The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, meaning begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

This game has no objectives or enemies or puzzles but it does have a deep emotional story about who Stanley is and where he is, you will have to find out for yourself. I think that covers The Stanley Parable review.

At it's core, it's a playful mockery of video game storytelling themes. The writing is clever, and the narration is charming, while also managing to be just a little unsettling. It's a game, so much in that you control movement and press buttons. But there isn't any combat, and the freedom of choice is just an illusion (which is kinda the point). It's meant to be played over and over again, just to see the different reactions you can get from the game. And there are many many reactions to find.

And if this doesn't sound like something you'd want to spend any time with, you can always treat it like a really obscure easter egg hunt. Because there's a ton of those too. If you are like me, and you try to break a game just for fun, you might find out that this game considers it a legitimate storytelling branch.

And if that doesn't sell it to you either, you can consider it a narrator annoyance simulator. It's something for everyone, provided you like these three things.

Он словно гипнотизировал ее своим уставшим взглядом и, казалось, еще мгновение и пулеметная очередь из букв, цифр и знаков вопроса, перекликающихся с восклицательными знаками, заполнят пространство монитора. Стэнли бросил взгляд на часы... Часовая стрелка вот-вот собиралась закончить очередной безумный дневной раж и успешно финишировать под номером 7, ведь было уже поздно и пора было возвращаться домой, но Стэнли не мог уйти просто так. "Дом, родные стены... все это тлен", - успокаивал себя Стэнли - "Дома все слишком знакомо, а тут... тут я приношу пользу. Ведь кто еще, если не я?"

Стэнли украдкой посмотрел в окно. Где-то далеко, за горизонтом, вдали от корпоративных уставов и канонов, небоскребов папок и бумаг, скрипучих сканеров, принтеров и заляпанных кофе-машин была другая жизнь. Где-то пели птицы, ведь было лето. Или, быть может, это было начало весны, или даже ранняя осень. Корпоративному духу и какофонии телефонных звонков, что так привычно играли на нервах, как на расстроенном пианино, там не было места, зато было место духу свободы. Там ничего не отвлекало и не мешало процессу уединения с самим собой, или с кем-то рядом. Кто так же как и Стэнли пришел сюда, в этот час и в эту минуту, словно занял место в зрительном зале, где вот-вот должен начаться удивительный спектакль, билеты на который были проданы давным давно.

Стэнли посмотрел на свои руки. На пальцах не было никаких украшений, ничего. Быть может, Стэнли был беден и жалование офисного клерка не давало возможности приобрести хорошую мужскую бижутерию? Нет, Стэнли получал достаточно за свой труд. Возможно, он не любил дорогие побрякушки, считая ношение колец и аксессуаров уделом женской половины? Нет, в юности Стэнли слушал рок-н-ролл и диско и носил браслеты, значки и цепочки с логотипами любимых групп и коллективов. Стэнли выбрал для себя работу и чтит ей верность вот уже на протяжении многих лет. Многие прекрасные дамы, строившие нашему герою глазки, тщетно пытались разрубить этот гордиев узел, сковывавший его по рукам и ногам, но их попытки не увенчались успехом.

И настал день, кажется, это было раннее утро. День, Когда Все Не Так. Как вода, что со временем точит даже камень, так и один единственный день, когда все было вверх дном оказался способен сокрушить дом из бетонных плит без дверей и окон в котором жил наш герой.

"Надоело...", - бросил Стэнли. Кажется, он был готов заплакать, прямо здесь и сейчас. Ему было плохо? Может, ему было больно? Он съел что-нибудь, или выпил? Ему было за что-то обидно? Что же он сделал не так? Увы, но мы не в силах это выяснить. Стэнли резко встал со стула, в результате чего тот стал бешено крутиться словно юла, расправил плечи и вышел из комнаты, закрыв за собой дверь.

