This game is amazing, don't let its release date fool you into thinking you should buy something newer.

Pros:
- Affordable
- There is a skirmish mode
- Multiplayer is still very active and a lot of fun
- The campaign is mind blowing, you learn how to adapt when against overwhelming odds
- Several factions with a lot of units to choose from, making battles very interesting

Cons:
- None, I can't think of anything.

Seriously unlike "Wargame", R.U.S.E might look confusing at first, but you'll master it in no time, while actually having a fun.

R.U.S.E. is a strategy game that is based off of world war 2. There are a HUGE amount of things that are just awesome about this game.

Imagine that you are a general, leading the American army, and you find out you are up against the germans. You build your base and eventually start building some units. You use some RUSES (which are kinda like special tactics, only every faction has these) and find the enemy base. Then suddenly, a group of panzer IV's goes on a rampage in your base, but you survive. You start building anti-tank units and recon units to see where they are coming from. You see that they are using tanks along with air support. You see that there is a flaw with this, as they don't have any long range support, so you build some artillery (suprisingly, they work kinda like wargame. Long range, but only effective against large groups of units and buildings.) You start sending volley after volley against the enemy base, so he is forced to counter this. Meanwhile, you start building your own tanks and infantry, and while he is busy tracking down your artillery and trying to counter it, you attack. His Panzars, weakened by the barrage, fall easily to your Sherman medium tanks and you destroy his base, winning the match.

The units are actually accurate to history, meaning they have their own strengths and weaknesses that are reasonable. For ex: tanks are excellent against infantry and other tanks, but are no match to fighter-bombers. Another example are the bombers. They are slow and can't defend themselves from fighters, so you have to escort them with fighters.

I haven't really tried the multiplayer out yet, but it seems pretty good.

The graphics are awesome in this game. You can see the explosions up close, with all of the dirt and debris flying all over the place. The units are also detailed, you can see the damage as units like tanks and other vehicles look more and more beaten up as they get shot at. The is awesome to look at, especially up close. The camera actually shakes from the impact of tank shells and heavy artillery and the explosions are just beautiful to look at, even at low graphics.

The damage is also effective. Certain units have more firepower than others, making them really effective at what they do, especially the units that you can get later in the game. Like the Germans King Tiger and the Americans Pershing heavy tank. One of these things could hold off against at least 4 medium tanks before they succumb.

There are also experimental units that are in this. The super pershing for the Americans is one of the most powerful tank in the American arsenal, but you need to get a experimental factory in order to make one. Experimental units can range from super-heavy artillery to anti-air guns that can wipe the sky clean of even the biggest squadrons of bombers single handedly.

Overall, this game has a very good impression. You can have firefights that can last from 5 seconds to 20 minutes if you aren't careful. The graphics are amazing to look at. The overall strategy required for this game is tremendous, as every unit has a purpous and even one unit can ruin your chances of winning the game.

I rate this game a 9.5/10.

P.S. There are a few things that make this different from Wargame. Like the fact that you don't have a limit to how many units you have or can have.

This game is a fresh revision to the world of RTS which has been flooded by the Command and Conquer series which hasn't given us anything new. And lets be honest, Starcraft 2 is the same gameplay it was 10 years ago.
In this game, you get abilities called RUSE, which are abilities you activate such as a spy in an area who will report any enemies he sees in the area. There is the decoy army, which you can say to send a fake air force to fly at the enemy and they will shoot at them. Combine this with your real army, and the enemy wont know the fake units from the real units, thus increasing the survivability of the real units.
Another great aspect of this game is the amount of nations you can be, and how they are all very different from each other. Britain has a good amount of air power, Germany has some of the best anti tank capabilities, the French have some of the best defense structures, and so forth and so forth.
The game doesn't have as much micro managing as other RTSes, but it requires a lot more strategy. It adds a sense of realism in how you would command a military as opposed to just doing rush tactics, which don't work by the way. People who like this are the people who like games like Company of Heroes, and Iron Hearts 3.

Despite what many of my friends have said this is a fun, unique and very enjoyable RTS I've sunk many hours into. While the campaign story isn't exactly the best I've ever seen the gameplay more than makes up for it with the use of many Ruses to throw your enemy off and launch sneak attacks which is damn satisfying to do.

I just eradicated a whole town with 100 katyusha's launching about 20 rockets each. And burned the ruins down afterwards. It was amazing, awesome, and scary at the same time.

100000000/5 would destroy and burn again!

