It's a good port! You'll probably want a controller for it.

This was by far and away Yuji Naka's best game. It's an early illustration of how games can be art. How through level design and gameplay you could create a cohesive story with virtually no narrative. Armed only with metaphors and imagery you could create a story in a way that no other art form could allow.

In my 15 years owning NiGHTS on Saturn; I never realized any of this. It was only when I repurchased this game recently that I started seeing how brilliant the story is. I won't ruin the imagery and how I see the ways it relates to the overall theme. I will say however that it's a timeless coming of age story. Each and every piece of scenery is a metaphor for growing up. One can quite literally relive different phases of their childhood through this imagery.

When I say every piece of scenery, art, gameplay, and level design. I mean it quite literally. It was all designed metaphorically to relate to the process of maturing into an adult. You could write a book about how the art can be interpreted alone.

Not only this, but it's so simple anyone can complete the game. Yet so complex you'll never be able to truly master the tracks. If you're a Sonic fan and want a sense of speed. This game gave it to you like no other. By taking away the platforming elements. The developers could focus the gameplay on acrobatic moves and highscoring through high speeds with few obstacles to slow you down.

The dynamic or evolving music engine was also quite novel and innovative. As you either nurtured the nightopians and bread them with the nightmarens. Or destroyed the nightopians and mepians the music would change. Allowing the music to stay fresh and familiar, but never truly repetitive. Being able to interact with the nightopians in such a unique fashion really gave some players a bond with the world of NiGHTS.

Extremely fun score based game, it's quite fun trying get the highest score. There ARE a few hackers that hold the usually 5 or so scores which I wish they'd fix but other than that great game.

Super old game surprised its here on steam now, i use to play this on Sega Saturn when that console was actually.....well a console lol. For an older game it has tight controlls and is a time attack game, if you dont like suqeezing every last second out of a game this one is not for you.

I have no idea what's going on, but it's captivating and I like it. Controls feel great and the soundtrack is super upbeat. Reading the manual — or "How to play" — is probably a good idea. (Never played NiGHTS before, so no nostalgia factor here.)

Game plays very well with an analog controller, You need the XBOX 360 Controller or your out of luck playing with a keyboard it wont work well. - However I feel that this game is locked at 30 FPS and you cant achieve higher performance even though you have the higher end hardware. The good news though its very smooth and fluid and stays true to the original Sega Saturn game. The only complain that I have is that in Sega Saturn Mode- the game is not a true emulation - its a remake using texture mapping without filtering - nothing more. I guess Saturn Emulation is hard to achieve. While there are many emulators out there they require a high system requirement and even at that you don't get accurate results. Nonetheless though , if you want a trip down memory lane , its here for you , but if you know how to beat the Sega Saturn game, you will finish this in mere moments......

okay but being a little drunk and high at 2 am on a monday and experiencing NiGHTS for the first time is probably going to be an experience i remember for the rest of my life

just. a purposefully un-gendered purple character defeating the insecurities of children that manifest in their dreams in a rampaging world of colors and textures that defies common gameworld conceptions of dimensions and movement

there is nothing else like it

i was not prepared and now nothing will ever be the same

It's Awesome to see the Classic Sega Saturn Title remade in HD and brought for us Sega Fans and Nights Fans. : D The HD Re-Release is just as great as the original saturn version, And the extra content like being able to play the game with the updated graphics or the graphics of the Original Sega Saturn Version is just the icing on the cake! It also includes some of the content seen in the Christmas Nights into Dreams, the Original Bonus Disc for the Sega Saturn. Even if you already own the Saturn Version of the game (Which I do) or the PS2 Remake (which this HD Port is based off of) don't hesitate to pass this one up! : D It's worth going through this game again!

If you grew up with this game, this is a good conversion (though a controller is a must) and the HD graphics mode offers a nice, if subtle upgrade to the original graphics. However, like most of Sega's early 3D games (Virtua Fighter excluded), it was somewhat lacking in polish to begin with and as such hasn't stood the test of time well. I have a lot more respect for the team that did Journey of Dreams after revisiting this than I did before because, while that game failed spectacularly, the original NiGHTS didn't exactly give them a lot to work with. A lot of the reason why Journey of Dreams was bad is that NiGHTS itself, by modern standards, isn't very good.

