The Cave venter.

I loved this game--this is everything I think a platformer should be. It's quirky, with unusual puzzles that are the right blend of tricky, but not unduly difficult. If you pay close attention to your environment you can solve all the puzzles with ease, but they do take some observation.

There are seven characters to choose from and you play three (why oh why game developers didn't you make 6 or 9 for two or three distinct playthroughs?) and you'll work through each of their individual stories. This game took me roughly four hours to complete a single playthrough and it looked something like this: Opening puzzles, character story, puzzle A, character story, puzzle B, character story, puzzle C, ending. My assumption is that puzzles A,B,C will remain the same for each playthrough, and only the character stories will change depending on which character you choose. I also don't get the impression that you can CHANGE how the character stories end--I think you're firmly on the rails here but that okay with me because that's how this particular game was built.

This game is the cotton candy at a state fair. Are you proud that you've finished it? Eh, not really. But damn it was good while it lasted.

Don't be fooled by that co-op tag, this game is NOT co-op in any enjoyable way. Unless you enjoy watching your friend do complicated, drawn-out puzzles for 20 minutes then do not play this game with others. There is no split-screen or way to view your character while your friend plays theirs, you can only view one at a time. During certain parts of the game it forces you to play a single character for an entire level, leaving any friends you might be playing with to sit and be forced to watch you try and figure it out for the entire duration.

The levels are also unnecessarily big for what they need to be, leaving you to run around up and down ladders and ropes just to extend the play time. This game might be enjoyable by yourself if you like running/climbing simulators, but I didn't find anything enjoyable about it at all. I'm glad I bought it on sale and it's definitely not worth the standard price.

The Cave is a game for those with a great sense of humor.
Choose 3 among 7 characters, each one has a story, level and special power of their own. Solve each of the puzzles and find out the truth in their hearts, as the Cave would say. Yes, the Cave narrates the entire game (D-d-don't laugh! It makes dating hell.).
While you get surprised (or not) with each part of the rich story revealed in each level, laugh at the commentaries made by The Cave and the way out of the dangers to you and your fellow companions.

Certainly not a AAA title but the price really pays out the fun. Definitely worth it.

Point and click?
How about all of the above?

It is a combination of all of these so that certainly makes it "different" sort of game ---- but there is some fun to be had here, if you can tolerate the rather slow pace (due mostly to a ton of backtracking).
Kind of slow getting started, but you pick your three characters from the seven offered (each with a different story), and off you go to various parts of the cave itself. And the cave is beautiful, and fun to explore. Some of the puzzles are super easy, others not so much. But even though the pacing is slow, the game itself looks like it will be short. The replay value is good though ---- just choose different characters for each playthrough. And with all the slow walking and backtracking, that kind of pads out the game length. I guess I just expected more, because I kept waiting for the pace to pick up, but it didn't.

So I'm glad I got it on sale, and that's how I'll recommend the game with some reservation ---- 75% off only, I would think.

A quirky puzzle-platformer by Double Fine. The Cave was for me, thorougly enjoyable (I played it with a controller). The game has a lovely art style and a good control-scheme. Gameplay-wise each character has their own little story, with them being combined depending on who you choose, it is well worth replaying to see each characters story!

And I know some will want to know about the 30FPS lock. So I'll be honest, I couldn't notice it that much, and I've been someone who is heavily towards the "60FPS or GTFO" camp. I suppose I was ill when I played this game, which may have affected things, but either way I don't feel the 30FPS lock on this should put you off.

Well worth the purchase, even at full price!
