If you are a hard core Monopoly player, then this game is just for you. However, if you expect multiplayer, sad to say, this game does not offer it.

However I recommend this game for Monopoly fans who wish to relax in the evening and pass the time. I enjoyed playing this game, though.

Monopoly is an old classic from my childhood. I love to play it, and have owned many copies of the broad game. Additionally I’ve owned several video game versions as well. My recommendation on this game is split, as I will expand upon below. With this version there are several things I'd like to comment on...

Pros...
--Interactive dice roles
--Animated piece movement
--Changeable backgrounds
--Includes two or three of the common/house rules as options
--The game allows human players to cheat
--There are several advanced features like statistics on how many times you or another player has landed on a property and probability of it happening in the next roll

Cons...
--No Multiplayer (over the internet, you can play with up to three others on the same computer)
--Limited to four players whether 3 AI and 1 Human player or 4 Human players the limit is 4 (The board game and several video game counterparts allows for 6-8 players including the predecessor of this version)
--The Hard level is not Hard enough (In fact it is a joke)
--Several common/house rules are missing as options (as shown in multiple rule books published by Parker Brothers and/or Hasbro, if you include two or three you should include all)
--The Community Chest/Chance cards are chosen completely at random every time, so it is possible to get the same card twice in a row or within two or three draws (something that next to never happens on the board game, but it happens very often in this version)
--When you change windows off the Monopoly window the game pauses (instead of finishing the moves for the AI players)
--You always face the red side of the board and the camera jerks around constantly to follow the animation ( additionally there is no free movement to see where opponent pieces are on the board)

In general as you can see the con list is larger than the pro list, and I could make it larger still. This version of the game is basically just ok. It is a way to pass the time, especially if you like Monopoly. So from that standpoint I would recommend this game.

There is no challenge to this game though. Whether you are playing on Easy or Hard you cannot honestly tell the difference. If you want a challenge I suggest an older version of Monopoly called Monopoly 2008 published by GameHouse and TIKGames. It was and may still be available through realArcade. If not there are still copies available through second hand game stores as it was published on CD as well. In my opinion EA/PopCap Games dropped the ball here as they had an excellent start in this older version when they purchased the rights to this game and the Monopoly brand. Monopoly 2008 still is not multiplayer but it has basically all the house rules as options, and the Hard mode is well hard. So from this standpoint I say pass on this game.

All and all there is plenty of room for improvement here. If this game gets updated to fix some of the cons listed above I will remove this review and give it another chance. Until then I just use this game to play with friends, and ignore the AI. It is the only reasonable use in my opinion of this version. The Previous (Monopoly 2008) version is what I play when I want to play the computer.

Look... this is not an online game. Yes, that's a bad thing, but for those who miss playing a good Monopoly match, a nice round with the computer is no bad thing.

You set it to Easy, you win very easily. You set it to Medium, the opposing pieces rarely ever land on your spots unless the spot is mortgaged. Just go buy Monopoly Streets on console, that is the superior version to this atrocity.

Classic game. The only thing I don't like is the fact I can filp the board over at the end when I loose. A cheap must have.

I absolutely love playing Monopoly.....the board game. The Steam game does not allow online play. The only way you can play with another human is if you play in the same location on your PC. It's really stupid. The AI is extremely dumb; like Original Wolfenstein 3D AI Dumb. I don't think they AI could be programmed any worse if they tried. Playing the game on Hard is still playing the game on uber easy mode.

This game is based on the XBOX 360 version of the game (Uses some kind of XNA developer code) The backgrounds are different however from this version. The graphics in the game are wonderful. The only complaint I have is that you have to move your taskbar in order to get to the options menu to make the game full screen on the first start. Small complaint yes. Oh and another one, I wish it was online so you can play against other people. But it's a vast improvement over the version that Tik Games had published. I did not particularly care for that one. Would also be great for kids in the family who want to play against each other on the same computer. I won't vote the game not reccomended just because it has no online multiplayer. Everyone has their gaming tastes and preferences.

