Reviews

“It's not the fact that The Stanley Parable makes you think about the nature of choice in games that makes it extraordinary. It's the fact that it does so while simultaneously managing to be a wildly entertaining, hilarious, and surprising experience.”
9/10 - Gamespot

“It's this bouncing between serious tone and irreverence that makes The Stanley Parable so special. You never know what to expect."
10/10 - Joystiq

“Where so many games that aspire to be more than games end up less than any form of art, Stanley Parable strives, and then succeeds.”
10/10 - Destructoid

“Astoundingly labyrinthine onion-like layers of narrative tangents the player can embark on in what feels like the unholy interactive offspring of Inception, Being John Malkovich and Portal.”

About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, zippity zop begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. There is only one way I can describe this game:

Trippy as ♥♥♥♥.

It will make you question everything. And that is not, by any means, a bad thing. Plus, it\'ll run fairly fine on even a potato of a computer.

This game is amazing, it is something I have never seen before.

It\'s very sweet and simple but with all sorts of complex and hilarious little anecdotes.

The narrator is fantastic, he is essentially..... The game....

It\'s kind of hard to describe this game. Just get it and love it! Play it for 20 minutes or 4 hours, it\'s definately worth it.

A really cool way to interact with the player, the game has some really changeful flow.
Not much to say,u should play the game,there\'s no good way to explain this game as well as playing, but i can say that even having simple mechanisms it really break some paradigms.
Would like more interactions that affect the flow of the game, but this game it\'s already really good at that.

Funny for couple of ours.
For me it would not be worth 12 euro\'s, but, for me, it would most surtenly be worth 2,40 euro\'s.
So I recommend to pick it up on sale so you can have a laugh for a couple of ours.
And even though you want to pick it up for 12 euro\'s, it\'s still a really funny game, it\'s just not that long.

As of when I wrote this, I have played for an hour and the narrator had restarted and quick loaded the game on me more times then I care to count and I kept going in circles after a while. Everything I did only made it worse... From there, the textures messed up on me, I saw objects that were warped, and text that was messed up. I think I broke the game... from now on, when a choice comes to me in the future, I\'ll actually make the reasonable choice and take the left door...

Very strange sort of game and has very strange sort of achivements this might appeal to some strange people, If you think it strange I keep repeating strange it is strange, although this game will make it seem less strange, It is full of strange ideas, strange games, strange doorways, strange stories and an equally strange voice telling you what to do and telling you off when you do something strange, you think you know the passage but you don\'t, how strange you think you complete the game although you strangly don\'t feel like you have, and so you try again but strangely the familliarity is there but not there, One of the strange acheivements is to not play the game for 5 years (seroiusly) but another stragne thing in this game is the emptyness of the place you are in there are loads of doors that strangly lead different places in diffent trys and strangly lead to diffent equally strange outcomes. It is a strangely unique game and enjoyable for a short while, But if you just want the get the acheivements for the game, it is probably not the best game for you, But maybe not worth the $15 but it is on sale so give it a try

This is by far one of the most fun exploration games I\'ve ever played. There isn\'t much to it, and therefore not much to learn. You simply walk around and listen to the well written (and spoken) commentary of your actions. With loads of different paths to take and alternate events along each one, the game is very re-playable. This game is worth every penny.

This game should not be spoiled so it\'s really hard to review.

What this game is not: An ARPG zombie survival roguelike MMO FPS yearly sports game with a DLC season pass.

(Some) of what this game is: Unique, interesting, genuinely funny, compelling and brimming with story.

The Stanley Parable sat in my back log for ages. I bought it because it came so highly recommended, but I didn\'t really know anything about it. I suggest you do the same (although don\'t leave it unplayed for months like I did). It will surprise you, make you laugh and maybe even touch your heart.

Very unique and highly replayable (Until you do everything, then it's not so good).
This is one of the few games I 100%ed. If you look at the achievements you might understand why I was compelled to.

It is pretty simple:

1. play the game
2. play it again
3. and again
4. asking yourself: what the heck?
5. put the adventure line theme on your mobile device as ring tone

Walk through the same office 50 times and get your mind blown each time.

Mind♥♥♥♥ery and whitty comments throughout a very inventive narrative. You really have to play it all in one session, but it only takes 2-3 hours to "complete".

a friend gameshared this with me. He didn't tell me what it was about, he just said "You'll love it." I booted the game up, and was surprised to find that:

1. It wasn't a troll game

2. I actually enjoyed this game

I sat through a couple hours of it, and found this game entertaining. I legit couldn't put the controller down. 10/10 would play a sequal if they ever make one.

The Stanley Parable is a unique "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style walking simulator, with a heavy focus on humor relating to the role of narration and the player/viewer/reader in an interactive story.

Overall I would say the game is a very enjoyable, albeit somewhat short, experience. I'd be hard-pressed to find a joke or gag that fell flat.

One word to describe this game: BRILLIANT.
The 4th wall is constantly destroyed, actually there's not even a 4th wall anymore, and you catch yourself wondering who you are at the end of it.
And the narration is amazingly performed, seriously. This is such a unique game that gives a unique experience, I definitely recommend playing it!!!

what did I just play?
was I playing at all?
am I Stanley or is Stanley me?
why a parable?
why pushing buttons?
the meaning of choices?
this is not a game this is madness and I really adore madness so this was awesome.
want action? skip this one
want a deep romantic story? skip this
truly not a conventional game, truly not really a game and yet more of a game than many games
it goes up and then down or down and then up, it is more like a parabola than a parable....

It's worth a few dollars, you'll get a laugh out of it, but the $15 regular price on here is ridiculously overpriced for the time you'll spend in game.

I didn't know anything about this game when I first loaded it up and started playing. My son had watched videos of it on Youtube and told me it was a game I had to play...and to avoid spoilers. So I bought it and took a chance.

I managed to kill myself in less than a minute...and I didn't stop laughing for at least half an hour. The voice acting is fantastic and so is the crazy, winding, bizarre story.

I absolutely love this game.

The Stanley Parable is an experimental narrative-driven first person game. It is an exploration of choice, freedom, storytelling and reality, all examined through the lens of what it means to play a video game.

- You will make a choice that does not matter

- You will follow a story that has no end

- You will play a game you cannot win

...it's actually best if you don't know anything about it before you play it...

The HD Remix of The Stanley Parable is a remodeled, remastered version of this unique title.

I think this is not even a game, but in life someone told us to give us advice, and someone wants to scourge us, he brings a very deep meaning. 10/10

There once was a man named Stanley,

Who people considered so manly.

But the truth must be told,

He was not very old,

And was quite particularly gangly.

What Stanley liked most was buttons.

He pushed them like some kind of glutton.

He did it all day

In a meaningful way,

But his brain had long ceased to function.

Which is why he is in this parable,

And lives an existence quite terrible.

And if you are not strong,

And keep playing along,

You too will become quite unbearable (x2).

A walking simulator done right. A game that's extremely aware of itself and the player, and uses its meta narrative in clever, inventive and enjoyable ways, unlike 90% of indie trash. Humor, horror, drama - it does it all and does it well. Has surprising amounts of replayability.
