Windborne Signs, Ladders, and Launchers Update, 7/22/2014

  • New features:
    • New Climbable (vines, ladders)
    • New Launcher (you can shift-click it in gather mode to switch between various directions)
    • New Signs (Iconic Standing Sign, Iconic Wall Sign, Iconic Floor Sign, Standing Sign, Floor Sign, Hanging Sign)
      • Activate normal signs to write text on them. Click in the text box to write on the sign.
      • Shift-click iconic signs to go through the icons
    • You can turn on auto-gather in settings. This makes it so you continually gather in gather mode without holding down the right mouse button.
  • Misc fixes/polish:
    • UI Consistency update (buttons, scrollbars, etc)
    • Fly-to-player no longer teleports you inside the target player
    • Physics is now turned off for plants, ladders, etc. You can place these even if standing in the block.
    • Wall and brick blocks are much more efficient (they hide geometry that is obscured). This is retroactive.
    • Hand auto-hide is less annoying
  • Bug fixes:
    • Many crash fixes
    • Pets tamed as a client no longer act like they belong to the host
    • Malik/Ferals only take one block from item stacks (you won’t lose all your gold in one swoop)
    • Music volume setting is less sensitive
    • Player/Character loading is more safe and tries to handle/recover corrupted characters
    • Some broken UI crafting filters were fixed

Bug Fixes Patch (5/30/14)

Hi, everyone! Echo here (posted by Nerdmaid). It's been just over a week since we released the World Traveler, and I thought I'd take some time to talk about where we're going next.

This patch which addresses some minor bugs that we missed in the update, as well as a recovery tool which should help those who are in the middle of a save when the power goes out (It happens more frequently than you’d guess). I’d like to thank everyone for the feedback and reports – they help us a lot, and we go through every one of them.

Now we’re going to start focusing on our next update, which means that we probably won’t update the game for another 5-6 weeks, but we still have a lot of things going on:

Windborne brings social sandbox creation games to the next level. Explore a vibrant world filled with secrets to unlock and treasures to find, craft personalized furnishings and innovative artifacts, and befriend intriguing Jin to help build a new civilization. Will you seek out the clues and artifacts of the ancients, or just loot passing islands for minerals and rare plants? Bring along your friends while you play, and share your creations with the world. Where will the wind take you? Windborne is set to release in late 2014. It is being developed and self-published by Hidden Path Entertainment, Inc.

Game Play Features Currently In Early Access

  • Exploring – Explore an infinite number of islands, each full of wonder and surprise.
  • Building – With a wide variety of building materials, furnishings, and artifacts, you can build whatever you can imagine
  • Jin – Make new friends by trading with the native Jin
  • Quests – Basic quest system gives you a guided tour of Windborne, with rewards for each completion.
  • Multiplayer – Play and build with your friends!
  • Crafting – Learn to make almost 200 different blocks

Game Play Features Coming At A Later Date

  • Guiding – Guide the Jin to civilization by defending them, building homes for them, and teaching them, and they will help you in return.
  • Exploring - Explore millions of ruins filled with puzzles and treasure.
  • Community – See other islands floating by, and visit them to trade with their owners. Join your friends and help them build their town.
  • Dragons – Breed dragonlings to unlock special abilities, including the ability to fly!
  • Combat – Defeat enemies that are encroaching on your island, or try assaulting a copy of your friend’s island to test its defenses.
  • Quests – Pick and choose quests to give you optional challenges that net big rewards.

I have only delved into it a bit, but so far it is fun and I see ALOT of potential.

You dont use a pickaxe or shovel, but rather magic (through your hand) to dig/place blocks. I believe they will eventually allow you to craft items of power that will go on your character (like an rpg) that will allow you to "dig" faster, etc. It certainly looks like it has the potential to use magic on enemies (whenever enemies are introduced) instead of a sword or blaster. I personally like this and have not seen a sandbox crafting game that really allows magic as its main formula.

The game also allows "Quality Crafting" So instead of getting that iron bar (like Minecraft) every single time, you get one of three options: iron bar, superb iron bar, or exceptional iron bar (I forget the exact names and the higher the quality the less of a chance you will get one). This also works with blocks as well. So when you are crafting marble blocks from raw marble you are going to get 3 different kinds of marble, each with their own color and look. A higher quality block will look like it has more blocks that compose it so you get a greater quality of detail when you get the rarer items.

The potential is mind-blowing when you consider all the unique items you can get. The amount of detail will be unsurpassed, I believe.

Also there are adorable flying baby sheep that you can harvest wool from. What's not to love?

If you don't want to buy it right away, definately keep an eye on it! It should be a great building game!

I've always been the casual gamer, that dig in deep when I actually find something I like. I found another game a while back that kept me building for 300 hours. Well, with that said. Windborne, will keep me building far longer! alpha? sure you have the occasional invisibillity factor, were everything you've built seems gone, IT IS NOT GONE :) just save world and relog. Takes no longer then 10 sec. It feels done. Like everything good from minecraft inside a game for this generation. I'm no reviewer, I'm a gamer - And its time for some WIndborne!

Early Access Review
As I was scrolling through facebook this morning I noticed that this was added as early access. It immediately sounded interesting and I clicked right away to the steam store. I flipped through a couple of images and skimmed through the description. As I usually do I also went straight to youtube to find some gameplay. I watched only 2 minutes of a video I found and purchased it straight away and oh boy am I glad I did. So far this game is a joy! In it's current state it is just a simple gather blocks and create whatever you want. It sounds like they have much more planned for the future though and I am very excited to see what comes of it. The game is very colorful and vibrant. If you're into sandbox games you should pick this one up!

I bought this game for myself but the moment my 7-year old son, who is an avid Minecrafter, saw it he fell in love with it. He just about shoved me away from the keyboard and started playing it with very little coaching from me. He's now been playing for 3 hours straight on my laptop and loving it.

So, if my 7 year old can play it, I think anyone can!

Great graphics, easy interface, and a lot of potential in regards to what you can do and build. You can only make a small island right now but I'm sure this will change as time progresses and they make more improvements.

Two things I had issues with:
I wish that each island you made had a different inventory. Right now, if you create a new island, you carry all of your tools and inventory over to it. This makes this game unsharable between different people on the same computer. My son had access to all of the stuff I had acquired while playing on my island and blew through most of it. Guess I'll be starting over....

The other thing is that files for this game do not yet sync across Steam, so if you're playing on one computer and then move to another, you won't have access to your world on the first computer. Hoping that gets fixed soon since I move between computers a lot.

Otherwise, my son and I are both loving this game. Can't wait to see what they add to it over the next few months!

My Impression for the first hours: Windborne is beautiful little sandbox game with high potential. You name your island, name the seed and then you start at a generat point of it. The quests guide you through the start and learn you how you can craft more an more stuff, which you can use to create your own house. Even though some features are not implemented you got plenty of stuff to do. In my opinion it's like a better version of minecraft with beautiful graphics and a wonderful soundtrack.

If you don't like the looks of minecraft, but sandbox-gameplay you should try this game, i'm sure you will love it.
