Champions of Regnum

For those of you who might be interested in this game, here's some specific details:

* The game came out in 2007, it is indeed a very OLD looking game. Low quality graphics.

* It's a RvR(realm vs realm) game. If you have played GW2 wvw or Dark Age of Camelot, it is highly similar to this game. There are enemy teams that compete in a fort defence style game.

* No plot/story/campaign. It is an RvR/PvP game, not a generic MMO with a plot line(aside from plot, its a generic mmo). There are tiny little stories with the quests, but that's it.

* There are 3 factions that compete in this RvR. Syrtis, Alsius, and Ignis. (good, neutral, bad)

* The controls are certainly NOT upto par with today's standards. There is no automatic targeting system, you must click on everything. You will have to make some adjustments to how the camera controls and movement keys work so it feels more fluid.

* The max level is 60, and it takes a VERY LONG time to reach it. If you did 10 of these 5-10 minute quests everyday, it would take 9 months to reach level 60. It is indeed a big experience curve.

* Very large map, though you will spend most of your time in certain areas.

* Before you can get to the PvP action, you will need to grind quests or monsters. It is a VERY HORRENDOUS grind. You will be fighting the same looking monsters, they are just higher levels. It uses the color system to denote a monsters level comparison to your own level.

* The game is very gear dependant whether it be fighting players or the bosses. You will need to invest a lot of time grinding for gear before you are close to being on equal terms in a fight. And mob drops are very poor to make things worse.

* The quests are buggy. Some dialogue may be grammatically incorrect or errors where values of objects should appear. The game was originally made in Argentina and then localised for English FYI.

* Aside from buggy quests, there are many more bugs and the server can be laggy at times.

* Each faction has 3 races. Each race provides different stat benefits to classes. For example, the Ignis faction has Dark Elves, Moloks, and Esquelios. Each race's stats add upto the same amount, it is fair!

* There are 3 classes: Warrior, Archer, and Mage. Each class has two choosable sub-classes. At level 10, you may choose to become one of the two for your class. It is a permanent choice. Example: Warrior may become either a Knight(defensive support role) or a Barbarian(offensive damage role)

* Each class has a standard set of skills. Choosing to become one of the sub-classes ADDS additional skills. There is basically no point in not choosing a sub-class.

* Changing/resetting your skills is EASY. And its very cheap. You simply talk to your class trainer, ask for reset, pay a small fee, then you may reassign your skill points as you like. This is good in my opinion!

* There are repeatable quests to do for gaining experience(you will eventually do these or grind mobs if you intend to reach lvl 60).

* Each realm has a dragon boss to fight. You must party up and enter an instance for a chance to earn some high level rewards. Each realm also has another boss located in the war area for more rewards.

* The community on the servers is small, but alive. You'll get to know regular players and hopefully make some friends you play with frequently. The population of each side(Syrtis, Alsius, Ignis) seems to vary from month to month, with one side dominating, but you should stick with one side. Don't be a traitor to your friends!

* Terrain themes of each realm:
Syrtis - Woodlands
Alsius - Snowy Mountains
Ignis - Desert

* Details about RvR:

Each faction has a Great Wall. It is what stands between enemies and safety. You have to complete some objectives in order to break through an enemy Great Wall.

Each faction has 3 relics. They are stored inside forts or a castle. These are outside the Great Wall in the War Zone. You try to steal all 3 relics of one faction and place them in your castle on this special pedestal. Once all three are placed, it summons your faction's dragon to attack the enemy's Great Wall. This lasts for one hour and is called an invasion.

You then go to their gate where your dragon is attacking and try to capture it(standing on the flag).

Then you would try to steal gems from the faction you are invading. Each faction has 2 gems, they are kept behind the wall on 2 pedestals in specified locations. If you can manage to steal a gem, you then place it on a "gem portal" located inside your faction's base. If you can gather all 6 gems(2 from each enemy faction for a total of 4, and the 2 from your own faction) and place them in the "gem portal", it opens and you can enter an area with a dragon.

The dragon grants one wish. There are four available wishes, and you vote for which one is granted. Getting a wish is basically considered "winning".

* CASH SHOP: So what benefits does paying for crap give you?

You can buy mounts which are not available in game for free EXCEPT for one mount which will simply take a VERY long time to earn. Mounts let you travel faster, but no combat or skill usage while on a mount. But a mount is a must, you won't want to be walking around on foot all the time.

You can buy armor enhancements. It's basically a socket item that may go into armor with available sockets. This is the only -true- PAY to WIN item.(armor only)

You can buy an item to make sockets in weapons. You could just farm monsters for loot and hope you get a good item with sockets. (weapon only)

Lot's of aesthetics(costumes, paint for armor, etc)

Lucky Boxes, which are apparently not lucky and not worth the purchase.

You might wanna try this game if:
-you like Realm VS Realm games
-you prefer a small community, you'll be playing with the same players regularly
-you are ok with a very slow, monotonous grind
-you don't mind very basic combat mechanics
-you prefer a quiet, peaceful, laidback game(I usually play the game on one half the screen and watch a movie on the other when grinding)

I'm a person who prefers a slow game where I have time to do everything. (I quit GW2 because of the constant monthly updates. I couldn't keep up with em.)

Champions of Regnum can be a fun game, It feels really classic in alot of aspects and doesnt really bring anything "new" to the table. The game is not bad though and if you are a fan of fantasy mmos with a classic feel you should give it a try. It is not very popular though so dont expect to do much group content. There is not anything "bad" about Champions of Regnum, it just feels really generic. You should try this game if you are 1. looking for a "time-killer" 2. A fan of fantasy mmos 3. a fan of older mmos.

If you know what you're getting into then you're more likely to enjoy this. I had to give this game THREE chances before it hooked me, the first in 2007 when it came out, the second last year, and then about a week ago i tried again. There will be grind, both in quests and killing and just trekking. But if you can deal with that (as a mmo player, you should) then the games RvRvR kind of makes up for it, with the odd tweaks to combat to make it more interesting. Good character customization makes up for standard slow hotbar combat too. I play it for the Dwarves, and to kill Elves, it carries me through the faults and i enjoy it, just find your own reason, and let that reason be Dwarves.

I've played this game YEARS before it was introduced to Steam...
Overall... It was a good game... It's changed soooo much from before... The interface... Animations... Models... Spell/Skill branches... Level Cap... Some of it annoyed me... But some of it impressed me... It's quite an immersive game. Most people you meet are friendly... Some of them can be big-headed ♥♥♥♥♥ like most of the 'MLG' class idiots.
This kind of game is a LONG-TERM game... You're not going to get Max level in the click of your fingers... But along the way you can make good friends... Have frustrating moments. And have moments where you were like... "OMG THAT WAS AWESOME!"
I would recommend this game, and just give it a try, you never know if you like something until you've tried it... It's been through a huge development stage as I consider it, and I've personally spent money on accounts I've owned to support it... But in all honesty... It has become an interesting, unique MMORPG with a kind hearted Community in total...
