O que os desenvolvedores têm a dizer:

“I don't think I've ever been so giddy working on a project. I find myself just grinning at the screen instead of actually working on the game, wandering around the world watching our creatures or exploring the cool things that the procedural system made. Our vision with Windborne is both simple and enormously complex at the same time. We want to make a Miyazaki-style Disneyland of creative sandbox worlds- an infinite number of dense, exciting islands to explore with your friends, full of high adventure, where it's up to you to decide what to do. Inspired by games such as Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, and the early Zeldas, expect more features to be added and finessed as we move closer to launch.”

Was a cash grab. They abused the early access model to find out if they could make enough money on this, and when it didn't sell as much as they wanted they abandoned the project. I am beyond ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at how unprofessional a studio that I used to respect has been in handling this, and frankly I am surprised that there has not been consequenses from Valve, for the blatant abuse of the early access model.

I do not appreciate being outright scammed.

The game is incomplete and unlikely to ever be finished. The developers stated they would only update once a year. Because of that update it cannot be considered fraud.

I have to say that this game had or possibly still has potential, but as it stands right now, updates are few and in-between due to cuts within the company system. It is similar to minecraft but at the same time has its own twist, in fact, I would rather think the AI base would have been the main key to keeping this game afloat. However, its been months now, nothing big has happened with this game, and the price they ask for, RIDICULOUS! It is basically fraud, because they are still marketing a game that will possibly never be completed (not by them atleast), and on top of that, a game that is not complete. Honestly, if they don't have the team nor the budget to support production, then sell it out to somebody who can, if they can even find a buyer who will take an incomplete game... In conclusion, don't get this game, not at this time atleast.

Devs have abandoned this game, no updates for 7 months and no communication. As has been noted before by others the devs have even said publicly it is dead and lied about the funding and updates and continue to do so. Valve should be ashamed that this fraud is still listed on their store, and so should the Devs.

DO NOT BUY.

Valve needs to take this game off the store. Valve should also be held responsible for the amount of abuse they're subjecting their clients too. Half arsed games need to stop being rewarded.

Here is a link to the CEO's AMA he did on 1/9/2015. He basically admits that they used early access to gauge peoples interest in the game and have since cut back the team to an unknown number. Doesn't sound good. Wish I knew my money wasn't being taken seriously before I gave it to them.

Stay away!

The game "looks" cool, the concept is good...it's just abandoned is all.

The last update was on 7/22/14...over 5 months ago. The developers are nearly silent in the forum.

These are the same guys who created Defense Grid 2, and it looks like they are now spending their time and energy there instead of this concept.

The game is indeed fun for a few hours, but there's little to do in this unfinished, alpha game. It definitely is not worth the $30 price tag.

Wait until the game sees some movement from the devs or perhaps pick it up when it drops to a more reasonable price for what there is to do in the game ($10 or so).

Well I was super excited for this game. It had a nice rpg and magic twist to it. Felt nice, was nice, kept me busy a while and I loved having objects in the game. I also loved the fact that objects could auto connect and it's placement. I loved that you didn't need to be infront of a wiki for it because it taught you how to play through an extensive tutorial and what you could and couldn't craft. I loved the concept and the idea. It's look was amazing and fresh. It felt fun playing it. These guys truly have a unique and stylish way to make their games. Their work shows. They could of at least come out and offer some closure or some sort of status update on this project. I am certainly a fan of their art work and style regardless of their current progress.

However I have to change my review because its been nearly 7 months and nothing has really been done. It feels as if the devs are too busy working on other games they currently own. I will keep tabs on it because I really did enjoy it for awhile. Defense Grid 2 is eating up all of their time. Obviously they will work on what is more profitable for them. Both of these games are by "hidden path entertainment". http://store.steampowered.com/app/221540/

Probably because they have more help and money with it as it is not just like this game where they are putting it out themselves. Looks like "505 games" published their defense grid 2 game. On their other game, it looks like financially they are better since they have more help. However it is a shame because this game could of been something different to sandbox games and it had far less limitations for those creative people out there.