Ok this game, where do I start? Let me tell you this, I HATE THE AI! To me the AI is NOT that easy on easy! I've lost to it about 3 times now! But still, its a fun game, if your bored, here is the game to play! It's fun, it's classic, it's challenging, you can go to jail, and maybe scam the AI sometimes XD. So I dont care if you buy it or not, its fun to me and more people who own it and like it! Also you MITE want to (if he gets it) buy his get out of jail card for free, so he can pay $50 or (not really) get doubles! He sells it (on easy I think or on all levels idk ive only played this game on easy) for $25 at the least. So be a nice guy and buy it from him so he can MAYBE (not much chance) get doubles or pay and lose $50! (You do not get it sorry XD.)

Gross. I am pretty sure I was sold something I got off a ceral box for free as a kid.

I love Monopoly, so I don't understand why in 2014 with 81 years of the original games existence, and video games existing for about 30+ years, why nobody can get it right.

If you want a good monopoly game, I suggest "Monopoly" on the PS1.
Hell, even "Monopoly Party" was better on the PS2.
iirc, the 8-bit NES version can support more then 4 players..

The only thing this game got right, was the ability to change the setting of the room that the board is in.

4 players max, no online..and the worst part IMO is no aggregate stat collection.
like, there is a stats tab, but the stats listed are pathetic and if you wanted something in depth then shame on you. What is so hard about adding up all my total earnings from all my previous games?
Other console versions do it.

All and all, stay away. If they update this game, I will update my review.

2/5..and thats just being generous.
1 point for the actual game I could have played on a board,
1 point for the 5 different settings I could play in.

This release is a sad misguided production. Although it's accurate to the boardgame and works in the sence that you can win the game, it's impossible to follow what is going on. All through the game there are board movements and amounts coming up in the screen. In-game popups block the board partially and make it difficult to find the opponent pieces on the board. The settings don't let you change the unwanted visual effects. It does however let you change the colour of the dice. (?!?)
I find myself going back to the event log to see what happened, who rolled the dice and why a certain amount flashed across the screen. Infogrames made a better version back in 1999. This version allowed a 2D-view of the board that allowed you to keep a good overview of the positions of the pieces, which is really helpful when making tactical decisions like when to invest in a monopoly.

You know its hard to NOT recommend Monopoly, which is such a great, and all time classic game. But this computer game version of it is terrible. There is nothing special about it at all, nothing to recommend on it. The animations are terrible, its hard to see where your piece, and the other player's pieces are on the board, the camera does a follow on the dice as they bounce around the board when you roll that will make you nauseating sick, the music is horrifically awful, the GUI for your current assets leaves a lot to be desired.... need I go on? Of those first 5 complaints, the only one you can fix, is the music. The rest, you are stuck with. The computer doesn't make intelligent trades; its a hard ♥♥♥ for 7 trades in a row, offering exactly what you paid for an item, so that it completes its set. I reject each one and a few turns later, it offers $900 for mortgaged New York Ave, when it only has $920. Also a glitch the first time I was in jail, I had my get out of Free Jail card. Couldn't find it, cause I cant see my stuff, especially that. Got no offer to use it. And I was broke, so I really could have used it. Instead had to mortgage stuff to get out. Next time I was in jail, it immediately popped up asking if I wanted to use it. Well I know I didn't somehow miss the giant full screen message the first time.

Long story short, for $4.00, this was a total waste of money, but thankfully not a lot of money, and I'll probably never play it again.

The game itself is pretty nice, the mechanics are nice too. You can decide which house rules you wanna play with and how much money you get for passing go.
HOWEVER, the AI is pure ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They trade between themselves, minimal amount of money for one street, but when you try to trade you better be willing to pay twice what they street is worth for them to even CONSIDER trading with you. That is why I can't recommend the game.

This game will randomly freeze on your turn and no longer accept any input, leaving no option but to force-close it.
