About This Content

A mainstay of BR’s locomotive fleet in the 1990s, the Class 90 was a replacement to BR’s ageing fleet of electric locomotives, and is now available for Train Simulator in two liveries that are ideal for the Great Eastern Main Line London-Ipswich route.

In the days of British Rail, many high speed services across the UK rail network were operated by Class 90 electric locomotives, often in ‘push-pull’ formations with a Driving Van Trailer (DVT) and full consist of coaches. Following privatisation of the UK rail network, the fleet was transferred to private operators for both freight and passenger operations.

A total of 50 Class 90s were built by BREL Works in Crewe between 1987 and 1990 and were designed for a top operating speed of 110mph (180 km/h), operating from 25 kV AC overhead power and producing 5,000 bhp (3,700 kW). The models were also fitted with a Time Division Multiplier (TDM) to operate push-pull trains with a DVT, enabling fast turnaround of passenger services and removing the need for the leading locomotive to ‘run round’ its coaching stock.

After privatisation of BR in 1996, half of the Class 90 fleet were transferred to freight traffic, reclassified and modified to operate at a lower speed. The remainder of the fleet was transferred to private operators, including DB Schenker, Virgin Trains and Greater Anglia. The latter company now operates 15 Class 90s on services between London Liverpool Street, Ipswich and Norwich.

The Class 90 for Train Simulator is available in two liveries, blue/white striped and grey/white. Features of the locomotive include advanced and HUD versions, accurate performance physics, prototypical braking system, cold start option, independent guard and driver wipers, LED headlights, a MK3 coach consist and driveable Class 82 Mk3 DVT.

The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the Greater Anglia Class 90 on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the Great Eastern Main Line London-Ipswich route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

Scenarios

Four scenarios for the Great Eastern Main Line London-Ipswich route:
  • 1P21 08:30 Norwich – London Liverpool Street
  • 1P32 13:30 London Liverpool Street - Norwich
  • 1P50 17:30 London Liverpool Street – Norwich

More scenarios are available on Steam Workshop online and in-game. Train Simulator’s Steam Workshop scenarios are free and easy to download, adding many more hours of exciting gameplay. With scenarios being added daily, why don’t you check it out now!

This is an Armstrong Powerhouse addon, that was released under DTG. Highly reccomend this realistic loco, that comes with basic and advanced control methods.

A very nice loco if I do say so myself
Contains both the original Advanced version adapted from the 90 Pack available at Armstrong Powerhouse and also a HUD compatible version which is watered down to comply with DTGs requisites
Scenarios written by AP are included for both so you wont miss out whichever you choose.
If you own GEML you will need this. If you dont own GEML, you should buy this anyway.

Very nice loco. Glad I bought it. However, the ADV variant doesn't want to go anywhere, it doesn't turn on or anything.

If you do buy this pack, I recommend driving the HUD variant most of the time.

Great loco, with plenty of in-cab things to do. Also has a full start up procedure, which can be fun, as you have to set up both ends of the train before driving away. No passenger view from the train, which is a shame.

*Be aware that the scenario's are very heavy on cpu usage due to the amount of AI traffic included in the scenario's, people are reporting the level not working etc, make sure you have HD Space to be able to run this, and have a decent graphics card installed*

The levels themselves are great fun, a lot of rush hour traffic, showing how hard this section of line works during a working week.

Train is also great on QD on other lines.

Is it value for money? Yes, if your computer can handle the load.

This train is one of the best available off steam for the game Train Simulator 2015.
The cab detail is fantastic. Most the the switches, knobs (not the drivers), levers etc are interactable. The start up procedure is one of the most realistic in game.
The sounds are also brilliant - top quality stuff AP Waggonz!
The liveries, they are good and the 2 ones that are used.

So buy it although if you don't have any of the things in the UK Collection then buy the UK Collection.

Felix.

Of all the stock I have in TS, the AP Class 90s/DVTs (both their own full version and this pack) are by far my favourites to drive.

It'll take a few goes to remember the start-up routine on the advanced models, but they are well worth the effort of learning. You'll become a lot more involved in the operation of the train, rather than just opening the throttle and occasionally waving the brake lever around. If that sounds too involved though, then remember that you get automatic speed control, to avoid constant overspeed penalties.

Very much recommended by me.

This Class 90 is a Steam Special of the Armstrong Powerhouse Class 90. I picked the GEML Class 90 for free when I bought the GEML in a sale last year, but if you are interested in buying the Class 90 here, I recommend looking at the Armstrong Powerhouse website as well. They originally developed the Class 90 seen here, and the one here is a slightly less complex version. For an extra $5, I'd recommend the Armstrong Powerhouse. You might not get the scenerios or achievments that this one provides, but you get more bang for your buck. Still though, this is not DTG developed train, so it is much more refined, and includes more features.

The class 90 has since moving out from GEML realms, become quite the common or garden engine because of its versatility in everything from freight, mail and even sleeper trains.

Based on the older class 86/87's, it was a close run thing that this ended up with gradual controls rather than having the tap type controls of its parentage, complete with a very good speed set control, normal and advanced modes of startup, realistic DSD add to the flavour of driving this smooth engine and with additional freeware livery packs available out there makes this a very good loco for your collection.

I bought this in a twin pack with the Ipswich route, it has never worked and always crashes my computer when selected.
Of all the DLC that I've bought this is the very worst, simply because it will not work, endless e-mails to DTG, re-installation and file verification has failed to make this thing function at all, which is sad as I would dearly love to have it in my collection and working.
So, from my perspective, I can not recommend it to anyone.