I do NOT feel cheated for what I paid for it because I felt the game was really fairly priced for their idea and their work they had put into it when this came to early access. Not ruling out "hidden path entertainment" as of yet even though I will not be buying their defense grid 2 because I am NOT into those types of games. Still hoping for a come back on this game. It was truly unique. They are not a fraud or lazy. Their passion and work shows on their projects. I was also looking forward to their island defense system which never came either.

I suggest just keeping tabs on it if you are interested but it looks and feels as if it might end up being a dead end project so don't purchase it just yet. :)

EDIT & UPDATE: 01-16-15, Friday.
So here is the latest from the steam community. The CEO of windborne came out and said on reddit what was going on and finally provided an excuse as to what is going on with thier early access game of windborne. http://steamcommunity.com/app/221560/discussions/0/616198623982526955/

The fans read it and quickly alerted the steam users who bought the game through steam since they were not willing to update steam as per their sales first. The reddit post can be read here: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2rvl91/i_am_jeff_pobst_ceo_of_hidden_path_entertainment/

Updates will be done to the game yearly. As I predicted, it lacks investors and their defense grid 2 game has them. They will be doing what is profitable to them which is understandable. While others consider this game done, I have hope they will revive it if maybe they had financial backing. This made some steam users upset and others who wanted to buy the game, quickly changed their mind. This is just adding on to early access frustration of gamers that are being even more cautious now about when to spend their money for early access steam games.

Captain Kaboom who we saw show-casing the game recently on twitch along with their defense grid 2 game, has stated that today is her last day at HiddenPath Entertainment. That can be read here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221560/discussions/0/616199347850210316/ Captain Kaboom will be missed.

Seems like there is some in house drama going on that is leading to more of their skeleton crew crisis for their products / projects. The issue now is the advertisement and what they said they will include in the game such as their pvp defense island verses island feature and several other features that may actually never even make it. The CEO was sure to state his background history with employment but it was a bit irrelevant to the current matter as no updates were given within 7 to 8 months. They will certaining need to revise their promises or what is offered for that game so that it markets properly due to their current financial state with the game.

In addition, I wish game devs realized that they should have some responsiblity with a game they claim to be working on when they quickly take the consumers funds and then back out of their deal. The other thing they need to realize is that if you don't do what you say you were going to do, your reputation will follow you & your fans will remember you. Last but not least, it is hurting early access devs with their products when you run into so many games that never get seen to completition. Early access is a BUYER'S BEWARE MARKET. Remember to gamble at your own risk.

With that being said, the game devs should also not take their fans for granted. Word of mouth is a scary thing that can backfire. Devs needs to know that they should be careful and a bit more considerate of their market. After all no one has forced them to make a game & market it to gamers who would of never even missed a game they didn't try or like, if they didn't know existed to begin with. No one is making them at gun point, sit for countless hours and make a game. They offer it all on their own. Many of these game devs are saying there is no money to keep funding the game, but they knew what they were getting into when they picked how to market their game and who to offer it too. I am certainly not upset about it because is always to be expected with these early access games. For this reason I do not recommend any game that feels semi-abandoned as a product and project to anyone. If anything don't be mad at the game devs that can take potentially take off with your money. Instead wonder or question steam's policies in these matters.

Hobbes : "First question concerning Project Windborne, please provide an overview as to it's current status and it's overall progress as regards development? Is it still under active development, is it on the backburner, are there issues that are preventing new builds being pushed out to steam, etc.

Jeff Pobst, CEO HPE: "Windborne is a game we love so very much here at HPE and has been fully funded internally at the studio without partners. That means that as we make money doing projects for other companies or make money selling games that we have made on our own before (Defense Grid as an example) we then reinvest that into the development of other original titles such as Windborne.

