http://store.steampowered.com/app/279940/

Here is an extended gameplay presentation video which will show you a lots of information on the franchise and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNA4Wbkd_uI

As it is an Early Access version, it is even more important as usual to collect your feedback, issues, thoughts etc.
For discussion and general feedback, please use this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/279940/discussions/0/616187203927495737/

For technical issues and bugs, please use this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/279940/discussions/0/616187203927561896/

And here are the Early Access FAQs on The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 which you can also find on the product page:

Why Early Access?
“To get feedback from the community and allow the fans of the first game to play the sequel as early as possible. We want to involve the fans of the series, as well as all new fans, to help us give the game that little bit of extra-polishing. We look forward to the feedback from the players in the Steam forum.”

How long will this game be in Early Access?
“From September 4th, 2014 until the end of January 2015, with a time gap of approximately one month between each chapter.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“During the Early Access phase we will release four of the five chapters of the game, leading up to the full release of the complete game end of January 2015. The final version will be polished according to the feedback of the community, in terms of difficulty balance of the puzzles, controller-controls, as well as general polishing of animations, sounds and graphics.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Currently the first chapter is playable on PC, Mac and Linux, per mouse or controller.
Over the coming months the other chapters will be released.
Some of the extra content that was made possible through our backers on Kickstarter is not in the game yet and will be implemented via updates over time.
Though the game has already been thoroughly tested on several systems, there might still be certain compatibility or performance issues on specific configurations.
The controller-controls are still being polished, as we want to integrate the feedback of the fans here.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“We plan to have a higher price starting with the final release than now during the Early Access phase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“We started involving the fans of the series early this year with a Kickstarter campaign and after this very positive experience we want to continue the dialogue between the fans and us and get their feedback about the game in general, particularly the difficulty of puzzles and mini-games, and about the controller-based controls.”

----------This is my review account, because the low playtime.
Graphics:
+ detailed backgrounds
+ atmospheric lighting
+ cute animated animals

Atmosphere:
+ a lot of humor
+ lovable critters
+ bizarre figures

Sound:
+ first-class speakers
+ snappy title track

Balance:
+ two levels of difficulty
+ gentle introduction
- some puzzles limited logical
- sometimes trial and error

Story:
+ crazy story
+ many swipes
+ heartbreaking critter love story

Characters:
+ overall great ensemble
- but it may be a bit more extensive

Dialogs:
+ critters good implemented
+ partly raven black humor
+ well written
- but sometimes sounds constructed

Puzzles:
+ mostly logical
+ challenging puzzles
- usually only one solution
- at times absurd
- can be solved partly by accident

Game Size:
+ around 10 hours playtime
+ five acts
+ two playable protagonists
- relatively few locations
- significantly shorter than the previous

In some places, actually missing the shadows of various figures. Apparently, the developers had not enough time or resources to give the game the finishing touch. Nevertheless, the second part of the series has become a really entertaining and above all funny adventure game. Most of the puzzles is fun, the characters have endearing idiosyncrasies and the quaint fantasy world looks despite the small mistakes made really great. The dialogue is snappy and funny this time. It's still an entertaining ride overall, however, and easily recommended for any traditional adventure fan.

Score: 77 / 100

Although The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles was released later than The Book of Unwritten Tales, it's actually the prequel of the series. However, it's significantly shorter than its sequel. Nevertheless, I found its puzzles and story much better and enjoyable.

The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles is definitely not even close to a masterpiece but it's still a quite decent point-and-click game.

The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles is a fairly amusing point-and-click adventure. Much of the artwork flows like an oil painting plus the animations give it an extra level of depth and personality. It is obvious the writers and voice actors had a lot of fun in their roles. The game puts several Star Wars parodies in the storyline as well as a few references to Portal. With two characters to control it's almost like playing two stories in one.

Overall, it's a mildly funny game that doesn't get overly difficult.

I must admit, I approached this game with skepticism. I absolutely loved The Book of Unwritten Tales, but the Critter parts? Not so funny. I never really enjoyed controlling this non speaking character, always having to guess what I might be saying, after a couple of minutes I always got bored or irritated. But this spin-off (and prequel), The Criiter Chronicles? Don't ask me why, but it totally works.

The story is simple but entertaining, in this game we finally understand WHAT is Critter. Part of an alien race crashed on the planet, we have to help him and his mates get a crucial part of their ship back from the... evil, for lack of a better term, Munkus. We will also meet again some of the characters from Unwritten Tales, like Ma'zaz, discover how Critter became friend with Nate and visit many locations of the previous game. Dialogues are funny and full of pop culture references, puzzles aren't extremely hard, but a couple of moments may be really challenging if you don't pay attention to your surroundings. Plus, a Portal (as in the Valve franchise) based puzzle? Yes, please!

