About This Game

1998. HALF-LIFE sends a shock through the game industry with its combination of pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. Valve's debut title wins more than 50 game-of-the-year awards on its way to being named "Best PC Game Ever" by PC Gamer, and launches a franchise with more than eight million retail units sold worldwide.

NOW. By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him.

The intense, real-time gameplay of Half-Life 2 is made possible only by Source®, Valve's new proprietary engine technology. Source provides major enhancements in:

  • Characters: Advanced facial animation system delivers the most sophisticated in-game characters ever seen. With 40 distinct facial "muscles," human characters convey the full array of human emotion, and respond to the player with fluidity and intelligence.
  • Physics: From pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks respond as expected, as they obey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.
  • Graphics: Source's shader-based renderer, like the one used at Pixar to create movies such as Toy Story® and Monster's, Inc.®, creates the most beautiful and realistic environments ever seen in a video game.
  • AI: Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can assess threats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is at hand.

Gordon Freeman.
Gordon Freeman has the letter 'G' in it.
Do you know what else has the letter 'G' in it?
Thats right.
The galapagos penguin.
The galapagos penguin is a bird.
Do you know what else is a bird?
Thats right.
The chuck Will's widow
But what do birds have to do with Half Life, you say.
Lets find out!
So far we mentioned 2 birds.
The word ''two'' contains 3 letters.
The word ''letters'' contains 2 letters 'T'
2 + 3 - 2 = 3

You see I never liked rhino's, but that's ok cause this game doesn't have them.

So when you start the game you are greeted with sexual sounds of raviolli and meatballs, made by famous chef, Adolf Hitler. But sadly you don't get to enjoy these banana's because then general mc♥♥♥♥face puts you on a train with Morgan Freeman, btw it's not really Tim Alan. You are then told it's safer here, and the main character, Master Chief, says "What can you tell me about the reapers?" So as you make your way through the holocaust, I mean train station you meet your old friend Barney the zebra, and he tells you to ♥♥♥♥ off and get a real job. And that's when my power cut out because I didn't pay the electric bill. I then proceeded to get a job at Mcdolan's, and hated every single moment of it. The end.

This game gets 7/Charmander at best.

Ho rigiocato HL2 dopo 10 anni.

I replayed HL2 after 10 years. It took me four days to finish it, against the month took 10 years ago. That reassures me more than a little about my memory and learning ability, apparently not yet completely devastated by age ... The game is still very good, and when you start it is hard to stop (a bit like with cigarettes). Certainly the astonishment felt the first time, for graphics, physics and gameplay today is no more, but the fun is still yet assured. The obligatory paths, the puzzles never too complicated and very good chances of saving make the game always smooth and never frustrating. The HDR made even more realistic graphics (for a ten years old game, of course). A little slow the loadings, and saving often produced momentary jamming, particularly annoying to hear.
It is in any case a crucial game, a milestone not to be missed.

Six years is a long wait for a sequel, but it was well worth it. In that time, Valve created their own game engine, known as Source, and with the Gravity Gun quickly became THE game to copy. Like ClassicDOOM before it, most FPS games that came after Half-Life 2 valiantly attempted to copy the in-game physics engine that allows to to catch and repel in-game props. Many of them succeeded, but Half-Life 2 was the first to do it, and gamers know where to give credit where credit is due.

Once again, you play as Gordon Freeman, mute savior of humankind. Reawakened by the G-Man from the previous game "some time later," you find that the world as you know it is no longer. The Combine have successfully invaded and subjuated humanity, and it's only a matter of time before Man becomes just another X-stamp on the Combine's evolutionary whiteboard. Unless you can rise up to the challenge of liberating your very species, that time will approach far quicker than you'd like.

One of the first FPS games to introduce drivable vehicles, adding the Gravity Gun is just icing on this cake (that's a metaphor, not a lie). Chock full of references and easter-eggs, Valve should be proud that their title has continued to successfully carry the FPS banner.

"November 2004 : Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2 are officially released on PC around the world, bringing in a new era for the First Person Shooter genre of video game, with advanced graphics & physics." -Wikipedia

You'll end up admiring beautiful landscapes, killing hundreds of zombies or aliens that speak English, shooting a gunship with a gun mounted on an airboat, or with an RPG, sniping enemies with a crossbow, and even destroying a portal to another dimension. And all of this in the Source Engine, arguably the best game engine ever made (even my crappy laptop with a built-in graphics card can run it with 50 FPS with every setting maxed and I'm pretty sure a Raspberry Pi can run it as well).
In my advice, Half-Life 2 should be considered as one of the best video game ever made. The storyline is epic and the gameplay is totally immersive and nearly o.r.g.a.s.m.i.c. Oh and btw, happy 10th birthday Half-Life 2!
