About This Game

The game brings a fresh new take on the city building/management genre by introducing many RPG features.

In Towns you manage a settlement on top of an active dungeon. Instead of playing the hero who delves deep into the dungeon, how about playing the town that houses and caters to the hero's needs?

Both the RPG and strategic aspects will be fleshed out over a series of sprawling dungeons.

Attract travelling heroes that will independently explore the dungeons below, fight off monsters, gain levels, special skills and collect the best loot they can find in order to clear the land of all evil!

Craft unique weapons, trade with exotic items, obtain randomized loot, set up devious death traps and build a settlement capable of holding back the forces that come up from the depths!

This game is something else. Not quite a clone of many other city/colony builders but it is as addictive as crack when you realize that one of your townies being a total ♥♥♥♥♥ climbed up on top of the wall you were building and cant get down so you have to quickly build some scaffolds so he doesnt starve to death on top of the wall.
or you can be evil and let him learn his lesson and die
then if you dont give him a propper burrial he will come back from the dead and attack your townies and if they are not armed they could die and have even more ghosts :)

As if it weren't already said enough, this game was abandoned a while ago. I personally saw at least a little potential at the start, but alas, that was forgotten. I want a refund.

Died in infancy, a failed product of Early Access. What killed it? Literally Steam Early Access. This game sold pretty solidly for a bit before that, but when it was dubbed as being "garbage" by a majority of steam, it seems the devs lost interst in further developing it, and moved on.

Sad, but true. Other games seem to be following in it's foot-steps however, though less in the "Failed and Abandoned" way. Stonehearth looks promising, as does Timber and Stone.

Now this game is nowhere near perfect, and maybe it 15 dollars isn't the best price. That being said, this game is very entertaining and had my attention for a few hours at the least. There may be games better than this, and maybe the dev's did give up on it, but I think it was a nice try which would have been amazing in the past.

It's another Dwarf Fortress style game. This one ran outta money so the devs stopped working on it. The current state of the game kinda sucks so I'd probably avoid this and pick any of the other 20 Dwarf Fortress clones on the market. Or you know, just play Dwarf Fortress.

Going to put in a few words to defend this game. Everything people say is true - it's unfinished and abandoned, and I wouldn't pay $15 for it. However, if you can get it for like $5, and you like this sort of game, I'd say go for it.

I haven't played it since like 2 years ago, but I have to admit I liked it when I played it, despite its unfinished-ness and bugs. Like, there's Dwarf Fortress, then there's Gnomoria, which is DF-lite, and then there's Towns, which is Gnomoria-lite. Relatively easy to play and fun to build up your little town. Not too much micromanagement. Fun to zone out to.

90 hours. 90 hours of fun, trying to move a river, flooding everything, losing my favorite people. This game is REALLY hated these days. Abandoned? Pfft. Fine. I still did 90 hours and may even do more soon. I like this game. Wait til it's on super sale.

This game had good ideas when it began. However, it's been 3 years since an update came out and the game is barely functional and very, VERY incomplete. In short, The devs ran off with the money. DO NOT BUY.

|WARNING:|THIS GAME IS ABONDONED DO NOT BUY| (Unless you really feel like doing so)

This game was promising but it was abondoned and very rarely updated by the devs. I can't deny that I enjoyed making a little town and watching NPC heroes come to my town to clear dungeons for me. I really liked the ideas and visions for this game but hence the devs, being the lazy procrastinators they are, it is definitely not worth your dollars.

Do not buy this game in this current unfinished and abondoned state that it is. Try other games that centers on the same ideas as this game like Stonehearth.

Alright folks, the game doesn't deserve all the hate. Well, ummm, actually it does, but not to this extent. I originally bought the game at version 8 (now it's version 14e), so yeah, I'm amongst those who were "cheated" by early promises, and I will still give this game a thump up.

Why it does deserve the hate? Because it's clearly unfinished.
-Several in-game features are clunky, for example ordering your troops around: you can't simply say "go there", you can only place patrol points. So exploring the dungeons beneath the surface is like: right-click somewhere, place waypoint, wait until they get there, right-click on waypoint, remove waypoint, right-click somewhere else, place waypoint, wait until they get there, etc. Since there's no other option I can live with it, but I'm not lovin' it.
-Poor pathfinding. The townies may just ignore the roads, although they walk parallel with them only one square away.
-AI is lacking. The haulers tend to choose stuff to pick up far, far away, instead of that exact same thing they are standing on. And, please, don't go to sleep or eat when several dozens of spiders are besieging the town. Also, don't try to gather loot in the middle of the battlefield, because it's dangerous to your health.
-The variety of stuff to build is a bit underwhelming, although not always. For example you can build one type of wooden chair (not counting that one which needs gold besides wood), but at the same time there are like twenty stone wall styles. So building homes is not on Sims level.
I think these are the negatives worth mentioning, may update if I encounter something I haven't written here yet. Umm, okay, others may say the music is repetitive, but I don't mind, it's not horrible.

Why it does not deserve this much hate:
- Contrary to a lot of other reviews, I have not encountered _any_ bugs, at least not apparent ones. No memory leaks. No hangups, no slowdowns, no CTDs. I don't really get what others mean when they describe this game as "buggy as ****". There were a lot of them in earlier versions, but right now this is one of the most bug-free games I ever played.

I will not make a list about other pros, because they are subjective. I just leave here this: I still prefer Towns way over Gnomoria, and if it was a terrible game I wouldn't have come close to play it for 270 hours. Not many of my games can boast that much playtime.

Thus, I dare to say, if you like building towns from blocks, and if Towns is on sale, try it.

So it's not an easy game to master, at times it seems buggy until you realize you're clicking the wrong block level since the camera can be difficult to manage at lower levels. However, I have played towns on and off again for almost 2 years. Many people have complained about the difficulty and 'lack of updates' but I have enjoyed this simple but addictive game. The hero system and village management is very enjoyable. Building with idiot villagers is actually a lot of fun.

Why is this even on Steam still, let alone for $10? I bought it on when it was on sale for like $2 and even that was a rip-off. The game was clunky and buggy, and then abandoned.

I've had a lot of fun with this game. It's addicting. And so far I haven't had the same experience with any other game of this genre. Sadly it was abandoned by the devs. It's playable, you can still do a lot in this game but well.. it's unpolished, it has bugs and it has a lot of potential wasted.
