Pros:

-The story line stands out from other games in the HOG genre.

-Artwork. The hidden object scenes were not cluttered, and the items were able to be found.

-Voice acting. The voice actors were actually quite good, which is uncommon in many games (particularly the hidden-object genre).

Cons:

-Ease of puzzles. Some players like their puzzles to be simple, but the puzzles in this game may be TOO easy.

-Unrealistic adventure. Judging by the story line, the game is supposed to be realistic. As others have pointed out, items are discovered in bizarre places that make no sense in a realistic setting.

-Grammatical errors. This is something I often see in HOGs. Most of the time I can overlook grammar mistakes, but in this game the player character finds a note written by a teacher, and in the note the teacher incorrectly says "they're" instead of "their." Forgive me if I find that hard to ignore.

-Length. I completed the entire game and the bonus chapter in four hours! I even went AFK several times!

-No replay value. A common thing with hidden object games. Once you play them through, there is no reason to play them again, and this game is no different.

-Price. Although the game was fun, it's nowhere near worth $14.00.

Verdict: If you are a fan of hidden object games and want to kill a few hours one afternoon, then this game is worth a playthrough. But not for $14.00. Buy it when it is on sale for less than $5.00.

I had bought this game on sale under the assumtion that it was a survival horror game. A rather large misinterpritation of the steam page, I know, but it was cheap for what I had thought it was and the sale was ending quickly. To my dismay it turned out to be a point and click adventure game and while I had played several of those that I liked, Infected did not make such a good impression.

Infected is one of those games in which you find yourself running around with a crossbow, a plunger, a piece of stained class, a key shaped like a card suit, and a giant letter "P" looking for a set of car keys that you find in a secret compartment inside a headstone that opens after you put together a giant metal emblem of a train and afix it to a gate. The larger portion of the game, which is progessed through by illogical puzzle-solving, is broken up by sections in which you must find 12 random objects in a huge cluttered mural of junk. However, the reason this is a positive review instead of a negative one is that despite not being my kind of game, I feel that Infected was good for the game it was trying to be and actually was. I feel that people who actually like this kind of point and click game would enjoy Infected and I am recommending it to them.

Admittedly I found the scavenger hunt sections to be weirdly nostalgic; reminding me of the "I Spy" books I used to have as a child. For what it's worth, I feel like Infected could have been a good survival horror game if the developers had had a mind to make it so. Here's hoping they give making that kind of game a shot.

Pretty good hidden object game with nice graphics (for the genre) and *gasp* a STORY?? There are the usual adventure game elements added, but it's the hidden object parts of the game which are the best part. You don't just find random objects like in most other (older) types of these games, If you need a bell, it could be hidden in a box, but to open the box you need a box cutter. So you find the cutter, to open the box, to collect the bell. It actually makes sense, which is a nice change from the randomness of "collect a hedgehog and a pack of cards" for no reason.

Watch out though, I did have a problem (along with a lot of other people apparently) where the game crashed at the midway point and the only way I could complete the game was to run it through a sandbox program.

I felt like this deserved some love and attention, and rightfully so.

Infected: The Twin Vaccine (now with "Collector's Edition" attached to it, because a free update (amazing treat by the devs to the people who got the game) gave us artwork, an extra level, dev diary/commentary and a bunch of other stuff...) sounds like what to you?

Well, since you, reader, are used to the generic bandwagon of console shooters, zombie shooters, and ♥♥♥♥ cashgrab co-op games that are co-op just because that is a sell-point to little kids! What do you think?

Oh! And in a related news, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is in the top 3 sellers on steam already and it will only be out in October...

Anyways, you will be (probably) glad to hear Infected: The Twin Vaccine is none of that!

Introducing the good return to old-school point n' click adventure.

No no no no no, wait up! Don't leave just yet! Infected isn't the traditional ♥♥♥♥ fest of incoherent puzzles with ghost stories. Rather Infected takes a "realistic" approach, grabbing as a premise a real disease that is deadly and very contagious. In Infected you will find the town of Oxford locked down, as everyone either left it or died in it, due to the spread of said disease, which causes coughing, fevers and other nasty stuff, before the sick person enters in shock and has seizures, and eventually dies.

It really gives a sense of reality to the story and makes it feel truly real, like it CAN happen! That adds depth into the story and more care into the characters than any other point n' click game out there that is all about the ghosts and poorly made, "afternoon nap" puzzle logic.

In The Twin Vaccine, you find the disease starting in 2 twin sisters, 1 of which dies and the other survives and gets back on her feet, only to disappear in a local train station.
You, as a microbiologist, alongside the rest of the scientific community, think the surviving twin is the answer to the cure and fixing this widespread biological terror.

So you start investigating! You go back to the dead, cloudy and misterious (quite post-apocalyptic, which I'm a big fan of in this case) town of Oxford, where you will find you are not the only one looking for Theresa, the surviving twin, where she was last seen in.

The story is simple and I honestly was expecting a nice plot twist by the end.

A plot twist that never came...

And that is fine! The story is straightforward mystery afair, that succeeds in telling something you care about! Something you can be afraid of in real life! Something that gives us a deeper vision of what some human values truly mean!

