购买 Train Simulator: Great Northern F7 'Empire Builder'

关于此内容

This DLC is only available to purchase in the USA.

The hugely popular EMD F7 has hauled some of North America’s most celebrated passenger trains, including Great Northern’s Empire Builder, and is now available in this famous consist and livery for Train Simulator.

Built between February 1949 and December 1952 by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel, the F7 started life as a freight-hauling unit but quickly moved on to haul passenger services for numerous North American railroads. The unit was the fourth in GM-EMD’s line of successful F-unit locomotives and was the company’s best-selling cab unit of all time – more than 2,300 cab-equipped A-units and just under 1,500 cabless B-units were built in total.

The EMD F7 replaced the EMD F3, although there were not many external differences between the two units – most changes were internal. Such was the popularity of the F7 that many remained in service for several decades as railroads found them economical to operate and maintain. However, they were not popular with yard crews as they were difficult to access and visibility was poor due to the high cab position and long nose.

With an operational speed of 80 km/h (50 mph) and a high tractive effort, the EMD F7 powered some of the most famous trains in North America, including Santa Fe’s Super Chief and El Capitan, and Great Northern’s Empire Builder, a famous passenger train route between Chicago and Seattle, Washington or Portland.

The Empire Builder first ran on 11 June 1929 and quickly became Great Northern’s premier passenger service. Named after James J Hill, a railroad tycoon, the train ran through some of the North West’s most spectacular scenery, which passengers could view through the train’s domed coaches and ‘Great Dome’ car for first class passengers as they passed through the Cascade Mountains, Rocky Mountains and Glacier National Park.

The Empire Builder continues today, operated by Amtrak and previously by Burlington Northern and the Great Northern Railway. Latterly, the train carries in excess of half a million passengers annually, maintaining its status as the most popular long-distance train in Amtrak’s national system.

The EMD F7 for Train Simulator is available in Great Northern ‘Empire Builder’ livery and includes the full coaching stock of the famous Empire Builder train, including sleeper cars, dome coach, sleeper observation car and mail baggage car. Features include cab lighting, Mars headlamp and passenger views from the different passenger cars.

The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the EMD F7 on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the Marias Pass route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

Scenarios

Three scenarios for the Marias Pass route:

The Great Northern F7 “Empire Builder” from RSC is a classic first generation North American diesel, something that we need more of for Train Simulator.

It includes the EMD F7 in Great Northern Railway livery with a sleeper car, dining car, passenger car, coffee dormitory, dome coach, great dome lounge car, sleeper observation car and mail baggage car.

The textures for the Great Northern F7 are better than the stock textures for the other F7s. This is especially noticeable on the truck detail. Diaphragms between the locomotives work and are connected ( a nice touch). Headlights work, but are connected to the Mars light which cannot be turned off. Numberboards light up when you turn on the headlights. The observation car has a working searchlight and illuminated end of train lamps, as well as an illuminated Empire Builder sign. Class lights on the locomotives do not work which I find to be a disappointment. Unfortunately, the windows and doors do not open. The roof-top fan blades do not move. The engine has cab lights, dynamic weather effects for the windows, and a crew.

Sounds for the F7 are excellent; RSC did not use the stock sounds from the GP-9. it sounds like RSC actually recorded a 567 engine block. The horn sounds great; it is obviously not a stock RSC airhorn. Dynamic brake sounds work and sound good. There are sounds for the windshield wipers, bell, sanders and the ‘thunk’ of the handles on the control stand.

As an added bonus this DLC comes with an EMD GP-9 freight locomotive, another first generation diesel. It is the stock GP-9 from the GP-9 DLC pack. Because I have done a review of the GP-9 pack I will not go into detail about the locomotive here. I will just say that for a three year old locomotive DLC, it is a good value. It comes in the Great Northern Livery and includes a Great Northern Box car, Reefer Cars, and a Great Northern Caboose. It would have been nice if more freight rolling stock had been included like flat cars, gondolas, coal hoppers, covered hoppers, and a tank car, but given the fact that we are getting what amounts to a free freight locomotive with rolling stock, I will forgive.

The F7 comes with 3 scenarios and both locomotives are Quick Drive compatible.

We need more first generation diesels to model the steam to diesel transition era (1940-1960) in North America and this DLC is a step in the right direction. Even though the locomotives don’t have all the “bells and whistles”, the overall value of the package is excellent and I would recommend it to my friends.

Final Verdict: Green Block: All Clear! You may proceed and make your purchase!

A nice addition to Marias Pass while giving you a chance to see the route in a earlier time. Passenger scenarios with this loco provide a nice change from the normal freight haulage common to this route.

I really love this engine.

Pros: The most beutiful diesel engine in the entire world.
Overwelmingly dietalide on the graphics
Coaches look great.
Comes with a EMD GP9 Passenger (withoud Dynamic Brakes).

Cons: Coahes slow down down hill.
GP9 Does not have a cab lamp
Sounds are far to quiet for the F7A

Really, it depends on what you want. I wanted the North Coast Limeted to be honest, but TS doesent have that do they...

This is a great trainset, one of my favorite in the WORLD, and now I can drive this beauty in TS! Comes with a batch of lovely scenarios for Marias Pass, and is a must buy! You can get this engine for around 6.99 USD on sale, so pick it up! The pack includeds both A and B models of the F7 (cabed and cabless), all of the passenger cars, some freight cars, and a Great Northern GP9.
The sounds for this model are very nice, no default F7 horns here!

There are only 2 problems I have with this addon: There are no included scenarios for the included GP9, and 2: I seem to have a problem with the bell on the F7. I literally have to hold the "B" button to keep the bell on.

Overall, I would definitly recommend this addons for everyone!

I'm more of a freight train guy, but from time to time I like to run some passengers. This historical set by far is my favorite. Classic looks, nice detail and sound and includes scenarios for the Marias Pass route. On sale it usually runs $6.99 and well worth it.

I don't know anything about how the actual Empire Builder look like, but this train have excellent detail and passenger coach views. There is 3 differrent views, 2 dome with 1 of them to be the bigger one, and a lounge room at the back of the train.

I enjoy driving this train on my Stevens Pass, but the senario's is only for Marias Pass. Good quality model and texturing.

This train set is a highly detailed histrical passenger train. Made specifically for Marias Pass, it provides a chance to drive a famous train through the Rockies. Included is an F7 and GP9 diesels wearing the Great Northern livery along with 40 ft. boxcars, caboose and a variety of Great Northern passenger coaches including dome cars and observation car. The GP9 is a great touch for the add-on but none of the scenarios use it and in one of the scenarios, you're driving the Empire Builder behind a freight train. Freight trains are supposed to be lower priority than passenger. Overall it is a great add-on pack. I highly recommend this!
