About This Game

The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end. Contradiction follows contradiction, the rules of how games should work are broken, then broken again. This world was not made for you to understand.

But as you explore, slowly, meaning begins to arise, the paradoxes might start to make sense, perhaps you are powerful after all. The game is not here to fight you; it is inviting you to dance.

Based on the award-winning 2011 Source mod of the same name, The Stanley Parable returns with new content, new ideas, a fresh coat of visual paint, and the stunning voicework of Kevan Brighting. For a more complete and in-depth understanding of what The Stanley Parable is, please try out the free demo.

The Stanley Parable is a game. And in this game, things happen. Sometimes, this makes sense. Sometimes it doesn't.

Your objective is to make things happen. Sometimes. Sometimes it isn't.

Sometimes the game will end. Sometimes it won't.

Buy it. If you look it up on the internet the experience will be ruined. I recommend you buy it on sale, of course.

As the reviewer sat in front of his laptop he began to type what would come to be the dumbest review ever conceived for a game entitled The Stanley Parable.

Within this review, the reviewer would shamelessy ripoff the game's own style of comedic narration, which was not at all funny or insightful. He would also attempt to include several fourth wall breaks, none of which would be well integrated or original.

All in all, this reviewer was uncreative, as most reviewers are. He couldn't even manage to right a single decent review without mooching off the incredible style and charm the The Stanley Parable has to offer, or without referencing the hilarious ways with which the title reflects on videogame tropes and stereotypes.

Yes, it is a shame such a sorry soul must reach out to anything he can grasp in order to feel relevent on this program we all call Steam... but fear not, for he shall live on as the least awe-inspiring reviewer of the most awe-inspiring game: The Stanley Parable.

Bought this during the 2016 Fourth of July sale. This game is definitely worth the play, just for the snarky narrator alone. This game is incredibly inventive, funny, and extremely meta. It isn't a long game, but it is densely packed with choices, branches, and remarks from an irritated narrator. You can choose to follow the narrator's instructions or choose to ignore him and suffer the consequences.

However, although I did enjoy it and do not regret purchasing the game at the sale price of $3, the people praising it are slightly blowing it out of proportion. It's a minimalist walking simulator that is enjoyable for the 3-5 hours of playtime you get, but not worth at the full, original price.

A fun game, relying on a lot of meta humour to enhance the gameplay. They way in which it analyses the illusion of choice in gaming and life in general is quite interesting.

This game is what I call piece of art. I do not even think there is the possibility to write a review of such a thing, but I can say that it made me laugh and also unsettled me. This game is EVERYTHING

10/10: This is by far the best story based game I've played since Pony Island. Play this game blind and you'll surely have a wonderful experience playing and not playing as a man named Stanley.

"This is the story of a man named Stanley. Stanley worked for a company in a big building where he was employee number 427...

Get comfortable, the endings are different but the intro will always be the same."

You play as Stanley and follow or derail a not really great story. The story is nonlinear as you listen to or disregard The Narrator.

I highly recommend this game but I really don't but The Narrator is holding me at gunpoint and I would suggest buying it but really don't because The Narrator will be after you too.

Have fun!

Okay, I wrote a good review, check for yourself!

Dude, it took me forever to write this review! It's going to take me some time to get those black boxes out of there, give me a few weeks.

Dude, I've done everything you've asked me to do! Can you please put the gun down?

Please! I have family and friends that I need to get back to! I promise I won't tell anyone about this!

There once was a man named Stanley,

Who people considered so manly.

But the truth must be told,

He was not very old,

And was quite particularly gangly.

What Stanley liked most was buttons.

He pushed them like some kind of glutton.

He did it all day

In a meaningful way,

But his brain had long ceased to function.

Which is why he is in this parable,

And lives an existence quite terrible.

And if you are not strong,

And keep playing along,

You too will become quite unbearable (x2).

*Thought it was part of the game*
*Waited way to long to realize he actually broke the game*

A walking simulator done right. A game that's extremely aware of itself and the player, and uses its meta narrative in clever, inventive and enjoyable ways, unlike 90% of indie trash. Humor, horror, drama - it does it all and does it well. Has surprising amounts of replayability.

One of the few games to truly make me laugh out loud; the way the Narrator responds to your actions (or lack thereof) is just genius!
Whilst the game may be short, it is eminently replayable to discover all the different routes and endings.
Thoroughly recommended!

It's worth a few dollars, you'll get a laugh out of it, but the $15 regular price on here is ridiculously overpriced for the time you'll spend in game.

If you like snarky narrators and adequate planning for players deviating from the main path, give this one a go. The game's limited in its replayability, and by now, there are enough LPs to have seen everything. If possible, go in blind, but it's otherwise a fun game to try out. It being a sale at the time of writing, you should pick this up regardless.

Note: if, like me, you played the original mod back in the day, you'll get an even bigger kick from the game, but I would not recommend you going back to play that now. Find a video for a little extra as you explore.
