"One of the only "minimal gameplay" games I've ever enjoyed. A "walking simulator" with a great sense of humour that mocks game design intelligently."

Reviews

“It's not the fact that The Stanley Parable makes you think about the nature of choice in games that makes it extraordinary. It's the fact that it does so while simultaneously managing to be a wildly entertaining, hilarious, and surprising experience.”
9/10 - Gamespot

“It's this bouncing between serious tone and irreverence that makes The Stanley Parable so special. You never know what to expect."
10/10 - Joystiq

“Where so many games that aspire to be more than games end up less than any form of art, Stanley Parable strives, and then succeeds.”
10/10 - Destructoid

“Astoundingly labyrinthine onion-like layers of narrative tangents the player can embark on in what feels like the unholy interactive offspring of Inception, Being John Malkovich and Portal.”

About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, meaning begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. The Stanley Parable is a narrative story that stars, you guessed it, Stanley. Stanley works in a dead end job carrying out mindless tasks; and the story is told by one of the best narratives I have ever heard. Graphics isn't an important feature here, but that being said, it looks really nice.

The design of the world is very well done, you are essentially in an office building, but it does a very clever thing where you can sometimes be walking around in a circle, and then all of a sudden the world changes, and you are somewhere else. This made the experience feel more real to me. You can make this game as easy or as difficult as you want. There is fifteen different stories and endings to the Stanley Parable, each of them is amazingly written, probably one of, if not the best story in gaming I've experienced and well worth playing. It has taken me almost seven hours to play through all of the endings, and do all but one of the achievements. After you have played all of the endings though, there is probably no need to go replay any of the game again.

Is the game worth £9, 99, sure? For about seven hours of gameplay and the amount of fun I had playing it; you cannot miss out on The Stanley Parable. This is now in my top ten favourite games of all time.

"Stanley thought this game was amazing. He found the idea of multible endings quite enjoyable. So much so, in fact, that he scrolled up out of the reviews, and clicked the Add to Cart button."

"Oh, perhaps you misunderstood. Stanley clicked the Add to Cart button."

"Stanley clicked on the Add to Cart button."

"Are you even listening to me? STANLEY CLICKED THE ADD TO CART BUTTON!"

"Fine, do whatever you want, Stanley, but you should have listened to me. Do you think I'm trying to trick you? Why would I do that? Are you that convinced I want you to waste your money? I'm serious, Stanley, this game is amazing. Now please, scroll up and click the Add to Cart button. I promise you'll like it."

This game makes walking in circles enjoyable.

8/8 would walk in circles again.

Broom closet ending is the best ending.

What a cute little gem. Never has a game broken down the forth wall this much and I embrace it this willingly. And the achievements are some of the most creative and amusing ones to unlock. 10/10