With the advent of Early Access we decided to share the early development of the game with people and see if folks would be interested enough to buy it so that it would fund the team each month from the sales.

While we have found a great audience and a lot of people who love Windborne even in its early state, we didn't raise enough sales to continually fund the team at the size it was. After going for over a year with the large team, we couldn't afford to keep that up on our own and so we shrunk the team down to levels we could afford.

So, development is ongoing, its just happening with a much smaller team than it had before and development is progressing slower than before. We know this is frustrating to the existing players who eagerly await completion and its frustrating to us as well.

We here at HPE love the game, and know that the people who have purchased it love it too, and we simply ask for their patience as we all agree that it isn't done, and the only frustration that we all share right now is that HPE doesn't have enough cash to invest right now in order for us to develop as quickly on the game as we were initially doing

With the team a fraction of the size that it was before, it may be up to 12 months or more between updates rather than the every 3 months it was before - that said, we're constantly exploring options here in order to get the updates coming faster if possible - we love this game and we want to make progress on it for you and for us, we believe that it can have greater sales when more pieces of it are complete and when it gets much farther along in its development."

So where does that leave Windborne? Effectively in development hell. The same place that projects like Duke Nukem forever and Aliens Colonial Marines occupied. Updates around once per year mean the project is all but stalled in name, that's probably just enough to keep Valve from delisting the game from the store, but nowhere near enough to keep the game active enough to actually make it worth persuing.

The answer is very fluffy, and very full of soft words like "love" and "want" and "possible" but very light on actual hard information. The outcome is a very similar result to what happened to SpaceBase DF-9, and that project Tanked in a very similar manner. The long and the short, I fear this one short of a major dev drive is done. Not because of developer desire, the post makes it abundantly clear there's a lot of that, but because there's simply not going to be the resources to make it happen.

If wishes could make games live, this one would. But this is reality. This game is dead. It's going to stay dead, and nobody should consider going near it now, or in the future. Steam should delist it, and Hidden Path should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to promote, and sell this game at full price. It is almost, almost an act of fraud, to sell a product that's clearly not going to be finished, that is never going to be finished, and to sell it at such a price point? I imagine some of the people at Hidden Path must feel pretty terrible when they see the Windborne steam page, I know I would.

When I purchased this game I knew it wasn't going to be complete, and I must admit it looks fantastic and runs smoothly. Yet 9 months later and it seems to be in basically the same place except there is dlc for sale. You want me to spend more money? Maybe you should finish the incomplete game game I purchased at $30 first. I've lost confidence, patience, and interest in this company and it's game. Maybe one day this game will be amazing but at this point I'm so disenchanted that I couldn't care less if it did.

Look. I had some fun with this. It has nice music. The terrain shaping tools are better than most of these games. The ability to select alternate forms of items like furniture is a good feature.

You can run around for a couple of hundred hours gathering and building stuff. It is pretty.

But, it's a toy. The game portion never materialized. There is no interaction with the Jin. You cannot "help build a new civilization." The optional combat never materalized.

The multiplayer is crippled. If one other player joins your island, you lag severely. If two join, you probably crash.

The devs disappear for months and then drop a post into the forums with essentially no content. HPE says that they have scaled back the team, however, considering the illusive nature of the communication that has existed over the past eight months or so, I would not be surprised if it has been scaled back to zero.

They say that there was a lack of sales.

They had no sales. Their game is not finished. They had preorders with alpha access.

Early Access is not Kickstarter.

Pay close attention to the disclaimer about early access games. Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.

The last update to the game was July 2014. I think the "may not change further" part of the disclaimer is pretty likely at this point.

I absolutely loved this game when I purchased it. It was on its way to being something wonderful. Looks like its been abandoned, they claim its "self-funded", but I spent $40 on it? Immensly disappointed at the apparent lack of focus by the developers.

I would wait until this gets some more updates under its belt before you purchase it.
