About This Game

1998. HALF-LIFE sends a shock through the game industry with its combination of pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. Valve's debut title wins more than 50 game-of-the-year awards on its way to being named "Best PC Game Ever" by PC Gamer, and launches a franchise with more than eight million retail units sold worldwide.

NOW. By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him.

The intense, real-time gameplay of Half-Life 2 is made possible only by Source®, Valve's new proprietary engine technology. Source provides major enhancements in:

  • Characters: Advanced facial animation system delivers the most sophisticated in-game characters ever seen. With 40 distinct facial "muscles," human characters convey the full array of human emotion, and respond to the player with fluidity and intelligence.
  • Physics: From pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks respond as expected, as they obey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.
  • Graphics: Source's shader-based renderer, like the one used at Pixar to create movies such as Toy Story® and Monster's, Inc.®, creates the most beautiful and realistic environments ever seen in a video game.
  • AI: Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can assess threats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is at hand.

When I finished all games made by Valve I looked for other games with good stories. I played Bioshock, Deus EX, Far Cry Call of Duty (LoL), Borderlands but to be honest Half-Life 1,2 and episodes are the best so far.
Some games have great gameplay, some have good balance, some have great story. Half-Life has them all. This game is my favorite game since I played it.
I really want to play another game belongs this franchise.

10/10

Half-Life, what is it, is it a video game, could it be a tale that no other game could do without getting it wrong, yes...
For me, Half-Life was the first ever game I bought and owned, I remember that day. August 2nd, 2007, my father got me my very own steam account, and my first game on that steam account, MY VERY OWN GAME! It was amazing to me, I remember fearing for my life, crying as the civil protection was "clearing" the apartments, I never would have imagined the police would ever be my foe, back at the age of 7, I remember questioning why the CP's were doing this, and why they acted so, un humane (until I later learned about American Police problems). Or when I first encounter Alyx Vance, Barney, Doctor Kliner, and his pet head crab, Lamar. But what about when I first saw the Air Boat, and yeah, an air boat is cool on its own, BUT WHAT ABOUT A UPGRADE THAT WOULD MAKE ME AND THE HUNTER CHOPER EQUALS, AND ABLE TO FIGHT IT ON! I fought with the metallic flying beast, and we both knew only one of us would survive to tell the tale. I remember when I first met D0G, a robotic canine, well, similar, but more then just a yaye-high pet. Then I grew of anger as the combine destroyed everything that was of Black Mesa East. I had to go to Ravenholm, a place that even my most cherished companion, Alyx, feared and avoided to look towards that direction, I wondered why this was the case. But I had to put my friends fears of that pace aside, and march in, and continue my journey towards the end goal. As I slowly put my foot on the old, and ruined grass, I see death, despair, and danger. But sadly, my 7 year old self feared Ravenholm a lot, I guess you could say, it was too much for me. Ever since, I never escaped Ravenholm...

BUT! In the summer of 2012, I returned to Half-Life 2, played through it again, and looked towards that dreaded place as Alyx was explaining about it, before the combine attack. I knew I had to finish Half-Life 2! And so, I got a ♥♥♥♥ing huge 2 L bottle of Coca Cola, and journeyed through that place, I remember my hart beating as those Fast Zombies were clawing at me, and waiting for that small platform to carry me away from danger. Then me, and a creepy religious man with a double barrel shotgun walked through the graveyard, and at that last moment, he sacrificed himself for ME! I remember my shocked mind as he ran through fire, laughing and killing the zombies. I turned towards the exit, and ran without looking back. I remember seeing the sun again, and never felt the same ever again. I remember seeing the Jeep and was shocked, first an Air boat, now a Jeep with, a, umm, laser gun, oohhh boy, the looks were deceiving, I then killed my first gunship, and crossed the large, shaking bridge, and avoiding the train as it did its routine...

