About This Game

Mushroom Men: Truffle Trouble is a unique platforming game featuring Pax, the hero of Mushroom Men.

Pax is trapped in a terrible nightmare. You control Pax as he is pursued by the besotted Truffle Princess, combining classic platforming action with imaginative puzzle-solving as you must move, stack, and use objects to create new paths to jump and clamber on, all while the Truffle Princess draws ever closer.

Being in a dream, even if it is a nightmare, can have its advantages. Pax can transform into different forms to help him negotiate the world, each with its own distinct and powerful abilities. You can use the forms to scamper across vertical walls, turn invisible, or even fly across vast chasms, but using them at the right time is the key.

Mushroom Men: Truffle Trouble hooks you with its distinct gameplay, then keeps you engaged with its beautiful worlds, quirky humor, and Pax’s super-powered forms.

  • Platforming - Pax can run, jump, climb, cling to ledges, push, pull, and grab objects, and use his special Form abilities to overcome obstacles.
  • Puzzles - Pax is able to manipulate his environment through stacking or moving objects in the world, allowing you to creatively use parts of the environment to create new paths for platforming your way forward.
  • The Chase - As you move through the levels you are under a time pressure: the Truffle Princess is after you, steadily smashing her way through the level. You must find a way to keep ahead, increasing your lead enough so that you have time to puzzle through the tricky parts. Even the most basic stretches of levels become critical as you push to stretch your lead.
  • Enemies - Scattered throughout the levels are opponents that you want to avoid or destroy. Each opponent has a different set of abilities. Some move about in a small area, others fly about and attack you from range. You either need to avoid them and their attacks, or land on them to squish them.
  • Forms - Truffle Trouble features five new Forms that Pax can mutate into, each one with its own set of distinct powers and movement abilities.
    • Ghost Pax, who is invisible to enemies and the Princess.
    • Moth Pax, who can fly.
    • Spider Pax, who can walk on walls and ceilings.
    • Mole Pax, who can tunnel through dirt with his powerful claws.
    • Super Pax, who can run and jump faster and higher than trains and tall buildings.

This game is pretty fun. It has great graphics and art. It's easy to get pulled in to a couple of levels at a time. I put in about 25 minutes without realizing it. Ok, now for the funny part. The game is all about a skinny guy trying to get away from an obese "princess" that doesn't accept him running away as rejection. She thinks he's scared to get with her because of how beautiful she is. This...is...hilarious... but the story this obvious only really works in this game. Play the first few levels and don't get too far ahead so you can hear some of the stuff she says to Pax, it's worth it.

The gameplay will take a bit to get used to because of how the levels are layed out. A lot of reviews complain about dying a lot and it's possible but if you just focus on having fun and making it to the end of the level, you don't really get attached to the dying thing. I haven't had as much trouble as others have said so I can't say much about it. The store page video shows accurate gameplay and level detail but you might want to see more of a few levels in order to decide if this is a game for you. A lot of the focus will be on making it through each level to get your best time. I'm not a fan of that type of game but this one really entertained me. I think the $12 price tag is too much but with the quality of the visuals I'd say it's for the time that went into that. I got this game in a bundle and would have probably spent $5 or $6 on this if I didn't. It's enjoyable and I'm going to play more of it but from what I've played so far, the price doesn't match the game. Pick it up in a bundle or during a sale and I doubt you'd regret it as long as you checked it out first.

The game has a decent enough concept and good visuals but is unfortunately ruined by poor movement. Expect A LOT of unfair deaths! It's entertaining for a while, but it will become frustrating within a mere few hours. I'd only recommended getting it from a bundle or at an extreme discount.
Rating: 4/10

Halwin's 100% Completion Recommendation
Difficulty: 9/10
Time: ~5 hours

One achievement requires you to beat 10 levels (from one of the four environements) on all difficulties. If you were to attempt this you would soon discover that on hard the levels become near impossible, if not impossible! I only managed to get this achievement because I encountered a bug on the hardest level allowing me to finish it. The other achievements are very straightforward and simple.

Going to have to -1 this for one simple reason.
This is a console game on the PC, and they didn't even bother to ensure the tutorial shows the PC controls.

You're told to press A, B, X, Y, Lr, etc,. but those keys do not in any way match the PC keys.
Stop being lazy devs and fix this properly!

It is impossible to play this game without a controller. It lacks any customization options, and it have a very uncomfortable keyboard layout.

You can't change resolution or any other aspect of the game.

This makes the experience very unpleasant to me, and I not recommend this game until this is fixed.

Keyboard bindings are insane. Tutorial doesn't even bother to tell you what they are. Uninstall, idle for cards.

It's a lot of fun to see Mushroom Men again. The original game on Wii was so much fun. This game is much different, it's a platformer with small puzzles sprinkled in by having to place crates and trampolines in the right places to progress through the level. This game is crazy hard tho! You're being chased by the Truffle Princess which basically times you to get these puzzles in place to platform ahead before she catches you, otherwise you die. You can change the difficulty of the game to "easy" and she won't be present tho so the game basically becomes a more casual puzzle-solving game. Personally, right now I prefer this mode which makes it nice to platform along and enjoy things without feeling rushed as you figure out the puzzles.

Art is amazing. There's a rendered cinematic movie at the start of Level 1 that looks like something from Blur or Pixar. And the cutscenes between worlds are great as well. The environment is nice and still has that great charm from the original Mushroom Men. The main character is great, enemies are great, Truffle Princess is hideously great, and the music is great.

Overall I think this game is a lot of fun, pretty original and it's refreshing to have a challenge these days with so many watered down games out there that dumb down the difficulty to the point that you are sick of them too quickly. I won't be sick of Mushroom Men: Truffle Trouble anytime soon.

I strongly recommend this game.

Great game, starts off mostly platformer. The puzzles have multiple ways to get by for the most part in the beginning of the game. Then the game quickly progresses to a harder bit more fast paced platformer with one solution puzzles. The whole time your going there is a wierd princess following you that has seemingly a crush on you but wants you for desert.

The art and cinematics are amazing as well.

This is a beautiful puzzle/platformer that I'd recommend for any gamer up for a challenge. Its a nice blend of twitch gameplay imbedded with clever puzzles that can really make you think. There are definitey some levels you'll have to play multiple times, but when you make it to the end its a rewarding feeling. The art style is quirky and fun. The music is really funky and cool. Pax needs your help to escape the Truffle Princess!!!

First off if you've played the other 2 games, chances are you already bought this/are thinking of buying it. If you have, this game dosent spoil anything from the first 2. That fact aside, Pros: This game is one of the best optimised pc games ever, the graphics are phenominal, the gameplay is very solid, and the challenge level is fair. Cons:music is recyled from the spore wars and the keyboard controls are a bit confusing. All in all,if you even remotley like puzzle platformers, this should definitley be a game you should play! My score:9/10

It’s a shame, I wanted to love it, but amazing graphics and decent audio isn’t everything in a Puzzle Platforming game like this, the puzzles are, the platforming is, and they feel bland, recycled and clunky. However, if you want to play a slideshow, turn the difficulty to Easy and explore the detailed and nightmarish world of Truffle Trouble, at least for the graphics.

Still, I'll recommend it only because it's not explicitly a bad game. It's tense, and in can sometimes be fun, but I can't look past the negatives.

Once you master the controls (I like to use the keyboard) it's actually extremely satisfying running, jumping, pushing and pulling... Then you die. A lot. Ok, you have to learn to do all of the above pretty quickly so you don't caught by the huge beast infatuated by you. I got it half price, well worth it!
