Hva utviklerne har å si:

“I don't think I've ever been so giddy working on a project. I find myself just grinning at the screen instead of actually working on the game, wandering around the world watching our creatures or exploring the cool things that the procedural system made. Our vision with Windborne is both simple and enormously complex at the same time. We want to make a Miyazaki-style Disneyland of creative sandbox worlds- an infinite number of dense, exciting islands to explore with your friends, full of high adventure, where it's up to you to decide what to do. Inspired by games such as Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, and the early Zeldas, expect more features to be added and finessed as we move closer to launch.”

i wish i could recomend this game but at this time i can not because i have the feeling that it has been abandoned. been a year now since its release and i dont remember ever seeing 1 patch for it ever yet. its a great minecraft like game. its very beautiful and has a great crafting system. i still find the game very fun for what it is but it still needs alot more added to it and atm i have a feeling that is never gonna happen. for its price its just not worth it at all atm.

Don't buy

It's a unfinished abandoned overpriced turd.

Bottom line

They seem to have had a good concept and presentation but took the totally has-to-fail wrong approach for Early Access,
They used Early Access to fund the project and core development, yes, you heard right.
Why haven't they made a real Kickstarter you ask? Early Access is/was the Kickstarter.

Is Early Access a replacement for it? Well, when taking a look at how it failed, i would say probably not. Early Access has nothing to do with project funding.

With Defense Grid they had pure luck, it was a self-funded inhouse publication, that had a decent success attached to it. And they thought they could do it with Windborne again and they could make fastillion of sold copies on Steam that fund the project and core development at the same time.

The reality is that Defense Grid 2 development probably took a lot of resources and manpower and it's actually a kickstarted project, maybe more than HPE had at any time. But it doesn't matter for Windborne as it's a different game and project.

The problem with this particular game is that it's simply not worth the money HPE asks for for the content it offers in return and in it's current shape and form. Core game isn't worth it, DLC isn't worth it either.

After many months of radio silence, ETA's, HPE finally let the bomb explode and told the community that they don't have the money and manpower to keep a decent update pace but released Defense Grid 2 in the meantime with total radio silence for several months in the Windborne Community before, besides minor stuff to string us along until DG2 is out. They knew pretty well that Windborne was literally the black sheep long before DG2 was released and covered that with silence or Pseudo-ETA's never met.

The game may get 1 update in 1 year, like 1 update every year, please don't laugh now, they are pretty serious about it.

Bottom bottom line

Windborne got DoubleFine'd.

If you want to see Windborne finished, come back in 100 years or more (you can ask your great-grandchild(s) too to take care of it then in case time passed by too fast and you won't make it there yourself).

Personally, i will skip and don't buy any game from HPE anymore until i see this game moving forward.

There is no reason to buy into it now, not for the current price and not for a discount.

I will put it this way, I bought the game the day it came out. I even have Order of the Dragon but it's not like that really means anything. The game is a good game, the game had plenty of promises however HPE are not going to keep them.
We who bought the game early were lead to believe that once a month and some change that there would be new content and updates. We who bought Membership were lead to believe that we would get a special item or two with every update. However we were lead on by HPE and the game has since been abandoned.

The game is a GREAT game, with plenty of potential. However this great game, is an abandoned game. Just buy minecraft instead.

I was looking for a replacement for minecraft. This is not it. I stop playing Minecraft because i got bored with it and with this game that bordom did not get releaved. The "new" fealing keeps it interesting for a bit, but than its more of the same. I also don't see any updates making it much more than a Minecraft clone with better grafics.

Not updated in ages, which is a shame as i really like this game.

If your looking to kill a few hours and have money to burn go ahead, otherwise don't bother as this game isn't going anywhere fast.

Truly beautiful game that had so much potential. I'm still holding out hopes, but it seems this game has been completely abandoned by the developers. The developer that emailed me back about a year ago when it was more actively being developed did not respond when I messaged him a few days ago.

