Windborne Signs, Ladders, and Launchers Update, 7/22/2014

  • New features:
    • New Climbable (vines, ladders)
    • New Launcher (you can shift-click it in gather mode to switch between various directions)
    • New Signs (Iconic Standing Sign, Iconic Wall Sign, Iconic Floor Sign, Standing Sign, Floor Sign, Hanging Sign)
      • Activate normal signs to write text on them. Click in the text box to write on the sign.
      • Shift-click iconic signs to go through the icons
    • You can turn on auto-gather in settings. This makes it so you continually gather in gather mode without holding down the right mouse button.
  • Misc fixes/polish:
    • UI Consistency update (buttons, scrollbars, etc)
    • Fly-to-player no longer teleports you inside the target player
    • Physics is now turned off for plants, ladders, etc. You can place these even if standing in the block.
    • Wall and brick blocks are much more efficient (they hide geometry that is obscured). This is retroactive.
    • Hand auto-hide is less annoying
  • Bug fixes:
    • Many crash fixes
    • Pets tamed as a client no longer act like they belong to the host
    • Malik/Ferals only take one block from item stacks (you won’t lose all your gold in one swoop)
    • Music volume setting is less sensitive
    • Player/Character loading is more safe and tries to handle/recover corrupted characters
    • Some broken UI crafting filters were fixed

Bug Fixes Patch (5/30/14)

Hi, everyone! Echo here (posted by Nerdmaid). It's been just over a week since we released the World Traveler, and I thought I'd take some time to talk about where we're going next.

This patch which addresses some minor bugs that we missed in the update, as well as a recovery tool which should help those who are in the middle of a save when the power goes out (It happens more frequently than you’d guess). I’d like to thank everyone for the feedback and reports – they help us a lot, and we go through every one of them.

Now we’re going to start focusing on our next update, which means that we probably won’t update the game for another 5-6 weeks, but we still have a lot of things going on:

Windborne brings social sandbox creation games to the next level. Explore a vibrant world filled with secrets to unlock and treasures to find, craft personalized furnishings and innovative artifacts, and befriend intriguing Jin to help build a new civilization. Will you seek out the clues and artifacts of the ancients, or just loot passing islands for minerals and rare plants? Bring along your friends while you play, and share your creations with the world. Where will the wind take you? Windborne is set to release in late 2014. It is being developed and self-published by Hidden Path Entertainment, Inc.

Game Play Features Currently In Early Access

  • Exploring – Explore an infinite number of islands, each full of wonder and surprise.
  • Building – With a wide variety of building materials, furnishings, and artifacts, you can build whatever you can imagine
  • Jin – Make new friends by trading with the native Jin
  • Quests – Basic quest system gives you a guided tour of Windborne, with rewards for each completion.
  • Multiplayer – Play and build with your friends!
  • Crafting – Learn to make almost 200 different blocks

Game Play Features Coming At A Later Date

  • Guiding – Guide the Jin to civilization by defending them, building homes for them, and teaching them, and they will help you in return.
  • Exploring - Explore millions of ruins filled with puzzles and treasure.
  • Community – See other islands floating by, and visit them to trade with their owners. Join your friends and help them build their town.
  • Dragons – Breed dragonlings to unlock special abilities, including the ability to fly!
  • Combat – Defeat enemies that are encroaching on your island, or try assaulting a copy of your friend’s island to test its defenses.
  • Quests – Pick and choose quests to give you optional challenges that net big rewards.

Vorab: Ich würde gerne ein "unentschieden" Button wählen und nicht "Nein". Wieso? Das Spiel hat ordentliches Potential, es macht durchaus Spass, aber irgendwie fehlt der Sinn.

Ich meine, man baut Steine ab, findet rezepte und kann was bauen, okay. Aber wieso? Bei anderen Spielen muss ich wenigstens überleben. Hier geht es nur um das reine Rezepte finden und was bauen, Ich denke das perfekte Spiel für Die Sims Fans.

While this is not the most engaging game of the genre mix, it is very nicely put together and extremely stable. These guys know how to make Early Access seem like a good thing amidst a lot of other companies. I would recommend this game, but for the price it is not worth it. There are several other world builders with many more features, purposes, and functionality for a lower cost. There are two that I can think of are also early access and equivalent on graphics, have a lot more entertainment value, and functionality.

Pros:
Stable
Nice graphics
Nice music
Smooth animations
A very helpful tutorial
Constant positive interaction with team

Cons:
Not much to do
No combat or real purpose
Simplistic gamplay
Simplistic recipies and components
No storyline
No penalties
No challenge
Nothing new
Very repetitive

Too much to say about such an amazing game!

