No screaming 12 year olds. No noobtubers or 360 noscopers. No "I f**ked your mother last night". And no campers.
Only rocket jumps, strafing, rail gunz and 100% pure skills.

11/10 - Would play again.... for real.

Quake III Arena is a true Arena Shooter classic and one of the best first person shooter games of all time. Quake III Arena will always be one of my most favorite FPS games, and it's fun never stops.

The ONLY time I would EVER go back to QL is if they rolled back the DISGUSTING update.

My sister and I used to play this all the time. She isn't here anymore and just having this installed on my Steam library is the most absolute important thing in my mental state. I'm not giving a sad story however, what I'm telling you is this game will leave you with memories. Out of all the things my sister and I did, this is the strongest memory. This game is legendary and I know not many people play it at all anymore. Though this game is worth every cent put into it ever. to anyone who has played this, I know you have tons of memories too.

A true classic. This game will probably live forever in the hearts and minds of its fans. It is THE definitive FPS arena deathmatch game. I fear to imagine how many hours I have in my old CD version of this game.

Fraggin' since 1999. Excellent/10

Classic meat and potatoes FPS deathmatch done to perfection.

It's fast, fluid, acrobatic, skillful, well balanced gunfighting. Gameplay this good will always be good.

Considering Q3A is now 16 years old the graphics still do the job quite well. The bad@ss glitchy industrial electronic music fits the style and pace of the game perfectly.

The community for this game is great, there are tonnes of mods and custom maps to keep you busy.

Play it, enjoy it, don't camp, just bunnyhop.

Fantastic game, even though this game is quite old I'm still playing it at some point if I get bored. Lots of cool characters to select from, unique guns, great gore and super fun to play! I love the maps very creative ideas just to send you flying away with the best scores.

I played singleplayer, oh god this was a funny experience for me, but you can actually talk to the bots! I did it when I first started, oh god it was priceless you may remember Justin Bieber for his most hated song 'Baby', you can encounter that little easter egg when you talk to the bot.

Interesting yet funny game, wish most of my friends got this so I could play with them sometime.

Install OSP. The instructions suck, but all you need to do is take 4 of the files that start with "zz" and put them in q3base. Not the one with "server" in the name, that one will make it so single player games don't work. Now if you open console with ~ you can type "/ch_crosshaircolor 1" for example. I think names work too, like Red or Blue. Some servers don't like OSP. If you want to play on one that kicks you, take those files out. Keep the entire OSP folder in your main Q3 folder.

Other important settings:
\rate 25000
\snaps 40
\cl_maxpackets 125
\com_maxfps 125
\com_hunkMegs 128
\cg_drawTeamOverlay 1
\cg_noProjectileTrail 1

\cg_enemyModel "keel/pm"
\cg_enemyColors "iiii"
\cg_trueLightning 1

Make sure your mouses polling rate is 500 or less or your gun will get stuck firing sometimes, or not fire at all occasionally.

If it keeps forcing your Game Key to Upper Case go into the games directory in Q3base and edit the key file with a text editor. Make it lowercase - save it - then right click the file and go to properties - make it read only. It may still ask for your key after a match but it's just a glitch, ignore it. As long as it doesn't do it BEFORE a match it makes no difference.

I just bought this again. After not been playing it for like 6-7 years.

And oh boy was i surprised. The game is still extremely good. And also looks good, 15 years after it was made.
You got to wonder how John Carmack pulled this off. The man is a genious.

Do not let the 1999 year of release scare you, this game is still extremely impressive, and highly competative.
Actually one of the most competastive shooters of all time. And one of the games that created Fatal1ty :)

Up until a few days ago I had never actually played this game. I just finished single player on skill 3, so might as well do a writeup.

It can be a bit jarring getting a hang of the rocket launcher at first, so you might want to try on skill 2 or even 1 to start with. But once you've picked up a rhythm you can turn up the skill level a bit and just enjoy yourself.

The soundtrack is one of the best I've encountered in a game.

Remember that I've really only done *single player*. For a game that was designed mostly for *multiplayer*. And it was still hella fun.

(Ignore the length of time I've spent playing this, I've mostly been playing it in ioquake3. It has red/cyan stereo support. Oh yes.)

The perfect deathmatch game with an excellent ballence between speed and accuracy.

That it still works after 15 years and is good for lower powered laptops makes it almost essential.

Add to this the thousands of third party mods and you have to say this is one of the best games ever made.

Classics are timeless. No matter how many years has passed, as the king of FPS, the quake series will bring the excitement of unreal combat to people.
