Huge FREE update just released

We have just released a huge FREE update to Zombie Driver HD which includes a lot of improvements to the game.

Major changes:
- more than doubled the number of zombies roaming the streets,
- a lot more weapons around the city which results in much more dynamic gameplay,
- a new "Retro" camera setting which presents gameplay from an entirely top-down perspective with no camera rotation,
- bloody skidmarks when driving through blood splats
- dust particles are emitted when a car is drifting
- soft ambient occlusion shadows (HBAO),
- depth fog,
- environment reflections,
- new animated objects,
- improved particle animation and physically simulated particles,
- improved atmospheric effects and rebalanced all missions,

The new update enables HBAO by default (it is called Screen Space Ambient Occlusion in the config window). This option may be hard on some older or integrated graphics cards so if you are experiencing performance problems please disable it in the config screen or decrease your rendering resolution (the rendering performance cost of this feature is directly tied to the screen resolution). We also strongly encourage everyone to leave Vsync turned on.

Huge Free update available in Beta

We are currently working on a huge FREE update to Zombie Driver HD which includes a lot of big improvements to the game.

We have just released the update as a public beta and it would be great if you could help us spot any problems before we make it live for everyone. If you want to check out the update right click on Zombie Driver HD in your list of games on Steam, select Properties, go to the Beta tab and select the Public Beta from the drop down menu. The update should download approximately 1.1GB (we've changed a lot of stuff).

If you would encounter any crashes or problems it would help us greatly if you could send us the debug information that should be created with each crash. You can find crash dump information here (Exact location depends on which windows version you have and may be slightly different.):
C:\Users\your_username\Documents\ZombieDriverHD

Memory dump file name should be similar to this:
ZombieDriverHD_3221225477_2010_1_8_T13_50_3.mdmp

Please send the files and your feedback to support@zombiedriver.com. We would very much appreciate your help in smoothing out any problems!

+ Missions are fast-paced and brutally fun
+ Satisfying visuals and audio
+ Slaughter mode provides hours of fun and leaderboard competition

This isn't a game that wastes its time delivering compelling narratives or experimenting with some new spin on dispatching contemporary gaming's most overused enemies; it's just you and your car. You smash through them and the destructible terrain with taxis and school buses, you fry them with rocket launchers and flamethrowers, and you level up your weapons and armor to do the same job more efficiently. It's not the most imaginative game around, but it's dumb, gory fun.
In single-player, you’re challenged with over 30 different missions, each set in a huge open-world environment. Sadly, the campaign’s variety doesn’t live up to its scope, with most objectives finding you driving to different locations and relieving them of the undead.
There are secondary errands for you to complete, but these often slap an arbitrary time limit on the endeavour, or force you to plough through a specific number of corpses in return for monetary bonuses.

While the campaign might yield its share of kicks, it's nowhere near as engaging as the survival-style Slaughter mode, which pits you against escalating numbers of zombie hordes and rewards you with weapon upgrades for surviving a round. As you progress through the campaign and the other game modes, you’ll constantly be earning cash. The game boasts a combo system, which sees you richly rewarded for initiating kill chains.
In order to maximise your score, you need to use various different kill tactics in a single string. For example, you’ll need to kill enemies with the front, sides, and behind of your car, as well as with different weapons, turbo boosts, and more. Making the most out of this mechanic is essential, as it enables you to afford the aforementioned vehicle upgrades, and makes you more versatile in combat.

As in the campaign, there's a welcome variety of enemies, including run-of-the-mill zombies that swarm the car, hulking brutes that throw bricks, and fat zombies that rush you and explode.
If there's a problem, it's that the tiny maps feel cramped after the spacious landscapes of the campaign, and the limited space ensures that you spend much of your time in Slaughter mode simply driving around in circles

The game boasts some outstanding visual effects, but these can be overwhelming. Some missions take place at night with only your vehicle’s headlights and the crackle of lightning to illuminate your path – but while these stages look stunning, it can be near impossible to navigate your way through the open-world’s windy back roads with so little lighting.
It doesn’t help that the compass system and map overlay is dreadfully clunky, making it hard to know where you’re going in even the clearest weather conditions.

Zombie Driver HD features a more varied narrative campaign that is twice as long as the original, adding epic boss fights, demolition missions, new enemies and special vehicles such as a fire truck, bulldozer and even a tank, as well as many more gameplay enhancements. Zombie Driver HD does its job well enough for you to overlook its lesser aspects; after all, it understands what makes the concept so appealing to begin with.