I'm giving this a recommend, but that only applies if you're already familiar with the game and would like to play it again without dealing with old hardware. On that level, this succeeds abundantly, and I hope Sega will continue to do re-releases of their older games. But if you're not already a fan of NiGHTS, this is a skip. It's a product of a bygone era of gaming, and a company that was struggling to find its identity in a changing industry, and it shows. NiGHTS was clever and beautiful for its time, but now it mostly seems counterintuitive and dated.

A sega saturn classic with Christmas NiGHTS included. It's got fun and wacky gameplay with a pretty and colorful atmosphere and some catchy tunes. It's an immediate classic.

As a Sega Saturn fan you MUST have this game, It-s very interesting to see the HD conversion, althought the classic Saturn version is there for you to enjoy, along with the christmas nights, wich is fantastic. I would say I bought it more because of nostalgia than anything else, still I think is an excellent choice to buy it if you ever played before, or just if you wanna have a little piece of gaming history that SEGA helped us have

I honestly only bought the game so that I could relive my childhood. One of the most frustrating and nostalgic experiences. I remember reading the guide that was in a gamer magazine to tell me how to beat one of the bosses. The idea of being in a dream world with a vibrant and rich world and lively characters fascinated me along with the idea of a novel Sega game that wasn't sonic (don't get me wrong, I love sonic, but this was a nice breath of fresh air).

And let me tell ya how much BETTER it is to play with the graphics being more solid as opposed to the Sega Saturn! (which I still have with the original NiGhts into Dreams. And I didn't have the analog controller, so it was freaking hard. So is playing on a keyboard.)

So yeah, really only thing this can offer me is nostalgia.

This has been one of my favourite games since the Saturn, and this version is pretty much the same game with shinier graphics. I haven't had any technical problems with it so far and the controller is smoother to play with than a Saturn controller. NiGHTs is difficult to compare with other games, it is like a platformer but with lots of flashy acrobatic flying around the screen instead of jumping. The system will take a lot of getting used to but after that it's actually quite a simple game to play. It is good for short play sessions, most of the challenge will come from trying to beat your own scores as the process of completing the game is quite easy. The story and world are fun, you are in a dream world being invaded by nightmares, it ranges from chill-out to surreal to faintly creepy. There is no death, only running out of time, but the timing can be very tight and enemies will knock 5 seconds off your 120 second time limit. The music is pretty cool, if a little experimental.

The HD rerelease of NiGHTS into dreams isn't perfect (Christmas NiGHTS is missing practically everything but the levels themselves and the game overall runs slightly slower than it did on the Saturn) but overall this game is absolutely amazing and, in my opinion, should be played by everyone at least once. I could not possibly recommend this game any harder.

Pretty faithful to the Saturn version, though it does have a couple of timings and little nitpicky things that are slightly different than the original. Won't even be noticeable to anyone but an expert player of the original. Overall, good.

NiGHTS into Dreams is a game everyone should play. The levels are filled with beautiful and creative imagery, and each level has it's own distinct features to compliment the core game mechanics. The bosses have very memerable designs and have unique ways of being defeated. For those of you who enjoy story there's not much to be seen here, but I feel the minimalistic approach to the story helps to immerse players into this world of dreams and forge their own stories from the few cutscenes they are presented.

I, myself, have a lot of fond memories of this game and feel it still holds up well even compared to more modern games. You even have the option to play with new, updated graphics in a modern screen ratio or go totally old school. It is a bit of a shame that not all the fun "presents" from Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams are featured in this version, but you will find certain things change depending on what day it is. ;)

I'm glad that after so many years NiGHTS is reborn into the modern world to give a whole new generation of gamers a chance to experience this amazing game. This short, but addicting game will bring you hours of fun, whether you're trying to beat your highscore, top the leaderboards, or just wishing to fly through the sky in a wonderful world of dreams.