Oh yeah, then the sand traps, I ran right through that, then the prison, oh boy, I remember laughing as I saw the antlions take down combine and/or the turrets, and seeing how loyal they were to me, this was just the beginning, then me and Alyx teleport in the FUTURE, well more like a week, but then all of humanity decided to start an uprising due to the signal after teleporting from the citadel. Then I fought lots of striders, soldiers, CP's, gunships, till I got to the citadel. That first moment where intense music started right as I exit a sewage pipe, to see the citadel slowly mining into the planet, I had to stop them, and so I did, with the help of the combine and their ♥♥♥♥ed up anti-weapon device, they modified my anti-gravity gun, to grab soldiers, and also, have an higher carnage. And I fought with Breen, destroyed the citadel, and saw the Gman again, this all felt amazing ,the carnage, the intense finally, and the perfect cliff hanger for the next 2 episodes, that I got later...

If you made it this far in reading, I thank you for reading an gamers story, of Half-Life 2 and a young gamer...

Throughout 12 years, the game still a legend. I rememver, what for the first time I launched it in 2005 (A year later after release), and it's still remains a real good game, which I enjoyed one more time. Out of simplicity, I would say:

  • Graphics are good
  • Sountracks are good
  • Gameplay is great
  • Simple story

I can't say everything about this game, because I am late for a review, and people already described everything in a details. But the only thing, what I want to say - it's worth it. If you still think about "Get this game or not?", I would definitely say to you - get it. That's all.

"Rise and shine,Mr. Freeman,rise and shine"- G-man
Half-Life 2 is the sequel to Half-Life,the game by Valve that pretty much wrote the rules for FPSs way back in 1998.
I haven't played very much of this game myself, but I can guarantee that anyone who plays it will end up loving this game, even those that didn't play HL1 before playing this game(like me).

The Story
Gordon Freeman is brought out of stasis by the G-Man,who inserts him in a train arriving at the fictitous City 17,which was taken over by Combine forces. He eludes the Combine forces and meets Alyx and Barney, and joins the Lambda Resistance. He gets to Dr. Kleiner's lab and assists them in attempting to get a teleporter to teleport him and Alyx to Dr. Eli Vance's lab. The teleportation fails, and he goes through City 17 on foot to get to Eli's lab. He arrives at Black Mesa East and meets up with Eli, where he is captured and taken to a combine prison,Nova Prospekt. Gordon goes through a zombie infested town named Ravenholm and is given a Dune Buggy, which he uses to travel to Nova Prospekt. Eli,Alyx, and Gordon escape, the combine teleporter they used exploding in the process. Gordon and Alyx learn they were in a "slow teleport"during which a week has passed. In their absence, the Resistance mobilized against the combine, turning City 17 into a battleground. Alyx is captured by the Combine and taken to the Citadel, with Gordon, aided by Barney and D0g,goes to the Citadel. He gets caught in a Combine"confiscation chamber",which destroys all of his weapons except for the Gravity Gun,the energy enhancing it's capabilities and turning it into a superior weapon. He is captured riding in a Combine transport pod and is taken to Dr. Breen's office, where he is holding Eli and Alyx captive. Breen explains his plans for further conquest of the humans by the Combine. Breen tries to escape through a portal, but Gordon destroys the portal reactor with the super-charged Gravity Gun. Breen is annihilated in the resulting explosion, but just before Gordon and Alyx get killed, time is frozen, and the G-Man appears, praising Gordon for his actions in City 17 and the Citadel, and puts Gordon back into stasis.

The characters are pretty cool, even if some of the characters can tend to be annoying*looks at Barney*

The music is pretty cool, tho the game mostly relies on ambiance.

The weapons are pretty good, just really your standard FPS weapons, except the Gravity Gun is added, which lets you move almost any object at will. Heck, you get a crowbar also x) :)

This is an amazing game overall,it seriously deserves the critical acclaim that it's gotten, and I HIGHLY recommend this game, even to those that haven't played Half-Life before,it's def worth the 10 bucks

10/10 from me :)