The Critter Chronicles is a solid game. Not extraordinary, but surely interesting and rewarding to play. Even if there are a lot of references to the previous game, it is completely possible to play one without having played the other, the two adventures are totally indipendent. Nice game.

Well. It's very better than The book of Unwritten Tales.

It has difficulty level for the riddles. You can still turn on the Show Points so you won't have pixel hunting even in HARD mode.
But the riddles are difficult enough in front of the first part of the series.
If you play the game in normal mode you 'll have more hints by the characters and you 'll miss a couple of riddles. Generally the game does NOT change much. So play it at hard anyway!

The graphics are about the same with the difference of the settings. You don't have complicated settings like AA Anisotropic or Antialiasing. You choose between smoothness and Picture quality and that's it. Well in the first part the antialising thing mattered . I had it in 8X. Here the differences are small to nothing. Try "Low" in smoothness and "Medium" in picture quality. The last one sets the textures sent to the graphic card. If set to the best it will sent uncompressed textures directly to the graphics card so even the best cards may NOT handle some scenes and you ll have glitches. You have more vivid colors but the difference is that and ONLY that. So set it to medium and enjoy the game with more earth colors. The graphics are 3D Indie so the colors are vivid enough anyway.

I wasn't amazed by the story BUT is better than the fisrt part and you have the critter to break the ice and makes you laugh. But still is better from the first. I enjoyed this game much MORE than the first one.

All the others like sounds , story , characters and more.... Come on.. You play an adventure and NOT the final episode of Call of Duty or other game to see things in Reality. We have imagination as players and all the game things are MORE than OK.

To all adventurers... Put the difficulty to Hard and FLY. You'll love it!

This game serves as a prequel to The Book of Unwritten Tales.

Pros: It appears that the developer used the same engine, so the interface is identical to the first game in the series. Beautiful backdrops, excellent animation, beautiful soundtrack, great voice acting, fun puzzles, lovable characters. They fixed the bug with inventory slow down. Steam achievements! Additional replay value with expert mode.

Cons: I LOVE having a story centered around Critter, but by the end I was quite annoyed by Critter's inability to comunicate in the common tongue.

Summary: I highly recommend both games in this series! I am also looking forward to the sequel, The Book of Unwritten Tales II.

Overall, I like the series. Critter Chronicles is fun, and reminds me of classic point click games I played as a kid. The problem with the game, and a reason I wouldn't recommend the game, is to those who have little patience for unfixed bugs. This game will crash at the Yeti cave, and the original "BoUT" had a bug where I had to load someone elses game in order to continue playing. No matter how nice the game is, unfixed bugs is a sign of bad marketing and now I cannot finish the game. So what was the point of purchasing it?

Really nice prequel to fabulous Book of Unwritten Tales. It is a bit shorter, than original game, but there are still a lot of humour.

If you like nice, logical riddles, without eye / hand coordination ones this time you will love this game.

Recommended.

Not as much fun as the first Book of Unwritten Tales, what with the fact that you only play as Critter and Nate so there are less opportunities for clever wordplay and funny references to all things geek. Still a decent game for an afternoon or two, especially if you're a fan of the first TBoUT. Doesn't advance the story in the least (everything actually takes place before Nate meets Ivo and Wilbur) so you can play it or skip it, whatever.

These guys just gets it. After playing so many "meh" adventures, and i'm an adventuregame lover, my favorites the last years is the "Book of unwritten tales" games. They do the pop culture thing soo right, and the humour is great, which others do alot in an excessive forced way, like Sam & Max, even though i like those one too. Graphics are great, voicing are great. This one, after just 20 mins after playing, i knew it was a GREAT adventure game. Really recommended it for adventurelovers.

This game has so much charm that i barely know where to start. If you're a fan of point and click games, you will most likely enjoy this. It's fairly short and i have already reached the fourth chapter, but its fun nonetheless. It has really twisted my brain at points trying to figure out how to advance, maybe due to lack of sleep, but its still great. I always love a challenge anyways. But i guess you would have to play it yourself to see how great it is. \\ I also have a sort of head-canon with Nate and Kate Walker from Syberia/Syberia 2.

A terrific humorous adventure, with graphics sort of like finely detailed blown glass (though they do look considerably coarser when zoomed in, which isn't often). The puzzles are quite a bit harder than the original Book of Unwritten Tales (which is welcome since it was a tad too easy), but this one has the same great writing and humor that made the first game so dang lovable. Critter Chronicles is a lot shorter, though, but that's to be expected since it is more of a side story than a full game.

If you liked The Book of Unwritten Tales and want to know about Critter's past - play this game too. It's shorter, smaller, almost all the game takes place in the same location. But it's still fun. Probably would not recommend for those who didn't played the original game.
