Kerbal Space Program patch 1.1.3 is now available!

Hello everyone!

The 1.1.3 patch is now available! We’ve taken our time over the past couple of weeks to tackle as many issues as we could in this patch and the results speak for themselves: close to 100 fixes have been logged compared to the previous version of KSP, and we even found time to hide something small in the game that we’re sure a lot of long time fans will appreciate!

Check out the full changelog at our Forums.

Patch 1.1.2 is now available!

Hello everyone!

We noticed a number of issues persisted through the 1.1.1 patch earlier this week. We’re releasing patch 1.1.2 to address these issues before we head off to a long overdue vacation for the next couple of weeks. Patch 1.1.2 addresses issues with the user interface and landing legs, amongst others.

Check out the full changelog on our forums.

The Patch will start downloading through your Steam client automatically.

About This Game

In KSP you must build a space-worthy craft, capable of flying its crew out into space without killing them. At your disposal is a collection of parts, which must be assembled to create a functional ship. Each part has its own function and will affect the way a ship flies (or doesn't). So strap yourself in, and get ready to try some Rocket Science!

The game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, in which you are free to build anything you can think of; Science Mode, which lets you perform Scientific experiments to advance the knowledge of Kerbalkind and further the available technology; and Career Mode, in which you must manage every aspect of your Space Program, including administration strategies, Crew Management, Reputation, as well as taking up Contracts to earn Funds and upgrade your Space Center Facilities (or repair them).

Add to this the ability to capture asteroids (a feature done in collaboration with NASA), Mining for resources out across the furthest reaches of the Solar System, Constructing Bases and Space Stations in and around other worlds; plus literally thousands of mods from a huge active modding community, all add up into the award-winning game that has taken the space sim genre by storm.

Key Features

  • The Vehicle Assembly Building and the Space Plane Hangar allows players to build spacecraft out of any imaginable combination of parts.
  • Fully-fledged, Physics-based Space Flight Simulation ensures everything will fly (and crash) as it should.
  • Take your Kerbal crew out of the ship and do Extra Vehicular Activities.
  • Fly out to Moons and other Planets.
  • Procedural Terrain delivers detailed terrain at a vast scale. The Kerbal Planet is 600km in radius!
  • Mod-enabled, allows players to create new content and modify the game.
  • Ship systems. Keep an eye out for engine temperatures and fuel levels, and try not to explode.
  • Build ships with multiple stages, and jettison parts away as they burn out.
  • Full control over the ship’s setup allows for complex ships and advanced functionality.
  • Dock spacecraft together to build Space Stations, Massive Starships, or even surface bases on other worlds.
  • Manage your crewmembers, hire them, and send them out into space and make them into heroes.
  • Research and Develop new technologies to advance your Space Program.
  • Take on Missions to attract interest in your Space Program.
  • Discover new worlds and expand the scientific knowledge of Kerbalkind.
  • Extract valuable resources from all over the solar system.
  • And a whole lot more!

Fantastically wonderful rocket launch/space sim. I have been playing this game since early access days and I thoroughly enjoy it. I find myself coming back here and there to play. I have not read any dev blogs lately (if they have any), so I do not know if they plan on adding more content. Regardless, I wish that they would.

10/10 would learn from my mistakes again.

Superb, addictive game. Although game pace is somewhat slow in the planning stages, this dedicated effort adds value to the game, and makes latter stages more rewarding. Hard to stop once you've started playing.

Without mods this game is really boring. Wish the developers didn't rely on modders to finish their game for them.

Unsteadily launched a capsule into orbit, completed an orbit burn, did an EVA, got some science, prepared for re-entry, pitch, roll, turn to distribute the heat evenly on the heatshield, before the dawning realization hit -- I forgot the chute.

RIP Jebediah Kerman.

Kerbal Space Program

I started off with this game quite some time ago, back in the days when Kerbin was still neon green and all the fuel tanks were an ungodly blue color. I feel like the time has finally come for me to offer some decent feedback on this title, so that others know what to expect.

Graphics
This game isn't very impressive visually, and while its art style is mostly consistent that doesn't change the fact that it suffers from both somewhat low resolution textures and a general lack of detail. For example, the lack of settlements on the Earth-analogue planet. I won't criticize it too heavily, though. While orbiting a planet or moon, the game does shine quite nicely - literally, as the sun rises over your celestial body of choice. Despite its flaws, it definitely gets the job done better than its closest relative Orbiter, and one should keep in mind that it is an indie title. There's enough detail here to be satisfied, and that's without installing modifications.