If you enjoy world exploration for just crafting/mining, then this is a solid game still. If you want any more substance beyond that, unfortunatly, go play something else.

Very depressed over this. :(

I was originally brought here via RoosterTeeth with the promise of a decent game. I was so excited to explore and see what all this game had to offer. I found nothing. Updates, where? Content, where? Where are the devs? This saddens me because the game had so much potential! :c

Here is a link to the CEO's AMA he did on 1/9/2015. He basically admits that they used early access to gauge peoples interest in the game and have since cut back the team to an unknown number. Doesn't sound good. Wish I knew my money wasn't being taken seriously before I gave it to them.

Stay away!

The game "looks" cool, the concept is good...it's just abandoned is all.

The last update was on 7/22/14...over 5 months ago. The developers are nearly silent in the forum.

These are the same guys who created Defense Grid 2, and it looks like they are now spending their time and energy there instead of this concept.

The game is indeed fun for a few hours, but there's little to do in this unfinished, alpha game. It definitely is not worth the $30 price tag.

Wait until the game sees some movement from the devs or perhaps pick it up when it drops to a more reasonable price for what there is to do in the game ($10 or so).

Well I was super excited for this game. It had a nice rpg and magic twist to it. Felt nice, was nice, kept me busy a while and I loved having objects in the game. I also loved the fact that objects could auto connect and it's placement. I loved that you didn't need to be infront of a wiki for it because it taught you how to play through an extensive tutorial and what you could and couldn't craft. I loved the concept and the idea. It's look was amazing and fresh. It felt fun playing it. These guys truly have a unique and stylish way to make their games. Their work shows. They could of at least come out and offer some closure or some sort of status update on this project. I am certainly a fan of their art work and style regardless of their current progress.

However I have to change my review because its been nearly 7 months and nothing has really been done. It feels as if the devs are too busy working on other games they currently own. I will keep tabs on it because I really did enjoy it for awhile. Defense Grid 2 is eating up all of their time. Obviously they will work on what is more profitable for them. Both of these games are by "hidden path entertainment". http://store.steampowered.com/app/221540/

Probably because they have more help and money with it as it is not just like this game where they are putting it out themselves. Looks like "505 games" published their defense grid 2 game. On their other game, it looks like financially they are better since they have more help. However it is a shame because this game could of been something different to sandbox games and it had far less limitations for those creative people out there.

I do NOT feel cheated for what I paid for it because I felt the game was really fairly priced for their idea and their work they had put into it when this came to early access. Not ruling out "hidden path entertainment" as of yet even though I will not be buying their defense grid 2 because I am NOT into those types of games. Still hoping for a come back on this game. It was truly unique. They are not a fraud or lazy. Their passion and work shows on their projects. I was also looking forward to their island defense system which never came either.

I suggest just keeping tabs on it if you are interested but it looks and feels as if it might end up being a dead end project so don't purchase it just yet. :)

EDIT & UPDATE: 01-16-15, Friday.
So here is the latest from the steam community. The CEO of windborne came out and said on reddit what was going on and finally provided an excuse as to what is going on with thier early access game of windborne. http://steamcommunity.com/app/221560/discussions/0/616198623982526955/

The fans read it and quickly alerted the steam users who bought the game through steam since they were not willing to update steam as per their sales first. The reddit post can be read here: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2rvl91/i_am_jeff_pobst_ceo_of_hidden_path_entertainment/

Updates will be done to the game yearly. As I predicted, it lacks investors and their defense grid 2 game has them. They will be doing what is profitable to them which is understandable. While others consider this game done, I have hope they will revive it if maybe they had financial backing. This made some steam users upset and others who wanted to buy the game, quickly changed their mind. This is just adding on to early access frustration of gamers that are being even more cautious now about when to spend their money for early access steam games.

Captain Kaboom who we saw show-casing the game recently on twitch along with their defense grid 2 game, has stated that today is her last day at HiddenPath Entertainment. That can be read here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221560/discussions/0/616199347850210316/ Captain Kaboom will be missed.

