About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, meaning begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. For a more complete and in-depth understanding of what The Stanley Parable is, please try out the free demo.

There are a few nice jokes. It is fairly short for the price. It is not a bad game but after reading the positive reviews here I was expecting much more than what it actually is.

I honestly didn't expect much from this game when i snagged it among the other pile of games I had purchased during the steam summer sale, but from the moment I started this game I couldn't stop playing. The narration, exploration, mystery, comedy, EVERYTHING about this game appealed to me. I enjoyed every moment even when i was being insulted for the choices i made in game xD it was all part of the fun. I decided to give it a chance because the style reminded me of portals gameplay. I was not dissapointed, this was a very well designed game.

A very meta, non-linear, fun game. A good way to kill a couple of hours, but not worth full price. It's cute and creative, but it's a walking simulator with no beginning or end (and that's the point, really). A few LOL moments. Even with the shifts in story, however, I did get bored with it after a while.

-Be me
-Got the game in Steam Summer Sale for nearly free.
-Expected a standard Portal like puzzle copy pasta
-Booted up the game
-I hear some generic narrator lay everything down for me, immediately think the game is trash
-Walk out of Stanley's office (Where you start the game)
-I come to two open doors
-The narrator tells me I walk through the door on the left
-I walk through the door on the right because reverse psychology
-I walk further until I see a door marked "broom coset"
-I open the door and go inside
-Narrator starts complaining and says I'm wasting my time
-As the narrator gives me a ♥♥♥♥ storm I go make a cup of tea
-I come back to a restarted game
-I walk back through the right door on my way to the broom closet
-I see the door to the broom closet
-The narrator has now literally nailed the door shut with planks because he was sick of my behavior

10/10 for player immersion

This is by far THE most well thought out games I've ever played. All the possibilities of how it could go are near endless. Spent hours playing it the first time just to see how much narrative I could find.

TL;DR - Overall, The Stanley Parable is a good game (different choices, different consequences, replayability, well-done narration, secrets), though considerably expensive. If you plan on buying this game, get this during steam sales. Try the demo if you want.

In this game, you walk through doors and make choices. There are many choices and secrets to explore. Each choice has their own consequences, and thus offers the player quite an amount of replayability. Also, going the wrong way has never felt so right in games other than this.
The narrator is awesome as well. Makes you randomly giggle in the room sometimes and makes people wonder what the hell this guy even is laughing at. I rate this game EIGHT. *presses 8 button*

ALSO, BROOM CLOSETS!! HAVE YOU GOT THEB ROOM CLOSET ENDING?? IT WAS MY FAVRITE1! XDDDD

If you want to get the main game but still unsure, download and try the 1GB demo. The demo delivers a short yet rich and funny experience which shows quite what the main game is like.

"This is the story of a man named Stanley. Stanley worked for a company in a big building where he was employee number 427...

Get comfortable, the endings are different but the intro will always be the same."

You play as Stanley and follow or derail a not really great story. The story is nonlinear as you listen to or disregard The Narrator.

I highly recommend this game but I really don't but The Narrator is holding me at gunpoint and I would suggest buying it but really don't because The Narrator will be after you too.

Have fun!

There once was a man named Stanley,

Who people considered so manly.

But the truth must be told,

He was not very old,

And was quite particularly gangly.

What Stanley liked most was buttons.

He pushed them like some kind of glutton.

He did it all day

In a meaningful way,

But his brain had long ceased to function.

Which is why he is in this parable,

And lives an existence quite terrible.

And if you are not strong,

And keep playing along,

You too will become quite unbearable (x2).

I would not recommend this game if you are buying it for the full price, but if it is for 80% sale you can consider it.
even though i loved the way the game played and the humor was amazing, it becomes boring pretty quick and i feel like even though there are a lot of endings some are very short.

Better wait for summer sale. Cool concept, and awesome narrator though. Unfortunately the game is extremely short, after 3 hours you've seen and heard pretty much everything (all endings and secrets). Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it as long as it lasted, but unfortunately steam only offers two buttons to rate a game, it is somewhere in between.

While the idea for the game is good, it becomes very repetitive and boring fast despite all the "alternative endings" and game cameo appearances. This game is titled "though-provoking" but you will get the idea it tries to communicate pretty fast and then it is just repeating the whole "no choice in games" thing over and over again. For somebody who prefers non-linear games, this preachiness gets annoying fast, as it is neither a revelation nor very interesting. It is thought-provoking only in the first minutes.

You know it\'s good when you want more.

PROS:
-Replayable
-Comedy
-Paradoxes and Science (i guess)
-Good Narrative
-You can die (How is that a good thing? I dunno) But you\'ll live! again.

CONS:
-It\'s short- but it\'s actually not, but it is! I dunno man just trust me on this.
-It\'s quite expensive for the original price (but only imho)
-more from this studio please
-I want dlc\'s
-please make more games like this Mr. Narrator if you\'re seeing this.

I rate this game 9/10- it\'s dancing its way to perfection. Gimme free cookies Galactic Cafe!
Is Galactic Cafe still alive? or is it Crow Crow Crow Studios now? I\'ll check out for myself i guess.

The Stanley Parable * 8/10

This is not just a common game and it's quite unique in its approach to the player.

Technically this is just a walking simulator, but it has no importance at all, because gameplay has not much to do with the game as it could have been an isometric point'n'click, a sidescrolling arcade or whatever you want. The core of the game is the way it relates and plays with the player.

As the title suggests this is a story about Stanley, an employee living a monotone life and working in an office when all of a sudden he realizes the entire floor is empty. And here the player begins the game. The real core of the gme though is the Narrator's voice, the way he describes your actions and guides you. There's a canon ending where you hear Stanley's story where he finally realizes he's free and all, but that lame and simple specious ending has nothing to do with the game itself, in my opinion. In fact you simply have to blindly follow the narrator's directions to finish it in 15 mins or so. The real point of the game is in the huge amount of variations derived by all the choices you're being presented, the Narrator's reactions breaking the 4th wall both with Stanley and the player itself more than you'd expect and the way the game evolves in multiple directions and restart in different variations, resulting more in a comedy than a parable.

The engine is the good old trusty Source Engine, and the office and other ambiences have been well built with a simple but effective level of detail.
Unfortunately there's not much music in game but it's kind of right this way, as it would break the atmosphere of the game.

+++PROs+++
  • NARRATOR. The real core of the game is not to beat the game, nor Stanley himself or his parable, but it's the narrator. It's all about the choices you make and his reactions that can drive the story to an incredible number of variations, from tragedy, to comedy at the limit of ridiculous with the narrator breaking the 4th wall not only with Stanley but with the player as well.
---CONs---
  • UNCOMMON. The unusual structure of the game might not look appealing to the most conventional players, as they could finish the game with the canon ending in 10-15 minutes not realizing that the purpose of the game lies in testing the limits of all the choices and variables and seeing the game evolve and degenerate as the narrator hilariously comments your actions and choices... Even if you're doing nothing at all! As a "traditional" gamer myself I've been lucky enough because I chose to never listen the Narrator since the very beginning (I didn't trust him XD) to finish with a sad and nonsense ending that slowly brought me back at the beginning. Since then I started trying various alternatives.

I played this game on this machine:
Laptop Lenovo Z50
Intel Core i5-4210U
8Gb RAM DDR3
GeForce 840M
Intel HD Graphics 4400
Windows 10 Home x64

And on this machine:
Intel Core i7-4970
16Gb RAM DDR3
GeForce GTX 660
Windows 10 Professional x64