Audio
The in-game audio design is decent, but it gets repetitive eventually. The explosions are particularly satisfying. The music is calming, but also gets extremely repetitive after some time. I would suggest modifications, or to mute it and put your own music on instead. There isn't a ton to talk about here.

Performance
This game's performance has improved considerably lately. Previously, I would've had a bone to pick with Kerbal Space Program, but it has made a turn for the better in the past year or so. It still won't run on just any PC, but even unimpressive laptops can run it on low settings fairly comfortably. I should note that performance is highly dependant on what is currently happening in-game. If you construct a large ship, the framerate will drop due to physics calculations. Also, the newest version of the game has some issues with regards to bugs and glitches, so you might want to wait for another patch or else revert back to an earlier version via Steam Beta.

Gameplay
This title is in a league of its own with regards to gameplay. I'm still not sure that I've ever played anything like it. It features (mostly) realistic orbital physics and revolves around a sandbox building experience where you construct virtually anything - ranging from space shuttles to fighter craft to rovers... even to boats - out of rocket and aircraft parts. Some people will spend all their time using aerodynamics mods to create realistic aircraft designs, others will recreate historical rocket missions. Some might colonize another planet, and others might just spend most of their time crashing into the ground or fumbling as they try to understand how space really works. No matter what you like doing, there's almost certainly something for everyone with Kerbal Space Program. If you're up to the challenge, you can even begin a career managing a space program, accepting contracts and missions to fund your launches. In my opinion, the only game that comes close to rivaling this title's gameplay is Orbiter, and that title is a much more in-depth space flight simulator that does not allow building your own ships out of different parts. Note that the game has no multiplayer as of this review's publishing.

Community Content
This game is absolutely phenomenal with its community content. From its humble beginnings, the aeronautical parts in-game were directly inspired by a modification, and the author of that mod was later hired by Kerbal Space Program's development team. There are now mods for everything. Realistic aircraft engines. Weaponry, ranging from machine guns to ballistic missiles. Careful recreations of historical spacecraft. Complete remakes of the physics system to be extremely realistic. In-game computer systems that will do things for you. Audio and visual modifications that completely change how the world looks. And, of course, complete overhauls to the Solar System, bringing things to the scale of real life. The game doesn't even have multiplayer, and someone took the time to code a fully functional mod to make it happen. The possibilities for community-driven content are endless in this game, and more is created every day.

Verdict
This game is a perfect example of everything right in PC gaming, and is probably one of my favorite titles on Steam. I gained a better understanding of orbital physics from it than I did by reading about orbital physics in textbooks and encyclopedias, and I still marvel at all the possibilities in this game. It is simply incredible how it has progressed from its Early Access days, and despite its flaws, and the questionable decisions made by its publisher, it is a fantastic title that I recommend everyone try.

I recommend Kerbal Space Program.

I have a love-hate relationship with this game.
It's the most rewarding game I've ever played.
It's also made me want to kill myself when I forget to add parachutes and don't realize until I'm re-entering Kerbin.

I love this game.

Fantastic game, in general. The game at first is very complex, and if you honestly don't have any past experience with applied physics, you might need/want to look up a lot of tutorials on YouTube (Scott Manley is your friend!). With 750 hours on the game currently, I still haven't done everything there is to do in the stock game, and with mods, you can make it as easy, hard, realistic, or fun as you want.

Though, for all players, new and experienced, I HIGHLY recommend pacing yourself. Go slow, don't travel to all the planets right away, because it is possible, but it's also no fun if you have no goals to set for yourself. I have over 700 hours on this game and I still haven't even tried to land a probe on Eeloo (farthest and most eccentric planet in the Kerbol system), so if you want to get the most fun out of this game, don't blow it all in one go!

I have spent so much time on Kerbal Space Program. This is one game I keep coming back to after years of play. The sandbox nature of the game combined with the numerous parts available leads to endless possibilities for Rockets, Planes, Space Probes, Boats, Trucks, Cars, and really anything you can think of. Take the base game and add mods like Infernal Robotics and Tweakscale and you have so much more to do. Then add an additional 150 mods from CKAN and there is literally no end to what can be accomplished. 10/10

Be Jebidiah Kerman
You cannot control your destiny
You ride rockets to infinity
and beyond you crash

Be Me
Build rockets that have no sense
Somehow it orbits
start the descent
heat builds
landing gear destroyed and lost to the inferno
deploy chutes
first chute gone lost in the flame
second chute holds but does not slow
third deploys
the last hope
hit the ground and the science pod explodes
but hey, Jeb is ok!
