このゲームについて

World of Goo is a multiple award winning physics based puzzle / construction game made entirely by two guys. Drag and drop living, squirming, talking, globs of goo to build structures, bridges, cannonballs, zeppelins, and giant tongues. The millions of Goo Balls that live in the beautiful World of Goo are curious to explore - but they don't know that they are in a game, or that they are extremely delicious.
  • Mysterious Levels - Each level is strange and dangerously beautiful, introducing new puzzles, areas, and the creatures that live in them.
  • World of Goo Balls - Along the way, undiscovered new species of Goo Ball, each with unique abilities, come together to ooze through reluctant tales of discovery, love, conspiracy, beauty, electric power, and the third dimension.
  • The Sign Painter - Someone is watching you.
  • World of Goo Corporation - Congratulations! World of Goo Corporation is the Global Leader in Goo and Goo Related Product, including World of Goo Corporation Trademark Brand Soft Drink Beverage and World of Goo Corporation Trademark Brand Facial Exfoliating Lotion. Succulent!
  • Massive Online Competition - Human players around the world compete in a living leaderboard to build the tallest towers of goo in World of Goo Corporation's mysterious sandbox. World of Goo Corporation is contractually obligated to state that everyone is a winner and is enthusiastic to celebrate everyone's tower building opportunities equally.

    Congratulations, and good luck!

It's a fun game. It's got a lot of puzzle variety and a pretty good amount of content. But it's so bare bones in certain areas that I was absolutely convinced it was a poorly done mobile port until somebody corrected me.

What am I talking about? Dispite being a PC game first, it has no options menu of any kind, you can't correct the resolution, change the graphics (though I doubt you would need to) or even do something as simple as change the game volume. Distinguishing between the balls must be hell if you're colorblind, a menu option for that would have been really helpful for a lot of people. It does not lock the mouse to one screen if you have multiple monitors, but still requires that you move your mouse to the edge of the screen in order to pan the camera. It has no keyboard controls, even though it could have direly used some, such as the ablity to pan the camera with the arrow keys which would have delt with the mouse not locking issue, and a key for undo which would remove the need to click those stupid bugs (or more often, accidentally click one when you're trying to do a quick action).

Did I like it? I kept playing through the problems and beat it, so yeah I must have liked it dispite its problems. At the same time, would I recommend it? no, especially not at the normal $10 price tag. I found the missing features made it feel very unpolished and at the price point there are a lot of better games. Maybe on sale I'd recommend it, but that isn't an option.

YES, but if you are oversensitive like me and cry at anything getting hurt.... I mean anything... play it when you are feeling emotionally strong.

puzzels where interesting and the ability to skip was like.... goooddness especially the amount you could skip increase with each level. didn't use it much because completing things feels better but it being there was nice

Timeless Classic
What can I say about World of Goo that does it anymore justice then it already does itself.
Ok well let’s start with the basics, it’s a 2D building game of sorts.... you use different types of goo balls to complete different tasks and ultimately get you're goo balls to the pipe at the end of the level. You can then use those collected good balls (up to 300) in a free build mode which is you build you're tower and.... watch it fall over :'(

The game's story has a unspoken depth to it and gives a sense of hope as the goo balls do their best to make their world a better and more goo-full place. The soundtrack is incredibly well done and fits the sense of the games art style and story depth perfectly.

There are 5 chapters, each with their own little story to tell as well as each level having its own "OCD" challenge for those achievement hunters like myself.

I played this game years ago on a crappy laptop just doing the story and remember it to this day. I recently went through it again doing all the Achievements and completing the game for a second time.

9.5/10
World of Goo is a one of a kind that no other game has been able to or attempted to match it

Given the number of people that recommend this game as a great, classic puzzler it seemed natural for me to pick up this title.

Frankly, I haven't been impressed at all. I don't find this game puzzling or fun, just boring and quite tedious. Linking together a bunch of goo balls is not at all satisfying.

The only thing I have found fun is the humor found behind the sign painter.

Gameplay

World of Goo is a 2D physics-based puzzler with gameplay that revolves around building structures out of "goo balls" in order to reach a pipe at the end of stage. While this is a relatively simple set up for a puzzle game, the way in which the developers build upon it and create puzzle is ingenious. There are constantly new elements being introduced, from goo balls that can be detached or float, to environmental obstacles that may interact differently with different types of goo.