I bought it the evening of June 1st, and as of June 19th I have OVER 200 hours of game play logged...

Take Minecraft, Legend Of Zelda & Animal Crossings and you KIND of have this game, Community is GREAT, and are pretty much all very helpful, the devs REALLY listen and interact with the community, even for the game being early access there is a LOT to see and do in the game (hence my 200+ hours lol)

One of the cool things in the game is the ability to REALLY teraform your environment, so you don't just have a square block world, the graphics are light and really easy to look at (esp the skies!!) crafting is easy, and gets faster the more you craft each item, at the time of writing this there are 247 crafting recipes to learn, 56 quests, and 3 types of pets (4 if you buy the Order Of The Dragon Package) and unlimited islands for you to create, explore, build, mine etc.

I highly recommend picking up this game, you'll be glad you do!

I recommend you this game, and I publicly whine because my GTX 260 can't run it smoothly. :-(

I've never played minecraft, so all I can say is that this game is tons prettier than the game I see my niece playing on the 360. There, comparison out of the way.

I really, really enjoy this game, even in its currently raw and unfinished state. The islands you can generate are very pretty, and I like how easy it is to share the seeds of your favorite worlds either for resources or just to share a great set of biomes.
The developers are really involved with the community, which is pretty cool. Steam discussions, bug reports, build challenges and weekly streams, these devs are all over the place.
The item sets are all good looking, and fit well within themselves, and you can make some really impressive stuff, if you want to put the time in. Honestly, being able to visit other people's islands is almost depressing. I was pretty happy with my house until I saw some of the stuff other people were making. :S
I dig this game for what it is, and I'm looking forward to where it goes. Updates aren't super frequent, but when they come, they're hefty, so I'll try to update this after the next one, should be a month and a bit.

Absolut empfehlenswertes Spiel, wenngleich es sich noch in der Alpha befindet.
Man kann wirklich sehr viele Sachen bereits craften die später sicherlich noch von Wert sein werden.

Die Welt ist imgrunde ähnlich wie Minecraft, allerdings gibt es "runde" Ecken. Ähnliche Spiele hinterlassen beim Abbauen leider keinen Würfel im Boden, sodaß man dort durch erweitern der Fläche anständig bauen könnte.

Hier kann man super eine Fläche zum Bauen erstellen.
Als Baumaterialien dienen die einfach abgebauten oder die hergestellten.

Das Spiel ist auf Basis von Freundlichkeit aufgebaut. Mag an mancher Stelle etwas seltsam rüberkommen, aber dass es keine Waffen gibt, find ich bis jetzt in sofern schonmal gut, daß kein Kleinkind später auf die Idee kommen kann, einen beim Abbauen etc. einfach mal eben umzuhauen, nur weil er's "kann".

Befremdlich ist es, was das Farmen von Wolle angeht. Man tötet die Schafe nicht einfach um an die Wolle zu kommen, oder benutzt eine Schere, nein, man spricht das Schaf quasi an und bittet es um die Wolle, die man dann auch prompt bekommt.


Alles in Allem hat das Spiel durchaus Potential, das Lernsystem ist fast gut durchdacht, wenn man etwas oft genug abgebaut hat, kann man es auch herstellen, mit anderen Materialien z.B.


Fazit:
Die Grundversion des Spiels ist bereits in der Alpha auf jeden Fall ein Hingucker Wert.
Wenngleich ich den Preis, dafür daß es "nur" ne Alpha ist und man nicht weis, ob das Spiel tatsächlich das Endstadium erreichen wird, etwas überteuert finde.

Preismodell überdenken ?
Da hatte Notch mit Minecraft ein weitaus besseres Preissystem, der je nach Fortschritt des Spiels den Preis erhöhte, jedoch nie über 20 Euro kam, obwohl das Spiel stetig ver...ändert wird.

Sollte sich der Preis nach unten senken, wäre es durchaus eine positive Geste, den Spielern, die bereits den überteuerten Preis bezahlt haben, eine entsprechende Gegenleistung zu erbringen, indem Diese eine oder zwei weitere Kopien des Spiels in ihr Steam-Inventar bekämen.
Das würde auch die Anzahl der Spieler und damit auch die Anzahl der Käufer erhöhen, denn je mehr das spielen, umso mehr Mundpropaganda wird gemacht. Billige Werbung, die Geld bringt, stattkostet.
