I honestly only bought the game so that I could relive my childhood. One of the most frustrating and nostalgic experiences. I remember reading the guide that was in a gamer magazine to tell me how to beat one of the bosses. The idea of being in a dream world with a vibrant and rich world and lively characters fascinated me along with the idea of a novel Sega game that wasn't sonic (don't get me wrong, I love sonic, but this was a nice breath of fresh air).

And let me tell ya how much BETTER it is to play with the graphics being more solid as opposed to the Sega Saturn! (which I still have with the original NiGhts into Dreams. And I didn't have the analog controller, so it was freaking hard. So is playing on a keyboard.)

So yeah, really only thing this can offer me is nostalgia.

Without a doubt one of the absolute greatest games ever made. For one moment in history, all of Sonic Team's aesthetic ambitions gelled into something other-worldly.

This has been one of my favourite games since the Saturn, and this version is pretty much the same game with shinier graphics. I haven't had any technical problems with it so far and the controller is smoother to play with than a Saturn controller. NiGHTs is difficult to compare with other games, it is like a platformer but with lots of flashy acrobatic flying around the screen instead of jumping. The system will take a lot of getting used to but after that it's actually quite a simple game to play. It is good for short play sessions, most of the challenge will come from trying to beat your own scores as the process of completing the game is quite easy. The story and world are fun, you are in a dream world being invaded by nightmares, it ranges from chill-out to surreal to faintly creepy. There is no death, only running out of time, but the timing can be very tight and enemies will knock 5 seconds off your 120 second time limit. The music is pretty cool, if a little experimental.

As a Sega Saturn fan you MUST have this game, It-s very interesting to see the HD conversion, althought the classic Saturn version is there for you to enjoy, along with the christmas nights, wich is fantastic. I would say I bought it more because of nostalgia than anything else, still I think is an excellent choice to buy it if you ever played before, or just if you wanna have a little piece of gaming history that SEGA helped us have

Game plays very well with an analog controller, You need the XBOX 360 Controller or your out of luck playing with a keyboard it wont work well. - However I feel that this game is locked at 30 FPS and you cant achieve higher performance even though you have the higher end hardware. The good news though its very smooth and fluid and stays true to the original Sega Saturn game. The only complain that I have is that in Sega Saturn Mode- the game is not a true emulation - its a remake using texture mapping without filtering - nothing more. I guess Saturn Emulation is hard to achieve. While there are many emulators out there they require a high system requirement and even at that you don't get accurate results. Nonetheless though , if you want a trip down memory lane , its here for you , but if you know how to beat the Sega Saturn game, you will finish this in mere moments......

okay but being a little drunk and high at 2 am on a monday and experiencing NiGHTS for the first time is probably going to be an experience i remember for the rest of my life

just. a purposefully un-gendered purple character defeating the insecurities of children that manifest in their dreams in a rampaging world of colors and textures that defies common gameworld conceptions of dimensions and movement

there is nothing else like it

i was not prepared and now nothing will ever be the same

It's Awesome to see the Classic Sega Saturn Title remade in HD and brought for us Sega Fans and Nights Fans. : D The HD Re-Release is just as great as the original saturn version, And the extra content like being able to play the game with the updated graphics or the graphics of the Original Sega Saturn Version is just the icing on the cake! It also includes some of the content seen in the Christmas Nights into Dreams, the Original Bonus Disc for the Sega Saturn. Even if you already own the Saturn Version of the game (Which I do) or the PS2 Remake (which this HD Port is based off of) don't hesitate to pass this one up! : D It's worth going through this game again!

If you grew up with this game, this is a good conversion (though a controller is a must) and the HD graphics mode offers a nice, if subtle upgrade to the original graphics. However, like most of Sega's early 3D games (Virtua Fighter excluded), it was somewhat lacking in polish to begin with and as such hasn't stood the test of time well. I have a lot more respect for the team that did Journey of Dreams after revisiting this than I did before because, while that game failed spectacularly, the original NiGHTS didn't exactly give them a lot to work with. A lot of the reason why Journey of Dreams was bad is that NiGHTS itself, by modern standards, isn't very good.

I'm giving this a recommend, but that only applies if you're already familiar with the game and would like to play it again without dealing with old hardware. On that level, this succeeds abundantly, and I hope Sega will continue to do re-releases of their older games. But if you're not already a fan of NiGHTS, this is a skip. It's a product of a bygone era of gaming, and a company that was struggling to find its identity in a changing industry, and it shows. NiGHTS was clever and beautiful for its time, but now it mostly seems counterintuitive and dated.

Managed to overcome my childhood trauma of not completing Nights because the CD was scratched as hell back then.

A sega saturn classic with Christmas NiGHTS included. It's got fun and wacky gameplay with a pretty and colorful atmosphere and some catchy tunes. It's an immediate classic.

As much as it pains me as an original owner of Nights (Sega Saturn was my favorite system of that gen) I can't recommend this game to noobs. Not because it wasn't fun, but because it hasn't aged well and Sega made no effort to upgrade it. Not much is different from what you can find in games now with analog control and free roaming. It feels alot like modern games since it was at the beginning of modern games, but it's just not as good. The world isn't really open and the models and textures suck. In this golden age of gaming, where casual games you can play in short burts are becoming the new AAA all they would have had to do is upgrade the graphics--some ugly models and textures. Don't let old hardware limitations ruin a lasting experience and lasting long-tail revenues.

Secrets of Rætikon actually reminded me of Nights, because of it's beauty and controls, it hit me like playing Nights for the first time did, but it was new. Nostalgia alone just doesn't get it sometimes. Sega may have got my money, but for people like me who always wanted this game back, just skip it and wait for the new indies to release games that actually have more content, better grahics, and some just as good of designs and gamplay as what used to be $40-50+ games.

I can't get the game to work. I downloaded and installed the game 2 X with the same results. The game will start but there is no video. My computer is well above the system requirements. This is not the only steam problem I have seen over the years.