Stanley was sitting in his office in ringing silence, gazing on the green twinkling dot in the center of the screen. He felt like he was hypnotizing it with his tired gaze and it seemed like it's just a few moments before dozens of letters, numbers and symbols along with question and exclamation marks start rolling down the screen, filling it completely. Stanley threw his glimpse on the clock hanging on the wall... Hour-hand was about to strike 7 and end it's daily rush finishing it's ultimate race. It was late and it was a perfect time to go home. But Stanley coulndn't go home. "Home, sweet home they say", - said Stanley to himself - "Home is always so boring in it's neverendin day-to-day routine. But this is special what I am doing here. I am being of extreme benefit. Who else if not me?"

Stanley took a good look from the window. Somewhere far away, behind the horizon, hundreds of miles away from corporate laws and rules and restrictions of any kind, away from skyscrapers made of paper and work sheets, creaking scanners and printers and dirty coffee-making machines. Somewhere at a great distance birds were singing, for it was a middle of summertime. Or perhaps it was a beginning of spring, or early autumn. There was no room for so-called corporate spirit and telephone ringing cacophony, but was more than enough space for spirit of freedom. It was a place where everyone could be at peace with himself or with someone else who also came there just as Stanley would, if he could.

Stanley looked at his hands, or to be precise, at his fingers. There was neither ring nor trinket, nothing. Mayhap Stanley was too poor and simply couldn't afford a single piece of jewellery? Nope, Stanley had a decent salary. Maybe he wasn't too much of a fan of buying things of exquisite design at all, considering them being mostly a part of feminine fashion? Nope, when Stanley was a young boy and listened to rock'n'roll, he used to wear all sorts of trinkets with logos of his favourite bands. Stanley had chosen his job as his bride and was loyal to it. Many good-looking ladies who knew Stanley tried to win his heart, but none of their efforts were fruitful.

And the day has come, it was an early morning. The Day When Everything Has Changed. Just as dropping is capable of wearing away a stone, a single day could raze the house built of concrete like it was made out of cards where Stanley had been living.

"I am sick of it...", - said Stanley in frustration. It seemed like he was about to cry right away. Was he feeling sick? Or in pain? Maybe he ate something bad or drank? What did that guy do wrong? Alas, but this is out of our power to discover it. Stanley eagerly stood up from his chair, straightened his shoulders and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.

Although it only kept me occupied for a small amount of time, this game was hilarious and the experience was well worth the cost. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a game that breaks free of storyline clichés.

I would love, to write a review on this but when I got gifted it (Thankss CJ) I was told not to look at "ANYTHING" to with this game, and play the demo first or "EVERYTHING" will be spoiled.
So, all I'm gonna say is this is amazing and go buy and play both the game and the demo and I aint gonna spoil a thing

Stanley Parable is a unique, if not atypical game. You play as employee number 427; an employee who only pushes buttons as per the instructions of his superiors. Stanley, however, does not receive any orders one day, therefore, he gets up from his desk and starts investigating what exactly has happened.

And this is where you take control of him in this FPS which uses the well-known game engine called Source. Our protagonist immediately notices that nobody else is present in the office - he passes empty cubicles and corridors trying to find the answers.

There are no weapons in this game. No NPCs you can interact with. No objectives. No goals. Stanley Parable is about exploration. And this exploration, this journey of our white-collar worker is accompanied by the narrator's voice.

However, you will notice that the narrator tells Stanley, in advance, which door he is supposed to take. But you can refuse the command and go to the direction you desire. And this is the most crucial part of this game: it is about choices. Your choices.

And these choices can yield you at least a dozen endings. Endings that are funny, serious, sarcastic and some are even meant to be no more than mere easter eggs.

This is not something you'll spend dozens of hours with. No, Stanley Parable can be completed in a mere 30 minutes, still, it's worth the journey and the appreciation.

There's so much to like about this game - the humour and writing, the not-so-subtle commentary on game design, the hidden endings - yet perhaps the greatest strength of "The Stanley Parable" is its underlying heart. The ability to empathize with the titular Stanley as he fails or succeeds in various degrees is what ties the whole package together. Plus, you can blow through all the content in five hours or so, making this is a quick investment with a ton of payoff.

The Stanley Parable is about choice. The game explores the meaning of choice in videogames, and it does so in a very disturbing and engaging way.

I got impressed with how it deals with the conflict between narrator and protagonist, somehow following up from where Portal 2 stops.
