About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, meaning begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. For a more complete and in-depth understanding of what The Stanley Parable is, please try out the free demo.

As I am sure many people have noted, this game is not working for me. I am having the worst time getting the menu to appear, and am not overally pleased at having bought this game just to have it have a serious bug.

The stanley parable is a unique gem of a game. Whether you are fed up with FPS, exhausted from RPG or just lacking in original and CHEAP games to play- this is the answer. Full of portal vibes this exploration game is creative, funny and intriguing. The narrator is superb- in my mind surpassing even GLaDOS, an obvious inspiration. Like GLaDOS, the narrator is sarcastic, rude and controlling. The graphics are standard source engine- nothing special but perfect for the game. The game constantly confuses with 19 found/proven endings- there could easily be more. The game is cheap and on sale often so no reason not to get it. The game is not long but it can be. Basically you will walk along a corridor and meet a crossroads. The narrator will say "Stanley went right" but you could go right or left and your actions change the story. Worth a shot by any type of gamer.

A great parable put into a game. I liked it very much. Due to the fact I bought it in Summer Sale it was worth every penny. For the full price I would have expected something with a longer gameplay (roughly 90 minutes to check out the different paths).

This truely is a piece of art.

This game is absolutely brilliant. When I started playing I had no idea what I was getting into and the game just blew my mind. I spent most of the time laughing while enjoying the fantastic 'storytelling'. I think it is the best game I played this year.

The Stanley Parable is another "walking simulator." But it's a marvel of a game. Turning gaming storytelling and tropes on their head, the narrator rewards your decisions with sometimes hilarious and other times serious narration. It is this narration that makes the game. Each choice you make splinters into another choice and another until finally you reach one of many endings. The first time you play through the game, you'll realize just how expansive it really may be. With so much variety in such a small package, this game will not let you down.

There once was a man named Stanley,

Who people considered so manly.

But the truth must be told,

He was not very old,

And was quite particularly gangly.

What Stanley liked most was buttons.

He pushed them like some kind of glutton.

He did it all day

In a meaningful way,

But his brain had long ceased to function.

Which is why he is in this parable,

And lives an existence quite terrible.

And if you are not strong,

And keep playing along,

You too will become quite unbearable (x2).

"This is the story of a man named Stanley. Stanley worked for a company in a big building where he was employee number 427...

Get comfortable, the endings are different but the intro will always be the same."

You play as Stanley and follow or derail a not really great story. The story is nonlinear as you listen to or disregard The Narrator.

I highly recommend this game but I really don't but The Narrator is holding me at gunpoint and I would suggest buying it but really don't because The Narrator will be after you too.

Have fun!

A walking simulator done right. A game that's extremely aware of itself and the player, and uses its meta narrative in clever, inventive and enjoyable ways, unlike 90% of indie trash. Humor, horror, drama - it does it all and does it well. Has surprising amounts of replayability.

One of the few games to truly make me laugh out loud; the way the Narrator responds to your actions (or lack thereof) is just genius!
Whilst the game may be short, it is eminently replayable to discover all the different routes and endings.
Thoroughly recommended!

It's worth a few dollars, you'll get a laugh out of it, but the $15 regular price on here is ridiculously overpriced for the time you'll spend in game.

If you like snarky narrators and adequate planning for players deviating from the main path, give this one a go. The game's limited in its replayability, and by now, there are enough LPs to have seen everything. If possible, go in blind, but it's otherwise a fun game to try out. It being a sale at the time of writing, you should pick this up regardless.

Note: if, like me, you played the original mod back in the day, you'll get an even bigger kick from the game, but I would not recommend you going back to play that now. Find a video for a little extra as you explore.