Going along with this, the challenges vary greatly. While the end goal is always the same, the level design means that different levels require totally different strategies. One level may require you to build the tallest tower you can while another may require you to build a small mobile structure while avoiding saws or fire. Another may have you selectively sacrifice some of your goo. This combination of different elements and challenges means that the game never once gets stale or boring. Each level feels wholly unique and the steady progression of difficulty and complexity is finely tuned. I found myself playing World of Goo for much longer sessions than I set out to. One important aspect of this is "time bugs" which allow you to go back in time by just a single goo ball placement. This means that you don't have to restart a whole level every time your structure fails and keeps the game from ever getting frustrating.

Graphics

World of Goo is a real joy to look at. The game a sort of off-kilter cute but twisted look that is not unlike something in a Tim Burton film. It's a unique aesthetic that I personally enjoyed.

More importantly, the visuals inform the gameplay in important ways. All gooballs and obstacles look very distinct and little details give you clues about your environment, like leaves blowing around giving you an idea of the wind speed and its effect on your structure. The result is a game that is very easy to understand and interpret, allowing you to simply focus on the task at hand.

Sound Design

In a word: excellent. The game features a variety of different tracks with some pretty great orchestral scores. I found that this music really set the tone of each level and left me feeling surprisingly exhilarated for as methodical as the gameplay actually is.

The sound effects are also great, with many sounds that are simultaneously cute, funny, and gross.

Story

The story of World of Goo is very vague and centers around the world-dominating World of Goo Corporation which harvest gooballs to make a variety of products. While it's never clear exactly what is going on, the story goes through themes of oppression, environmentalism, vanity, rebellion, etc. in an effective way. It exists more to evoke a certain emotion than tell a compelling narrative and, when combined with the music and visuals, is very effective in that.

Overall

Every aspect of World of Goo works and, more importantly, they all work perfectly together. It's a near perfect example of an indie game and there is good reason for it to be considered a classic. If for some reason you haven't played World of Goo, I whole-heartedly recommend it.

A very unique & challenging puzzle game. this game is worth picking up when it is on sale. But I wouldn't recommend spending money on it full price as it does eventually get a bit repetitive. I was shocked & amazed how they were able to keep adding new goo blobs to interact with to help change the experience up & add new content on later lv.

Man, this brings me back to when I first got my Wii. I played it off that crappy Nintendo shop, played it for a couple hours, got frustrated and uninstalled it. Don't judge me though, I was only, like, seven yars old. Now I'm finally finished with this game. It was frustrating but it I don't regret it at all. 2DBoy is awesome, I love these devs and the world that they've created. So, if you haven't played this game, or Little Inferno, I highly recommend its graphics, music, story and lore, even if there isn't much, and the puzzles, of course!

This is obviously mostly personal preference considering how many people love this game but I just absolutely hate physics-based "puzzle" games on principle and World of Goo is a classic example of the genre. Just the fact they're called puzzle games irks me as, to me, puzzle games are precise things that require rigorous, systematic thinking to arrive at a concrete solution, not juggling a bunch of blobs that are constantly moving around and liable to bring your carefully crafted but inherently unstable structure crashing down at any moment. That's not puzzling, it's just frustrating.

FYI: I know my game time is little, but trust me, I've played this baby on the wii al the way

This is a fantastic construction game. It has creative levels, catchy soundtracks, a quite intriguing story told by ''your friend, the sign writer'', good humor, and just overall a very good game to pick up, build a few towers/bridges with Goos and just chill out.

It does get tougher the more you progress, but the levels never felt cheap or unfair to me

World of Goo is an absolute classic by my measure. It shines very brightly, and is a must-play for any indie game enthusiast (I have many many hours in this game, just not on Steam).

Essentially, the goal is to build architecturally-sound structures to bridge gaps. Its like a wild version of Bridge Simulator. The building mechanics are really fun, but arguably the best part of this game is the artwork and definately the storyline. While the story is quite abstract, but absolutely emotionally engaging.

The only negative I can really mention is that the game can feel a bit dated, at this point. I loaded it up this year and all the charm is still there, but the graphics and controls have not aged all that well. Regardless, its a classic.

I originally played this on the Nintendo wii and I must say it is so much easier using a mouse. This of course makes the game more enjoyable. This is challenging and fun and I highly recommend it. Long story short really fun puzzle game. Reminded me of making bridges in school using tooth picks and marshmallows.
