Reviews

“It's not the fact that The Stanley Parable makes you think about the nature of choice in games that makes it extraordinary. It's the fact that it does so while simultaneously managing to be a wildly entertaining, hilarious, and surprising experience.”
9/10 - Gamespot

“It's this bouncing between serious tone and irreverence that makes The Stanley Parable so special. You never know what to expect."
10/10 - Joystiq

“Where so many games that aspire to be more than games end up less than any form of art, Stanley Parable strives, and then succeeds.”
10/10 - Destructoid

“Astoundingly labyrinthine onion-like layers of narrative tangents the player can embark on in what feels like the unholy interactive offspring of Inception, Being John Malkovich and Portal.”

About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, meaning begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. A game with no shooting, no war, no blood and relatively no violence that's GOOD?!
Magnificent, briliant, wonderful, glorious, epic, amazing, awesome, beautiful...Just play it.
Don't watch any youtubers play it, at least not before you have completely played and explored it yourself.
10/10.

Possibly one of the strangest and greatest games ever made.

This is a story about a man named Stanley ... but honestly it really is a story about a Narrator and the exquisite mental torture he puts you through trying to figure out why. 'Why what?' I hear you ask. No! Just simply 'why'. A question you will constantly ask yourself, and probably never answer well enough to feel satisfied.

So what is the game? Well you play Stanley, who works in an office. And one day Stanley realises everyone else has disappeared and it is up to him to find out why ... or is it? You see the problem with describing this game is whilst there are many different endings, none of them seem to be 'the right one', or perhaps all of them are.

Yes I realise this review is not even slightly helpful in undertand what this game is, and wether or not you should buy it. So here it is: Buy this game and play it! It is something that everyone should experience. Love it or hate it .... you really should try it.

There really isn't anything that you can say about this except that it isn't a game. Anyone buying it as such will be sorely disappointed. What it IS is a brilliant commentary on not just gaming culture, but the thought processes of gamers themselves.

It really is brilliantly done, and superbly executed. As a gamer, I felt a strange air of danger and menace throughout, as if something was going kick off and lead to some sort of battle for survival, and the game plays with this notion throughout, offering a number of different "endings". The "good" ending (which I won't spoil) is a very well observed satire on game design and player choice.

It really is hard to write anything about the game without spoiling something! All I can really say is - it's not for everyone. Some people may look down on people who don't enjoy it or don't get it and that's not entirely fair. The ideas and concept explored aren't hugely complex, but probably require a high level of self awareness and self criticism on the part of the player.

In summary - this is a sublime mix of art, gaming and genuine entertainment.

Stanley enjoyed The Stanley Parable so much that he decided to write a positive review. He wrote:

"This game is good."

Then Stanley clicked the thumbs up button for the review. His review was so descriptive, so interesting, so inspiring, so amazing that he almost didin't have the heart to post it due to it being such a fantastic review. So Stanley instead clicked the thumbs down button for the review, which made his entire review make absolutley no sense at all, but he posted it anyway. After he posted his review, he realized that everyone in his workplace was missing, so Stanley-

The Stanley Parable is a narrative story that stars, you guessed it, Stanley. Stanley works in a dead end job carrying out mindless tasks; and the story is told by one of the best narratives I have ever heard. Graphics isn't an important feature here, but that being said, it looks really nice.

The design of the world is very well done, you are essentially in an office building, but it does a very clever thing where you can sometimes be walking around in a circle, and then all of a sudden the world changes, and you are somewhere else. This made the experience feel more real to me. You can make this game as easy or as difficult as you want. There is fifteen different stories and endings to the Stanley Parable, each of them is amazingly written, probably one of, if not the best story in gaming I've experienced and well worth playing. It has taken me almost seven hours to play through all of the endings, and do all but one of the achievements. After you have played all of the endings though, there is probably no need to go replay any of the game again.

Is the game worth £9, 99, sure? For about seven hours of gameplay and the amount of fun I had playing it; you cannot miss out on The Stanley Parable. This is now in my top ten favourite games of all time.

This game offers more than just enjoyment, It offers and experience that no other game can offer you. This is definitely one of the more creative games I've seen until now. It's so unique and will f*** with your mind at first. If you go into it with an open mind, you will come out with an amazing experience, with a profound message backed by a brilliant and intriguing soundtrack. It has some funny moments, full of surprises and references. You will play it for max 5-6 hours and it has ZERO replay value once you've finish it all, but it deserves to be played at least once by everybody.

P.S.
The end is never the end...

I think it's more worth when you buy on the sale price.
The game is good, i love how the narrator narrating the game.
But yes, this game lack of length and for someone who don't like repeating things you will get easily bored.
Anyway, i give thumbs up for the narrator.

There isnt really any other game quite like this one. It's an adventure that changes with each playthrough based on the decisions you make. You are Stanley and you start out in your stale office, in your stale job, in your stale life....or do you? Perhaps your life is amazing, sad, depressed, happy...whatever. The choice is yours.

The gameplay is seamless. Perfect controls for the game. The graphics are also top notch. It actually looks like the Unity engine a bit, but if it was, the developer maximized what he got out of it. Some of the puzzles can be challenging, and deception factors in to some aspects of this game as well.

The narration however is really where this game is at. There are only two other games that I can think of that rivals this one in that regard (Battleblock Theater, Bastion), although their styles couldnt be more different.

I have seen something like 18 different endings with this game. Not sure how many there really are, but there are a lot, and so as you can expect, there is a ton of replay value with this game.

The developer also had some fun with the achievements. One of them is to play all day (24 hours) on a Tuesday, lol. One is to play, and then play again a year later. Etc....

This game is an easy 10/10. It is perfect for what it is trying to be, doesnt force anything, and allows itself to be whatever you want it to be.