And that is what I wanted, something I needed in a game for a long time, something that had gameplay and needed my wits to be able to finish it instead of playing "press and hold the "W" key" like Gone Home or The Stanley Parable.

This went way too much under the radar and I will put this in the list alongside Journey and Brothers. A game that is short (took me around 3 hours to beat, but depending on your exploration and puzzle solving skills, you may beat it in something between 2 and 4 hours) and ultimately pricy, BUT still deserves the money value (or at least after a 50% discount) because of what it tells and not how it plays.

Infected uses simple, yet logic (for the most part) puzzles in an open world environment (you can and WILL have to backtrack in some points) and is so well paced I managed to finish it in one single sitting without crying of boredom like other point n' clicks. And by "other" I mean "Every other"! Which pad the game too much and are too repetitive. At least Infected varies stuff up a bit and never outstays its welcome!

The game has a few cutscenes, some are a mix of real life characters and animated movements/lip syncing. People you meet (not many at all) in the map and you can interact look real, because well... they are real! Like filmed and CGI'ed into where you are. It hard to explain, I've never seen anything like this to be honest. Other point n' clicks feel lifeless and atmosphere isn't that good.

I:TTV manages to give life to the atmosphere, making the world feel dead. Yes I know, it's a really big almost non-sensical antithesis but it's true!

To make a world feel dead, to give an atmosphere the sense of loneliness and death, you need to give it some "life" and that takes skill!

Point n' clicks are shovel ware, TTV skull♥♥♥♥s the idea and is the prototype of what point n' click can actually become in the future! It is the AAA version of point n' clicks, because it has quality over quantity and costs 14€. 14€ you pay for quality.

Funnily enough, AAA nowadays means 60€ pieces of absolute ♥♥♥♥ and lying schemes by big corporations, instead of the previous AAA, like, you know? 50€ Good PC Ports with lots of elbow grease rubbed on them...

Ok so, it's not all good. It's short, yes and that short time, is a good time! BUT, that isn't an excuse. Something extra could be made for sure! And no, the extra's aren't enough, they are like 30 extra minutes at best!

The main plot is great! And the end is heart-breaking. But the side plots (little stories you uncover from exploring) feel like not enough attention was put into them. This could've been a great idea to both add a new side story and make it interesting (because it truly does feel interesting), and increase the legth, without making it feel stretched or forced, but everything I got was a few "implied" endings to them, which felt underdeveloped at best.

This is NOT a Spoiler in my opinion, but you can skip to the next paragraph for the rest of the review: ***At one point, you will discover a side plot and argument that happened a few months back between a Carl and a Marty guy, and one accused the other of something (which I won't tell, of course). But I never found out who was right or not, nor the fate of one of the guys.***

It was sad, very much so, it was a really mysterious and engaging side story that never felt like it got the ending it deserved.

Voice acting is good for the most part, one character will feel a bit over the top and weird. But his delivery is still pretty good.
Graphics are taken from real life, like most point n' clicks and it works like the other games of the same genre! But trees and grass could move to the wind to make everything feel a bit less stagnant. But it's still pretty good overall and some changes to the environment like fire, smoke and explosions are still there, which is nice.

Audio and music is fantastic, and add tons to the atmosphere!

Overall, buy this for a good afternoon! You will have nice puzzles and never reach the point of frustration (some, though very few, lack some logic, but that's a given in point n' clicks. Other games of the same genre are all hugely stupid and abstract while this isn't 70% of the time, so kudos for it.), a great story and premise, and an overall great atmospheric world!

Some scenes will be truly shocking and left me pausing the game for 5 minutes. Of course I wont tell which, I'll leave that to your finding and your own surprise shock. You will care about the characters and the world, like I said already, sorry for repeating myself this much, and that is why you should buy I:TTV. It's Point n' clicks done right and you should totally buy it.

8.5/10, you will have a good (if short) time with this one. If the price still scares you, wait for a 50% or 66% off sale on steam (or somewhere else).

It's very good, I'm impressed! At times it made me think of Lost in the City, which is one of my favorites. Maybe the urban apocalyptic setting... There's a mix of drawn graphics and real videos and actors, the result is very kitch but totally suits the game, giving it an eerie game design that goes well with the scenario. Theres a few behind the scene pics in the bonus stuff. And for once the bonus chapter is well thought out, genious! Wished there was more to it, really. Which brings the bad: it's very short: 4 hours. And extremely easy. But don't let that stop you bying it, wait for a sale if you find the price too steep for that length. However I'm generally fast in playing HOGs, maybe 5 or 6 hours is more correct.
A sequel is hinted, I'm really looking forward to it!

This game is a bit of a cross between a HOG and a point-n-click adventure. As a point-n-click, you'll find it easy and way too basic. As a HOG, I believe it's one of the best out there. It looks great, it sounds great, it's original, has an engaging story and actually tries to do new things in a genre that's more often than not tired and predictable.

If I had to criticize something, I'd say that the script writer and the puzzle designer were not on speaking terms. While one was writing a gritty story that seems to be going for realism, the other was making it so you'd have to assemble a piñata to open up secret compartment in your daughter's grave to retrieve a colored fuse. It's a bit jarring at times, but it's nothing that Resident Evil hasn't done before.

