immersive, diverse and simply so much fun.
There are so many ways that you can play this game and so many different kinds of units for you to master in controlling. Playing with or against friends in multiplayer is especially fun, with endless possiblities and intense combat. if you know how to use your units wisely you can destroy your opponents without losing a piece, if you don't you lose everything without killing anything.

Requires time investment in studying units but once you get into it, you will be amazed

If you get this game, be prepared to do a lot of Google searches to figure out how anything works, because there is no in-game help whatsoever. No tutorial (the so-called tutorial is just an easy mission with literally no explanation of anything), no tooltips, not even a list of controls. You have to use Google just to learn the controls! And when you do, you will find that there are some commands that, after 2 years, no one knows what they do. The game is THAT opaque.

PROS: Incredible-looking modern combat simulation. You can zoom from a mile up, viewing the whole battlefield, all the way down to ground level, seeing it from the eyes of the soldiers, which is very useful for determining lines of sight. If you've been looking for a modern successor to Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far or Close Combat 3: The Russian Front, this is it.

CONS: Total disrespect toward new players, not just from other players but from the company itself. If your idea of a challenge is taking hours to figure out something they could have told you in 5 seconds, this game's for you.

Very difficult to learn. Poor usability. Not what the videos were showing by any means, this is a turn based strategy game like risk. bummer.

Best of the 3, but still not worthwhile game.
If this kind of game is your style, this is the best of the bunch.

Airland Battle is very interessing RTS in the way it portraits distance, movement (one of the few games where retreat is a meanigful choice), resources (the way the game use supply for each unit and how you transport more to the frontlines) and small details. It can be overwhelming at first, due this very amount of details and lack of explanation, specially if you aren´t familiar with the military hardware of the period (I confess I know little about, so I do get very confused, but still its amazing game).

Wargame: Airland Battle isn't like your typical RTS and I think that's why I like it. Logistics and reconnaissance are given the attention and respect they deserve since battles aren't just about blowing ♥♥♥♥ up and capturing territory, even if that's the ultimate goal. The only problem is finding like-minded individuals to give the game a crack due to it potentially being seen as too fiddly when compared to its mainstream competitors. Armchair generals should feel straight at home when playing this though and I can't wait to see the next Eugen Systems release after 2014's Wargame: Red Dragon.

I don't know why I'm kind of disappointed in the game, but I am. Maybe it was because I bought it on sale, I don't know.

Extremely well put together game, not to many glitches or bugs, and an AMAZING erray of units to choose from. Much more dynamic display when crafting dects than European Escalation and this game will deffinaely put the strategic side of your gaming to the test.

Yes and also no. Super yes on sale. No to $20 partly due to age and also the tutorial is rubish. This game is super indepth and micro heavy. tutorial doesnt help. But there are steam guides that read like actual military manuals but they explain everything. very trial and error though for learning. and its starting to go from work to super fun. I personally have not gone into a multiplayer game due to knowing that i would be (rightly) flamed for being a noob feeder. But god is it fun. Work though.
What i am really trying to get at is that this isnt a wambam "lol explosions and guns" game. Its a challenge even at its easiest. But its fun once you start to learn.