If you liked driving around and killing people with your car in GTA 1 & 2, you might take a pleasure in playing Zombie Driver. You've either got a machine gun, a flamethrower, a rocket launcher or a railgun mounted on your car. You even can choose your vehicle, e.g. a taxi, a sports car and not at last a tank in story mode. Beside the story mode, which is not that sophisticated, there is a racing called Blood Race and a survival mode called Slaughter. All of those are fun and the game itself is just about fun, it is certainly not a high-class game. Despite the variety of three playable modes, the game is rather short. Nonetheless it is worth buying, especially on sale.

It's actually not a bad game at all. It's very fun and addicting. It would be good if the game had a free roam in it. I love the blood in the game :D. Got it for 0.70€ using a coupon :D :P

I recieved a coupon through crafting a badge that showed me this game.
It actually allowed me to get this game for a dollar.
I was pleased - an inexpensive game with an interesting and fun sounding idea and an equally interesting and fun looking trailer? Sign me up.

No no no, wait, take my name back off of that. Now. I changed my mind.
First impressions told me that this game was goign to be fun, to be interesting, and be overall very enjoyable.
It isn't. The controlls make the car hard to manuver, amn near impossible to kill anything with, and overall, it simply feels broken.
I figured, then, with the story mode being lackluster, I could probably get some enjoyment out of the Arena mode. Locked in an arena with a near endless supply of zombies. Just you can your car to fight them all off... Sounds good, right?
Just as boring. Jombies drop like rocks at the touch of your car, and do almost nothing to it. I started the first arena in hard mode - ten minutes later I got the gold medal by doing nothinbg but holding the fire button and driving in circles.

Terrible game.

WARNING ! This game give nausea !!!
Even if you never get nausea by playing, buy this game only if you want to vomit.

Read the forums, there are discussions about that.

The game is cool, but it's actually unplayable.

What is there to say about Zombie driver HD that has not already been said?

Coopl story, excellent concept, and easy to have fun with, but hard to master. If you have ever dreamed about racing a taxi with rocket launchers into a zombie mob, pressing fire, and driving through a fireball of epic proportions, then this game is for you.

I would suggest buying an X-box controller for this.

Drink for this game? Mountain dew, mixed with vodka and a dash of lime, with a spoonfull of strawberry jam.

Zombie Driver HD, is almost the same Zombie Driver game but the HD version has more missions and some vehicles + new skins for older vehicles. Except that is almost the same game. I said "same" since the keyboard keys still can't be changed, which is strange but well some might manage it while I didn't like it at all. I mostly use Z instead of S and well since I couldn't change the keys I was forced to get used to using S.

But, I never encountered any bugs during the campaign play which is quite ok with me since I wanted to play the whole campaign and see how the story evolves. I said story but it's a very simple story, a corporate experiment goes terribly wrong, the army can't interviene (no idea why) but I can :P. A simple taxi driver, who over the course of missions can get some nice weapons and some part upgrades and a lot of money :P

The campaign is simple, some missions, not really making any sense but well, at least playing the campaing went smoothly and I finished all the missions very fast. Some missions were interesting while others were both hard and boring. The only problem I had was during the missions with a vehicle without any weapons (a bulldozer and a truck). But I managed to finish every single mission very fast and thus complete the campaign which was decent to say at least. I think the game in co-op would be way more interesting if the 2nd player could either ressuply or repair the 1st player :P Maybe in Zombie Driver II?

I never tried the Blood Race or Slaughter modes so I have no ideas about them. I did enjoyed the game, some vehicles are amazing at killing zombies, some are slower but manuvrable while others move fast but are not that durable. Depends of taste, there's a lot of vehicles to choose, the ones introduced in an DLC are quite awesome and probably the best all-around to use.

If you like a "drive a car with weapons and kill zombies" game, if you can adapt to the "no keys remaping system" try it :P You might be suprised and the campaign will take some 4-6 hours to finish, depending of your playing style and well pacience :P

Who doesn't want to spend their weekend running over som zombies with a taxi or even burning some with your nitrous! This game has 31 missions of pure zombie killing carnage. Gets a bit reptitive at sometimes but zombie driver has a survival mode which is always good fun. Achievements in this game aren't impossible to get and I had some good fun achieving them all!

+Running over zombies
+Burning zombies
+Really good achievements
+Survival mode

-Can be repetitive
-Not much gameplay

7/10 - Good way to spend a weekend for only $10
