Reviews

“It's not the fact that The Stanley Parable makes you think about the nature of choice in games that makes it extraordinary. It's the fact that it does so while simultaneously managing to be a wildly entertaining, hilarious, and surprising experience.”
9/10 - Gamespot

“It's this bouncing between serious tone and irreverence that makes The Stanley Parable so special. You never know what to expect."
10/10 - Joystiq

“Where so many games that aspire to be more than games end up less than any form of art, Stanley Parable strives, and then succeeds.”
10/10 - Destructoid

“Astoundingly labyrinthine onion-like layers of narrative tangents the player can embark on in what feels like the unholy interactive offspring of Inception, Being John Malkovich and Portal.”

About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, zippity zop begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. I loved this game. I loved finding all the endings in this game, and looking up ones that I would have never figured out on my own. (btw helarious) This game has that witty humor I just love. I just love this game. You have a choice pretty much about anything in this game.

It's all nice and dandy until you start feeling that the nth iteration doesn't differ that much from the previous one, nor did the nth ending impress you enough to compensate. It simply becomes too repetitive.

It's kinda confusing, at the same time it's really cool.

Also, there's a somewhat plot twist. This relates to how Stanley's coworkers have randomly perished. What you have to do? Well, near the end of the game press the power "ON" button. The narrorator will ask why you did that, because you had a chance to turn the power off and win. I'm going to leave it there. The narrorator babbles on about how stupid you are. One of those messages tells the story of how your coworkers have lost their apperance. Let's just leave this here.

Anyway, it's a great game. 10/10, would rate it again.

A very fun, original, and interesting game. So many possible ways to play, and it seems they've accounted accounted for everything.

This game is the definition of meta. But it's in a fun and entertaining way rather than incomprehendably artistic.

I recommend everyone play this game at least once!

The Stanley Parable is the one walking simulator that actually deserves to be a game. While you mostly just walk around and have very limited methods of interacting with the world, you actually have a lot of choices to make and different paths to find. Also, the writing and voice acting is great and very funny and the game manages to do "environmental storytelling" well - what you see and experience influences the story and is not just a pretty backdrop for the narration.

It will probably not keep you playing more than a couple of hours, until you reached all (or most) of the endings but for a few bucks it's definately worth picking up and being experienced.

Simply Impressive. A true work of introspection into a seemingly mundane matter, and it's effects. I am in love by it's narrative and the storytelling, this is much more than a game.

I didn't know anything about this game when I first loaded it up and started playing. My son had watched videos of it on Youtube and told me it was a game I had to play...and to avoid spoilers. So I bought it and took a chance.

I managed to kill myself in less than a minute...and I didn't stop laughing for at least half an hour. The voice acting is fantastic and so is the crazy, winding, bizarre story.

I absolutely love this game.

what did I just play?
was I playing at all?
am I Stanley or is Stanley me?
why a parable?
why pushing buttons?
the meaning of choices?
this is not a game this is madness and I really adore madness so this was awesome.
want action? skip this one
want a deep romantic story? skip this
truly not a conventional game, truly not really a game and yet more of a game than many games
it goes up and then down or down and then up, it is more like a parabola than a parable....

I was recently talking with a friend about how we hate games that call themselves "games" but are really just stories with no true interaction. "Games" where the designer just wanted to tell a story and occasionally has the player click something to move the story along but the player's actions never actually mean anything. The Stanley Parable is very much NOT that sort of game. It has some legitimately profound things to say about narration and choice in games and storytelling, but it never comes off as pretentious. But I can't really say much else, because I don't want to spoil it. I normally hate vague reviews that tell you "just play it, I don't want to spoil it!" but... it's true. Trust me. Or don't trust me, since I'm an idiot that unironically enjoys Goat Simulator. Whatever.

Clever and witty. Play time is anywhere from 3 minutes to hours. It is a thin story with numerous branches to follow on subsequent playthroughs.

The basic theme comes across like Hitchicker's Guide to the Galaxy, with a fun narrator and amusing circumstances. I can see a few of the references getting dated, before too long, but overall it is a very good little game.

Very unique and highly replayable (Until you do everything, then it's not so good).
This is one of the few games I 100%ed. If you look at the achievements you might understand why I was compelled to.

Walk through the same office 50 times and get your mind blown each time.

Mind♥♥♥♥ery and whitty comments throughout a very inventive narrative. You really have to play it all in one session, but it only takes 2-3 hours to "complete".

The Stanley Parable is an experimental narrative-driven first person game. It is an exploration of choice, freedom, storytelling and reality, all examined through the lens of what it means to play a video game.

- You will make a choice that does not matter

- You will follow a story that has no end

- You will play a game you cannot win

...it's actually best if you don't know anything about it before you play it...

The HD Remix of The Stanley Parable is a remodeled, remastered version of this unique title.

I think this is not even a game, but in life someone told us to give us advice, and someone wants to scourge us, he brings a very deep meaning. 10/10

It is pretty simple:

1. play the game
2. play it again
3. and again
4. asking yourself: what the heck?
5. put the adventure line theme on your mobile device as ring tone

a friend gameshared this with me. He didn't tell me what it was about, he just said "You'll love it." I booted the game up, and was surprised to find that:

1. It wasn't a troll game

2. I actually enjoyed this game

I sat through a couple hours of it, and found this game entertaining. I legit couldn't put the controller down. 10/10 would play a sequal if they ever make one.

One word to describe this game: BRILLIANT.
The 4th wall is constantly destroyed, actually there's not even a 4th wall anymore, and you catch yourself wondering who you are at the end of it.
And the narration is amazingly performed, seriously. This is such a unique game that gives a unique experience, I definitely recommend playing it!!!

The Stanley Parable is a unique "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style walking simulator, with a heavy focus on humor relating to the role of narration and the player/viewer/reader in an interactive story.

Overall I would say the game is a very enjoyable, albeit somewhat short, experience. I'd be hard-pressed to find a joke or gag that fell flat.

This game is amazing, this is not the game. You're playing it as the narrator says, you're not playing it in a right way! I don't know how, but every my stupid step, every my clever step is commented, this is story already written and the narrator knows everything... I can only imaging how huge the script scenario is, I cannot imaging such a complex scenario. I was lauging out loud.

P.S. I enjoy such format of a story much more than any Telltale Games.

An experimental narrative masterpiece. Even not playing the game (for five years) is part of the game's narrative and so is playing the game for a whole Tuesday. A must have for all serious achievement hunters and all who enjoy artistic metacommentary of the responsibilities of raising children and puppies. Don't be heartless and let the baby burn!
