Welcome, welcome to City 17...
Valve titles always get to me. I'm not sure how, but they do. Half Life 2, the sequel to the smash-hit game: Half Life, is a first person shooter that tells one of the most amazing stories in gaming, and will surely leave an impact on even the most hardened of gamers.
Step into the shoes, glasses, and signature crowbar of Gordon Freeman, a ex-worker at the Black Mesa research facility: a desert fortress responsible for the downfall of humanity, and the uprising of a Facist Alien Race, known as the Combine.
After a lecture at the hands of the mysterious Gman, our Freeman makes his way through the streets of City-17, an unknown European City under the control of the Combine. After a not so pleasant run-in with the Combine Civil Protection in an apartment complex, Gordon meets Alyx, a young woman helping with a growing resistance movement against the Combine. Alyx is a character you begin to care about during the game; I actually found myself taking bullets for her off of impulse, because I strangley cared for her well being.
During your foray against the Combine, you will discover other survivors from the Black Mesa catastrophe: Barney, Dr. K, and Eli all help you on your way, and feel all too real.
By the end stretch of the game, I was furious at the antagonist of the game, and showed unrelenting agression towards his guards and soldiers. By the last seconds of the game, I had become the Freeman, and you can too...