Seems like there is some in house drama going on that is leading to more of their skeleton crew crisis for their products / projects. The issue now is the advertisement and what they said they will include in the game such as their pvp defense island verses island feature and several other features that may actually never even make it. The CEO was sure to state his background history with employment but it was a bit irrelevant to the current matter as no updates were given within 7 to 8 months. They will certaining need to revise their promises or what is offered for that game so that it markets properly due to their current financial state with the game.

In addition, I wish game devs realized that they should have some responsiblity with a game they claim to be working on when they quickly take the consumers funds and then back out of their deal. The other thing they need to realize is that if you don't do what you say you were going to do, your reputation will follow you & your fans will remember you. Last but not least, it is hurting early access devs with their products when you run into so many games that never get seen to completition. Early access is a BUYER'S BEWARE MARKET. Remember to gamble at your own risk.

With that being said, the game devs should also not take their fans for granted. Word of mouth is a scary thing that can backfire. Devs needs to know that they should be careful and a bit more considerate of their market. After all no one has forced them to make a game & market it to gamers who would of never even missed a game they didn't try or like, if they didn't know existed to begin with. No one is making them at gun point, sit for countless hours and make a game. They offer it all on their own. Many of these game devs are saying there is no money to keep funding the game, but they knew what they were getting into when they picked how to market their game and who to offer it too. I am certainly not upset about it because is always to be expected with these early access games. For this reason I do not recommend any game that feels semi-abandoned as a product and project to anyone. If anything don't be mad at the game devs that can take potentially take off with your money. Instead wonder or question steam's policies in these matters.

When I purchased this game I knew it wasn't going to be complete, and I must admit it looks fantastic and runs smoothly. Yet 9 months later and it seems to be in basically the same place except there is dlc for sale. You want me to spend more money? Maybe you should finish the incomplete game game I purchased at $30 first. I've lost confidence, patience, and interest in this company and it's game. Maybe one day this game will be amazing but at this point I'm so disenchanted that I couldn't care less if it did.

Feeling a little burned by this company and the company which participated in your promotional campaign. It was obvious after a few days that they didn't actually like this game and were just making a buck from you. Then you guys went dark and I felt like you were just making a buck from me...needless to say I'm not pleased with either of your companies and you guys are definitely not out of the dark yet.

I'm hoping to see this little gem get the treatment it deserves. But the damage is done and I'm certainly not buying anything else from you guys until some of this shady business is cleared up. A post about how you are most definitely working is great and all but...prove it.

Game is charming but novelty bonus only holds up so long. This is not Minecraft with better graphics because the minecraft devs deliver time and again.
Usually someone says: you underestimate time spans in game developement. Nonsense you can tell by the increments if something is in the making. There is a large team here, there is a huge pot of money when asking 28€ for the game and 14€ more for a useless DLC so there is more to be expected than some new objects to craft every month like all the missing gameplay elements which read "coming soon" for example.
Consider Terraria, content and asking price, you'll understand. Consider Minecraft.

A shame since the world was so rich and promising but like Peter Molyneux the team isn't up to deliver it.

Look. I had some fun with this. It has nice music. The terrain shaping tools are better than most of these games. The ability to select alternate forms of items like furniture is a good feature.

You can run around for a couple of hundred hours gathering and building stuff. It is pretty.

But, it's a toy. The game portion never materialized. There is no interaction with the Jin. You cannot "help build a new civilization." The optional combat never materalized.

The multiplayer is crippled. If one other player joins your island, you lag severely. If two join, you probably crash.

The devs disappear for months and then drop a post into the forums with essentially no content. HPE says that they have scaled back the team, however, considering the illusive nature of the communication that has existed over the past eight months or so, I would not be surprised if it has been scaled back to zero.

They say that there was a lack of sales.

They had no sales. Their game is not finished. They had preorders with alpha access.

Early Access is not Kickstarter.
