Kerbal Space Program patch 1.1.1 is now available!

Hello everyone!

The 1.1.1 patch is now available! This patch will bring high priority fixes to the game. Although last week’s release of 1.1 went smoothly, there were still a few bugs left to fix. Considering we updated the game’s engine we’re all very pleased with the overall state of the game. Those of you who were around for the switch from Unity 3 to Unity 4 in version 0.18.4 will certainly remember how much impact changing the game engine can have on the game’s stability.

Check out the full changelog on our forums. The update should start downloading through your steam client automatically soon™.

About This Game

In KSP you must build a space-worthy craft, capable of flying its crew out into space without killing them. At your disposal is a collection of parts, which must be assembled to create a functional ship. Each part has its own function and will affect the way a ship flies (or doesn't). So strap yourself in, and get ready to try some Rocket Science!

The game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, in which you are free to build anything you can think of; Science Mode, which lets you perform Scientific experiments to advance the knowledge of Kerbalkind and further the available technology; and Career Mode, in which you must manage every aspect of your Space Program, including administration strategies, Crew Management, Reputation, as well as taking up Contracts to earn Funds and upgrade your Space Center Facilities (or repair them).

Add to this the ability to capture asteroids (a feature done in collaboration with NASA), Mining for resources out across the furthest reaches of the Solar System, Constructing Bases and Space Stations in and around other worlds; plus literally thousands of mods from a huge active modding community, all add up into the award-winning game that has taken the space sim genre by storm.

Key Features

  • The Vehicle Assembly Building and the Space Plane Hangar allows players to build spacecraft out of any imaginable combination of parts.
  • Fully-fledged, Physics-based Space Flight Simulation ensures everything will fly (and crash) as it should.
  • Take your Kerbal crew out of the ship and do Extra Vehicular Activities.
  • Fly out to Moons and other Planets.
  • Procedural Terrain delivers detailed terrain at a vast scale. The Kerbal Planet is 600km in radius!
  • Mod-enabled, allows players to create new content and modify the game.
  • Ship systems. Keep an eye out for engine temperatures and fuel levels, and try not to explode.
  • Build ships with multiple stages, and jettison parts away as they burn out.
  • Full control over the ship’s setup allows for complex ships and advanced functionality.
  • Dock spacecraft together to build Space Stations, Massive Starships, or even surface bases on other worlds.
  • Manage your crewmembers, hire them, and send them out into space and make them into heroes.
  • Research and Develop new technologies to advance your Space Program.
  • Take on Missions to attract interest in your Space Program.
  • Discover new worlds and expand the scientific knowledge of Kerbalkind.
  • Extract valuable resources from all over the solar system.
  • And a whole lot more!

Opened the game.
Built an overly ridiculous rocket.
Pressed 'launch'
exploded into a multitude of fireworks.
Kerbonaut is still alive.

10/10 would cheat death again.

26.8 Hours mark the time i've spent on this game
On steam.
________________________________________________________________________________

Off steam, you can assume that i've over a few hundred, and every single one of those hours was spent putting love, effort, and thought into the craft i made so i could accomplish a simple little goal i would set for myself

-Go to another Planet
-Achieve Orbit!
-Rendezvous with another orbitting vessel.

You see, things like that which seem so apparently simple become something so vastly entertaining and interesting to perform. This game doesn't even have to try to make you feel like a mastermind when you pull it off.
All of this has been done on Sandbox mode. If you're the more strategic type, "Squad"'s got you covered.
Just go play Career or Science mode. It keeps your mind running and forces you to keep a hand in your pocket too (Otherwise you'll go broke faster than sh*t.)

But for the people who want to enjoy this game for it's marvelous sights and fun physics?
Go ahead. This game is god's way of thanking you for being on this planet.

Because that is certainly what this game feels like.
Go do your spacey self a favor and purchase this!

This is a great game. I love the mechanics, the open world aspect, sandbox mode is so fun. There are so many challenges. With mods that give new parts and things like MechJeb, things can get really interesting and really fun. I will list some pros and cons.

