Информация о дополнении

The record-breaking streamlined Class A4 Pacifics were the flagships of prestigious high-speed steam travel in the UK, and the six surviving ‘Streaks’ are now available for Train Simulator in one special Gathering.

During a visit to Germany in 1933, Sir Nigel Gresley was taken by the high-speed streamlined ‘Flying Hamburger’ diesel train, a concept the London & North Eastern Railway had considered for its East Coast Main Line route. However, Gresley believed that steam power could do an equally impressive job and tested the theory with Class A3 ‘Papyrus’. Gresley’s tests were such a success that LNER granted permission to design more streamlined locomotives.

The Class A4s were designed for prestigious high-speed passenger services, running from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh, Scotland via York and Newcastle. Both internal and external streamlining improved coal and water usage, and a Kylchap double chimney was proven to improve efficiency, making the Class A4s a much admired model with their distinctive flowing aerodynamic profile.

A total of 35 ‘Streaks’ were produced at LNER’s Doncaster Works between 1935 and 1938 and were capable of a 90mph (140km/h) top speed in regular service. However, the Class A4s were record breakers from the outset - Silver Fox attained 113mph (182km/h) in August 1936, making it the highest recorded speed of a regular passenger train at the time.

The most famous of days for the Class A4s was on 3rd July 1938. Pulling six coaches and a dynamometer car, Mallard reached 126mph (202.8km/h) at Stoke Bank, breaking the world speed record for steam locomotives of 124.5mph (200.4km/h) previously held by a German DBG Class 05. The record still stands today, making 2013 the 75th anniversary of this record breaking occasion.

To mark the occasion, the UK’s National Railway Museum (NRM) is bringing all six surviving Class A4s together in one location. With the ‘Streaks’ fully withdrawn from mainline service by 1966, six were preserved – Mallard, Sir Nigel Gresley, Bittern, Union of South Africa, Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower. The latter two locomotives were moved to North America shortly after being withdrawn from service with the other four locomotives maintained on preserved railways or in museums.

The NRM’s Great Gathering assembled all six remaining Class A4s reunited and on display to the general public for a limited time, and the Class A4 Pacifics for Train Simulator recreates this unique gathering and the locomotives in the liveries they will be displayed in. They feature with and without their famous aerodynamic side fairings and a special Speed Test scenario between two fixed points on the London to Brighton route, giving you the opportunity to attempt Mallard’s record breaking speed.

The Class A4 Pacifics are also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the locomotives on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam.

Now these are engines you want to get right or they would be terribly terribly wrong and these engines are absolutely brilliant to drive in real mode, legacy mode, simple or expert controls.

They are fast, really fast and it doesn't take a genius in rocket science to get them reliably past the 100mph mark and you have the real feeling of "control", whether you are running with an auto fireman or stoking and driving, it is one of the must have steam packs for steam fans and is very well done I think.

Ah, the 'A4' Pacific. Who could fail to love what is undoubtably the most elegant steam locomotive ever design and who could fail to thank Sir Nigel Gresley for creating such a racehorse on rails. The best steam locomotive on Train Simulator so far, and I don't see it being out done anytime soon (if at all). Acceleration is smooth, braking pretty decent for the vacuum system (far better that the vacuum brakes on the '47s'), and the chime whistle sounds wonderful. This locomotive evokes the nostalgia and romance of the Golden Age of steam and looks the part too. The Bugatti car inspired streamlined front end is done perfectly to justice here and the interior is well detailed including signs for max. speed (75mph forwards, 45mph tender first). Nevertheless despite these speed restrictions I have had Bittern up to 99.8mph with 7 coaches, Mallard up to 103mph with 6 and Sir Nigel Gresley up to 124mph with 5 coaches all on the ECML London - Peterborough. So if you want to try and break 'A4' Mallard's 1938 record of 126.4mph you can certainly give it bash with the A4 Pacifics add-on, perfect for any lover of steam.

I was born a few years after the end of the steam era in the late 60s so I don't remember steam engines being in mainstream use, however when I was young, my parents took me to see the Mallard when it made a special appearance at Steam Town in Carnforth. I have admired these engines ever since. I could not have even imagined Train Sim back then, but now here are what I consider to be the most handsome steam engines in history ever to have graced the rails and I can drive them!!

They have been beautifully recreated in digital form both inside and out. The shine on the metal, realistic interiors and sounds, everything is absolutely perfect. A must buy for any steam fan.

The A4s are an icon of the railways, and to have them in RSC is a welcome addition. These steam engines perform flawlessly, and with 6 to choose from (just like in real life) you have tons of options. I would suggest getting it in addition to an East Coast route for a more authentic experience. I will admit its failing is the whistle, it's too quiet, but its worth the buy. In my case this is the most used locomotive in my collection.

Fantastic loco especially wheel slip sounds and whistle two thing which I am not keen on is on some routes after loading in quick drive the loco derails for no reason like the Falmouth and no matter how high my brakes are the loco always crashes into the IOW coaches during a free roam although I done it at 2mph.
