Really good software, love it, easy to use.
Only one problem:

I dont get why, but pokemon essentials is only for RPGMaker XP.
This is really bad, maybe one day...
Other than that its quite nice

NOT SO FIRST TIME USER FRIENDLY! This proram does take time to understand all the tools and option to make a great game. Those interrested in such top view rpg and side view combat retro gaming, then its perfect for you to start creating your own game adventures. To share with friends or even one day maybe to the public on a large scale. All I can say is watch a lot of youtube videos or read forums ect to get walk throughs for basic steps to get started.

BUY THIS ON SALE... Because you will need its multiple expansions/add-ons to make a great game... and it can get very very expensive for the things you want added.

Easy to use game maker. If you have no clue how to program, use this to make a simple rpg. You don't even need to know how to make sprites, there's a built in character sprite maker for free.

To say that I'm a noob at programming is an understatement.

That being said, I can have fun with this game making rpgs within the relatively open constraints that it gives you to design with.

If you're a programmer though, I've been told this is not a great one to make your game with.

Tl:dr - If you don't know anything about game making, then yeah, this is pretty great and fun. If you are looking to make a specific game you have in mind, then this will probably be a bit too constricting and uncooperative for you.
I'm a noob.

While it is a Flexible Tool, It does have some rather disappointing limits. First of all, the Default (and mostly unchangeable) resolution, is very small. Albeit, it is a comfy resolution for an RPG, the Tool does have some very limiting rules.
The Script Editor is relatively complicated, especially for a beginning Game Designer's Program. Scripts often times don't work well or just create more problems for your game. For example, I followed every Instruction to the T, for installing a Custom Menu Script. Keep in mind that the Script for a Custom MENU, was more than 1000 LINES OF CODE. I get that it isn't exactly easy to create a game, but, still. Not to mention, With all the DLC the game lets you buy, and All the Custom User Created Content you can Import, add too much and it Crashes when you try to save. So have fun, trying to work on a game that is Overloaded and Disfunctional with a Few Custom Battlers, a Tileset, and the sprite of a shoe.

I purchased RPG Maker VX Ace so that I could develop (and hopefully publish) an attractive, distinguished RPG over the Summer break. I found the price to be somewhat discouraging, especially as there are other free programs - such as GameMaker - which are capable of producing the same type of game. That being said, however, I found this software to be far superior to its competitors and easily worth the money.

RPG Maker VX Ace offers several powerful components that simplify the lengthy process of developing an RPG. When you first create your game, you will have unrestricted access to the built-in map editor. This is where you will use your graphics (or the ones that came with the software) to design your world maps, exteriors, interiors, and everything in between! Your map is where you can create, delete, and modify events. Everything that the main character talks to, fights, or receives quests from is controlled by an event, as they are the subject matter of your game. Lastly, the database editor is where all of your game data is stored. Here, you can create NPCs, classes, and anything else you can imagine!

RPG Maker VX Ace provides pages of royalty-free graphics for anyone who legally owns a copy of their software. Most users won't find themselves worrying about importing their own graphics, but there is an option to do so in the database editor. One obstacle that I was unable to overcome, however, was the fact that compiled games can only execute in an extremely small, fixed screen resolution. The window can not be made fullscreen or enlarged beyond 544x416 pixels, and the only solution is hacking the game's executable file - which is a direct violation of the EULA.

Overall, I found RPG Maker VX Ace to be an excellent piece of software for home users who want to develop a game, and potentially share it with their friends or upload it to the Steam Workshop. People looking to develop a commercial game may want to look elsewhere, though, as the locked resolution and generic menu graphics would be a major turnoff for PC gamers with high expectations.

It's better than MV, and worth it.

You probably would want to try out GameMaker if its not on sale though. I got it for $7 on sale, but if you want to be a gamemaker and are on a low budget you should just pass this one up. If you're desperate go ahead and get XP or something. This is the best one in my opinion.

With nearly any creative software there is a major advantage and a major flaw. The major flaw is that once you've got your hands on the software, it can be a little overwhelming and slightly complicated trying to figure out how to make this, that and the other. The major advantage is that when you've figured out HOW to make this, that and the other, the only two limits are your imagination and your willingness to spend hours on end constructing your little world.

My advice for this software? It can be narrowed down to three major points:

1: Strike while the iron's hot in the sales.
I got this for just over £5 in a sale, where it would normally be £90 or so. My immediate discovery upon this was: BUY BUY BUY!! I'm happy to have had this golden opportunity.

2: Learn the system as best you can.
If you're too lazy to figure it out yourself, you can always check online: there are plenty of tutorials and Q&A posts to help you out with making this, that and the other a virtual reality.

3: Get creative, make it original.
You can import music and graphics and you're still fighting slimes with Eric the Axe Master? There's no need for that. And besides, RPG Maker games don't earn internet popularity through giving players the same old stuff.
This is probably the part where your willingness is tested: if you are happy to take a bite out of your time playing other games to create the music and sprites for your world, then it will be worth it. If you decide to change the gameplay about by importing some new scripts as well, then your efforts will be rewared with praise and possibly some money to add to your Steam wallet.

If not, then you should just be happy like I am that you waited for the sales to buy this software, and when you can find the time, you have said software. Seriously though, you pay £90 for something you could get for £5 in the sales and you WILL kick yourself when you realise the massive mistake you've made. You know you will.