Pros:
- Fun
- Doesn't get tiresome
- 1000's of mods
- Good interface

Cons:
- Crashes a lot
- Mods can have texture issues or bugs
- Some tasks are very difficult (eg. docking)
- Can get repetitive if you are not very skilled

Game has taught me more than my physics classes did.
I now have an understanding of orbital mechanics and KSP has piqued my interest in the space industry,

I also learnt that adding 'moar boosters' always helps.

The base game is good, and has improved significantly over time, however without mods it's not nearly as fun. Mods are what really make the game special because they make the game as complex or simple as you want. I'd highly recommend this game to someone who already like building things or tinkering or is looking for something new.

Can this take off?
Can this thing fly?
How do you turn? No, other way! No, I mean along other axis!
How high into sky can this thing get?
Why did I get my rocket higher, while having only half size fuel tank?
Ok, why don't I stay on orbit after I get out of the atmosphere?
Ok, I'm on orbit, great! Can you go to other places?
I aim my rocket right at the moon and accelerate, why my rocket misses it by A LOT?
Ok, It does matter what direction you go into orbit...
I want to catch up with another object on the orbit, so I have to... slow down?? Are you kidding?
....
months later...
So how do you land close to another object on a Mun surface? How do you aim and adjust your descend trajectory?
....
months later...
Do you think I can dock this rocket by landing it right on the top of another rocket on a surface? Having RCS would help a lot...
twenty minutes later...
Why did I not quicksave before I've started descend??
....
months later...
Do you think it's too late to apply for some junior position in NASA when you are almost 40?

I played this game with my son, now he wants to be an austronaunt.
10/10

Seriously, once upon a time if my son would have asked me "Dad, how did people land on the moon" I wouldn't know what to tell him. But today, when my son asked me that question (awww yis!), I simply said -- "I'll show you how", and we fired up the game. I was able, with the help of KSP, to show my son the beauty of trial and error, the difficulty of space travel and just how vast and empty space is, and how small we are. I let him built it himself, parachutes on a moon lander, backwards engines and everything. I remember his look of disbeleif and surprise as our first rocket exploded, the look of awe as we made orbit, his wide eyed gaze as we made our trajectory to the moon and he could actually see just how small earth is and how far we are from the moon. I remember his enthusiasm as we were about to touch down on the moon and we deployed his parachutes. Which didn't work. We crashed. Hard. After the inital shock was over, my son asked in surprise: "Dad why don't parachutes work on the moon?".

Oh man, thank you KSP. Thank you for making science fun!

I dare say that no other game features such a high-quality blend of sandbox fun, rewarding challenge and educational value. Realistic but fun, awe-inspiring but cute, this game ticks many unique checkboxes and should have a place in the collection of every gamer or fan of simulation games. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=673887355 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=672082639

KERBAL GUIDE TO SPACE

1. Parachute do not work in vacuum (or on Mun).

2. Kerbals dont like EVA in atmosphere flight

3. Rockets tend to explode.

4. You need fuel for journey back as well.

5. Kerbal cannot fly or have parachute.

6. Jetpack is dangerous suicide tool.

7. Chocolate help with depression and mental break downs caused by frustration

8. Water will not save you when you falling from 10k without parachute.

9. Never forget install landing gear.

10. In space no one can hear you Kerbal.

11/10 Would strand kerbal on Mun again.

People always talk about making games that are both fun and educational, lets be honest, most fail for one reason or another, not Kerbal! Kerbal space program, Coming in I didn't even understand how much I didn't know about orbital mechanics! But Kerbal space program unravels these secrets in a paced and comprehensive order and most importantly, its fun while doing it.
Everything from the designing the rocket to performing the actual mission, you don't get near space the first few tries but you feel yourself improving every time, and every stage feels awe inspiring. My first Apollo style moon landing was a highlight to my summer for the sense of acomplishment it entailed.
Even faliure can be fun, run out of fuel to early? mess up your design and realize after you make it to Duna?(mars), figure out what parts of the mission are salvageable, what science can still be performed. My first mission to Duna ran out of fuel before making into orbit but I was able to use the rotation control rockets to alter my path just enough to fling around its moon and slam into Dunas thin atmosphere to slow myself down. It's that kind of clever problem solving that brings the most satisfaction sometimes.