After an hour and a half, finally had the Russains on the run. My army of Pershings and M19's battiling vailently agianst the Soviet fortress of Steel, my M40's pounding away mercilessly at the neighbouring British positions to keep them distracted on my seige. Meanwhile, my Mustangs, elegently twisting and turning in the sky bringing down the Soviet's last ditch fighter-bomber defense. Twas the one of the last mighty superpowers on the map, had my victory in sight, the Russian's administration buildings and airstrips I had so painfully micro-manuvered my units to preserve from destruction were in pristine and mint condition, for I had run out of servicable land.

Until my largely useless Italian A.I. comrade sent in his infantry and took over most of it for himself.

9/10 tense battle. 9/10 game in total. 0/10 unknowingly Day-Z seasoned Italian A.I.

I will say this right now. My friend bought me this game out of the blue. And I've been playing it ever since. It's a great RTS game.. It focuses on the real events that happened during World War II, and does so with much accuracy. If you love Strategic games, then this is DEFINATELY for you!

This is without a doubt the greatest RTS I have ever played! The main reason for this is the clarity of the gameplay. When you select a unit and hover over the unit you wish to attack it will tell you how risky the attack is. I cannot stress how important this is!!! It means you do not have to learn all of the unit names to know what beats what! On top of this you can then focus more on possitioning of units and hiding them instead of worrying if the unit you are using is good enough! It's a beautiful system!
Granted the late game is all about gettting admin buildings out when you supply routes dry up which means it is a little bit state on the resource management side but it doesn't matter due to the amazing gameplay. I have been playing for well over a year and have never got bored playing against the A.I! There is a very elitest online community with many people kicking you out of games for not being level 100, which most people get from grinding against the A.I!
Appart from that the game is brilliant and I can't recommend it enough!!!!

A game to play when you're bored.

tbh i expected more from this game, A major being in a charge of 2 units? that sounds more like squad leader, a sergeant.
There are more advanced strategy games like Total War series, etc. I know it's a different time, different war but, they make you feel really in charge.

Allthough, if you don't want to be dragged into game, just kill 1 hour in fun, this game is recommended

Best RTS I've ever played. The only thing I hate about this is the fact nobody ever plays multiplayer on mac, and macs cannot connect with PC's.

(20h+ of ps3 RUSE gameplay)

RUSE is a rather unique basebuilding/strategy game. You play with the minds of your foes by tricking and decieving them with different intel and so called ruses. You can decieve an enemy, luring them with decoy units, fake your unit types on the enemy radar, hide your units from enemy sight and much more. Use propoganda to scare away enemies or to rally your troops to fight until the end.

There are tons of unit types at your disposal, ranging from infantry, tanks, aircraft, artillery and prototype weapons. Most units are balanced with both strengths and weaknesses that you can abuse for your advantage on the battlefield.

My only problem with the game is that the resources on the map eventually runs out, so slows down long games unless you have prepared with an armada of expensive money generating buildings.

Pro:
- Really interesting ruse mechanics and intel management.
- Unit variety
- Huge battlefields & maps

Con:
- Long battles turns quite hard to finish
- Bit lacking in building variety

This is one of the greats in the RTS genre, demonstrating REAL tactics used in WWII that so many other games seem to forget. Things like camoflauge, going radio silent, decoy units and structures are all just a few of the Ruses that you can employ unto your enemy.

Intel is at the heart of this game. Without it, you're as good as dead, and if you can destroy your enemy's intel-gathering units, you can easily initiate a surprise attack, and they'd have no way of knowing.

The diversity of units schocked me. Every type of unit you'd expect to see is here, along with things called Prototypes, various weapons of war that were not widespread enough to see action in most other WWII games. Things like the PzKpfw VIII Maus tank, the 155mm Long Tom artillery piece, and the 203mm BM super-heavy howitzer can all be used to ruthless efficiency in R.U.S.E.

If you're an RTS fan, don't let your collection be without this game.

I have never had such a love hate relationship with a game. Some matches are a tough grind to glorious victory, others are half a match of carefree preparations ruined by one super lucky artillery barrage. The maps and units are very realistic both in proportion and ability. The one annoying thing is the mid match slump. The maps don't have enough resources to get you ready for later in the match when there's resource generating buildings. So about mid match every army on the map stalls out and it becomes a matter of who get's units back on the field soonest. The artillery makes some matches an idiotic dual of shells the winner decided by blind luck I wish there was an arty free option or mod it would make the game much more strategic. The awesomest part is the ability to mass produce units that were in the test phase at the end of the war like the me262 or the maus panzer. The lamest part is the inability to shoot at units you can't identify even if you can see them. I can see if the unit is out of range but for goodness sake I've had units sitting right next to each other not firing a single shot. The RUSE items are worthless and do almost nothing to change the outcome of any match. The game should be called CoH with shenanigans. But all in all decent graphics and some nice game play make this a playable usually fun game.
