“When you finally uncover the secrets to ancient alien technology or build a frigate that wins a deep space battle, StarDrive provides a sense of accomplishment few games can.”
73 – GameInformer

“Some omissions and flaws, but balanced by excellent alien races and ship design. A welcome addition to the crew.”
78 – PC Gamer

“I love that StarDrive’s master lists of ships and planets can be sorted by any column, making it easy to find the largest nearby planet or ships in your fleet that are costing you the most in maintenance.”
70 – Machinima

About the Game

StarDrive sets a new benchmark for the ‘4X Space Strategy’ genre. Starting with a single planet and a small number of space-worthy vessels, you must venture forth into the galaxy, conquer new worlds, build new colonies and defend your very existence against those who would take what is yours. How you play is your decision. Use diplomacy or brute force. Trade, spy and research your way to galactic domination. Make friends, or create mortal enemies…

The heart of StarDrive is its ship design and combat engine.

StarDrive takes a modular approach to ship design, allowing the player to create custom ships where the composition and placement of ship modules really matters to the performance of a ship.. In combat, if your portside armour is taking a beating, then rotate around and show them the starboard side! Hide behind a friendly capital ship’s shields; warp into and out of the fray, launch fighters, lay mines, and so much more.

Key Features

  • Real time gameplay with a seamless zoom from a grand strategic view to a close-up action view
  • Choose from 8 beautifully rendered alien races or design your own to lead into the stars; interact, negotiate and forge allegiances on your way to victory
  • Expand your empire and colonize all kinds of planets, terraform and populate them and build them into specialized centers of trade or industry
  • Research and unlock an array of technologies to improve your military and industrial capabilities
  • Control your ships with classic real time strategy commands or jump into the fray by taking direct ‘arcade’ control of any ship in your empire
  • Create your unique ship designs with the modular ship design system and determine your own fate in battle
  • Create custom fleet formations and set rules of engagement in the easy-to-use fleet editor
  • Steal technologies, incite rebellions, or rob your enemies blind with a rich agent-based espionage system
  • Deploy ground troops from orbit to defeat the enemies’ last planetary defenses in ground combat
  • Explore the rich universe that comes alive with random events, remnant elements, hidden treasures, deep space terrors and late-game threats

Bought the game in the early days for full price, was listed as Multiplayer and promised many features. Multiplayer was NEVER added and none of these features we were told would be implemented, made it in to the game. The Developer secretly worked on the second game behind the scenes, using our money to fund his work rather than finishing the first one and then even having the cheek to Kickstart the second game for even more money? Only to then sell this second game back to us again, at full price! Complete rip-off. Now we're left with nothing but a broken demo. I will NOT be buying the second game and funding such a dirty, cheap money making scheme and I'd advise that others do the same. The only way these developers will learn NOT to cheat their customers, is if they have no custom. As bad as EA as far as I'm concerned.

I cant believe the dev. would leave his original game and create a stardrive 2, Why would you create a game abandon it and expect us to buy another failure?!?

This game started out good but was never finished despite what the dev and ♥♥♥♥♥ic fanboys want you to think.

It takes balls to try and release a sequal before you even finish the initial game.

This game was a dream. A fine product in the making with aspirations for greatness. We, the ones who bought in early in development, had further dreams of playing this complex and (even in early stages) fun game.

Then it started. Features began to be stripped off the list due to engine limitations (I might add that other early access games have successfully carried out full-engine ports when the limitations of the initial engine became apparent and at no additional expense to the existing financial backers...). The dreams and promises slowly turned to ash in our mouths as this unfinished and limited product got promoted out of beta (some having suggested just in time for sales to boast visibility...).

I gave up on this product completely. I wouldn't have thought about it again had I not accidentally clicked into it's forum (I was aiming for Starbound). "What do you want from Star Drive 2?"

In summary this product is a promise. It is a shadow of what it could have been and it is well-and-truly abandoned; as even IF the developers take the time to add an additional patch simply to avoid it being permanently labeled 'abandonware' my confidence in the devs doing anything to address any additional bugs (least of all those that are likely to be added into the game by a half-arsed, smoke-and-mirrors patch) is nil.

A grave disappointment all round and I truly wish the best for any whom buy into this product (or other products) as I feel burned by this developer and wouldn't wish that upon them.

This game was released as an Early Access Game. Numerous features that were promised were never delievered. It went months between patches, and the last patch has broken the game. Instead of fixing the issues and delivering the promised features. The Developer is realeasing Star Drive 2 with the promised features that Star Drive 1 was supposed to have. He has stated repeatedly on the StarDrive forums and in the Steam forums that he will update SD1 when he feels like it... Zero gives indie developers a bad name. Even though Star Drive is a fun and entertaining game, it was released extremely buggy, it felt like it was half finished, only mods made it playable, and the developer has abandoned it for SD2. As such I cannot in good conscience recommend this game or any other games from this developer!

Is a perfect example why this was a total waste of my $29.99, I bought it under the pretense of Multiplayer being released first major patch after final release from my Friend who recommended the game. The Developer has come to the conclusion that by changing the Engine and flushing out his original Idea for a game, that he can now make ANOTHER game and wants money for it, the full game that he originally wanted to make but couldn't. This is the result made by a very poor decision long ago to use the wrong Engine <Sunburn> for his project, an engine that Microsoft dropped and everyone in the know knew was a dead-end, months before Zero decided to release the game as Final. Nothing about the programme changed between final beta release and the first day of Final Release in April.
The above mentioned Steam Group is a place for free discussion about Stardrive, and its Developer that You are going to purchase a beta, abandoned game from. The Developer will finish it on his whim alone, that could be years or decades. These are all direct from the developer, but sadly I can't direct you to the correct site to see them, he has, or has had his Minions, delete threads full of direct quotes from Zero you simply wouldn't believe if I wrote them here, thinking I was a Troll. I hope this shows I gave 90+ hours trying to play this game, and never completing 1 game. Buy this game if you like someone lying to you all the time, some do I suppose.