This game is fantastic, that is all I can say, it can be a little bit glitchy sometimes but it isn't unbearable. Sandbox mode is great and lets you build whatever you want. I've always liked sandbox games, especially this space game!

Bit of a learning curve, I now am going to try and build things in orbit. Haven't got to the moon yet, but put a satellite and a big space station core into orbit.

95/100

Nice job Squad, great devs, just make it run smoother and smoother in future updates!!!

This game is very unique and extremely fun. It is very challenging, but also extremely satisfying when you accomplish something. In addition, it quite expands your knowledge about physics.

There is no other game like this, but in some ways it bears similarities to Dwarf Fortress - both games have sharp learning curve, are extremely difficult beyond the very basics (albeit KSP is pretty forgiving) and the lesson you learn from them is that losing is fun.

KSP simulates physics very well, it includes objects burning when reentering atmosphere, different gravity on various bodies, and the whole solar system is actually simulated (planets and asteroids orbiting Sun, moons orbiting planets), while the game is a sandbox allowing you to do whatever you want. Do you want to fly to the Moon? Sure. Do you want to do research on an asteroid? Sure. Do you want to take that asteroid down to Earth? Sure! (But it's not gonna be easy!)

Oh, and you do actually learn some physics in the game. You have to. This, however, lets you understand space exploration and why is it so difficult and takes so much time. After all, in KSP you get to do a lot of stuff yourself!

The game doesn't have any drawbacks either. Perhaps some rare bugs or crashes, but very few. Other than that, the game is flawless.

It's not just the best space game. It's actually one of the best games ever made. I recommend it to literally everyone. Download a demo to try it out first and fly to the Moon.

There's just something special about getting a rocket to a far off planet and having it return safely home.

Simply floating in the vast emptiness of space on your way TOO a planet, or even just safely oribiting around the Mun is also extremely satisfying, it makes you really understand just how small we are in the seemingly eternal vast landscape of outer space.

Pick this one up if you like building things, failure, rockets, spaaaace, and exploration.

This is a great game. It does have a steep learning curve, but it is enjoyable at every step, even with failures you encounter. Those failures make it so much more satisfying when you do succeed in constructing your first successful craft. It is definitely worth the price(and even better if you can get it on discount like I did at 40% off!). It will definitely make you think more creatively(which is has for me at least). Give it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

After playing this game for some time i kind of feel obliged to give a review.

Kerbal Space Program, or short "KSP" starts you off with a space center. Mange it, build up your own space program. Of course you get to crash fly your ships.

I mainly play the "Sandbox mode". Here you don't have any restrictions on what (not) to do.

In your space center you have two main buildings for building ships. The Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) and the Space Plane Hangar (SPH).
The SPH mainly is for planes and SSTOS, the VAB for rockets.
You start your ship simple, command pod, fuel tank, engine. Maybe a parachute (optional). After that you add what you think to be neccessary. This includes, but is not limited to, antennas, batteries, solar panels, landing gear, heatshields, wheels, wings. Make sure not to forget anything, you might get stuck in space.

After building your ship, the fun really starts. You get to go to space! Go you!
Just to realise that going up is not enough. Start over.
Go sideways.
Run out of fuel.
Start over.
Repeat. Until you get to orbit.
By now you have probably realised that your knowledge might not be enough, so start looking up tutorials. Try to recreate them and reacht the Moon (Mun in KSP).

After a lot of time, planning and trial and error you manage to crash land your ship on the mun.
I will have a hard time describing it, but the feeling is amazing.

I know this review is by no means perfect. I don't think it does KSP justice. People have written essays on the most basic things.

If you are interrested in space, flight, planes, tinkering and a "few" explosions here and there, get this game.
Just be aware that this game is very heavy on physics and (rocket) science. And a bit of math (not too much tho).