Bear in mind though, it is quite short. Even with the added content of the collector's edition it still took me a little over 3 hours to get everything, so it's probably best to wait until it's on sale.

This is not an usual point and click puzzle adventure. The game is good, actually. Despite easy puzzles, poor graphics and "ok" sounds and music, the game can actually take you into a possible "new world" with all the visuals and stuff. However the story itself is not that interesting, and you can easilly finish this game in under three hours.
If you like this kind of games or you want a huge backlog of games in Steam and you can get it for a low price, go for it! If not, don't waste your time and money. This can be "ok" for the genre, but it's not a great game, or even a complete one, once you will not even have a solid story to talk about with your friends.

Sadly, this is another one of those hidden-object games masquerading as an adventure game. The puzzles are incredilbly easy and make no real sense, e.g. you have to find a mailbox flag, which is inexplicably buried in the ground and marked with an X, to open the mailbox. If you are into HOGs you can find them online for free or at least cheaper.

If you like this genre of game, this one is better than some! It felt like the developer rushed it to (in-)completion; if you remember that "facts" given in the game are sometimes blatant falsehoods you'll have more fun! In my opinion, it's not worth the full price being asked as of 2014-09-15.

Infected: The Twin Vaccine was more interesting than some similar games I've played. However, I was turned off by the game's assertion that etymology is the study of bugs (insects).
  • The study of insects is entomology.
  • Etymology is the study of words and the linguistic properties of words as they change over time.
Apologies to all who already know that! I included the definitions and links so readers won't have to look the words up on their own time if they feel they require increased clarity.

Admittedly, the two words in question are sometimes erroneously used in place of each other, but the fact that the writer(s) and artist(s) and editor(s) and etc. all missed that egregious error speaks volumes. I played no further because of illogicalities to which the game had already subjected me (despite the availability of an easily-accessed in-game walkthrough) and because I needed more free space on my HDD (I can't remember; it's been awhile) when I last played it.

Boring is all I can say about this "game". Some of the puzzles just don't make sense and wont apply in the real world. Some, if not all the things you encounter isn't very logical. The weird people animation thing that they had was just bad is well.

One of the best hidden object games but... unfortunately there is this "but". There is one HUGE bug. Cursor can change to a clock and the Guide can be black. Reinstaling flash/shockwave helps. But do you want do it everytime before starting this game? I recomend it. Maybe they will fix it.

I beat this game 100% in less than a day. I think that for a game that is over $10, that's just unacceptable. I mean, there are plenty of great games out there that are under $10 that last longer than this. Also, the gameplay wasn't exactly great, and I really felt like it suffered from even worse of common sense oversights than most point-and-click games. Think, instead of "why don't I use the wrench to beat the security controls to a pulp, thus disabling the lasers, instead of whatever the game wants me to use it for?" this game instead raises questions like "how about, instead of collecting all of the missing letters and then opening the manhole, I just, I don't know, lift the manhole?"

Hidden object games are pretty much the opposite of the types of games I go for; but I'm glad I gave this one a shot. A lot of the logic or cause/effect when interacting with certain objects didn't really make sense in spots, especially when it came to using the crossbow in spots. This never really blocked me though and more often then not I could find the solution. The story was pretty simple; but interesting enough to hold the game together.

Pretty cool hidden object game, one of the better ones I've played.

Story is cool, no jump scares, puzzles aren't too frustrating or cliche. Some puzzles tend to be nonsensical in the last third of the game - why would someone hide his car keys in a celler behind a movable tiles game and then hide one of the tiles inside the wall of another building?

But other than that it's pretty cool.

Yeah well, it's hidden object-ish type game, so not much so say about the gameplay. It could do with some achievements to document your progress, though.

Maybe it's a bit short.

And rushed. Yeah, definitely rushed. See, there is this virus outbreak, and you're looking for the one girl who appears to be immune. However, it is seems that they never really thought about the story beyond having the one immune girl, so when you actually see her for the first time, it feels like the hidden object gameplay mechanics are merely there to prevent you from actually meeting her for a little longer. But, eventually, you do meet her, the little distraction-part about the guy trying to prevent you from meeting her (and thus creating a good deal of the hidden object obstacles) is resolved, and the game is rushed to an ending that doesn't have anything to do with the virus outbreak -- it's just you having to get her out of the town before the military levels it.

Occasionally there are hints at a bigger story, but in the end, it's just that: find the witness, get her out of town. Or no, wait. It's find the bomb, get it to the expert to defuse it. Or no... find the immune girl, get her out of town. Yes, that's the one. I knew I would get it right, eventually. They completely avoided attempts to take their story and do something with it; they just had their story so it's not the witness being protected from the mafia but something less common, but in the end it's still the same and the game ends once you get her a safe passage out of town.

I can only "recommend yes/no", and I don't like to badmouth a game that doesn't really have technical flaws or anything. It might be a bit too short, there's not much story, but other than that it's ok. So I'll "yes" it, even though it should probably be more of an "yes, maybe".
