Mirage Gameplay and Coverage from PAX East

Watch eight minutes of raw gameplay from Mirage: Arcane Warfare from its first public appearance at PAX East 2016. The new title from the creators of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare will release later in 2016.

https://youtu.be/VqQyMKHphcs

Recorded by our own team, in an Alpha version demo of Mirage.

Plus, check out PAX East hands-on media impressions of Mirage - to be updated with more to come!

TotalBiscuit

"It needs a little bit more skill, it's less defensive, it's a more aggressive combat system in general - particularly with the addition of abilities. The combat can be quite fast paced at times but it still has the weight of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare"

https://youtu.be/66L8k0Ebwks

Angry Joe

“You know Chivalry: Medieval Warfare? Take that, take the training wheels off, take the historical restrictions away and then just go crazy with it and that’s what you have here with magic and special abilities.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YklJpKCCpNs

Game Informer

“The premise is easy to love, and with a focus on blocking magic and melee attacks at the right time while finding an opening for magic spells, Mirage is more than just your average FPS with swords and fireballs.”

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/mirage_arcane_warfare/b/pc/archive/2016/04/27/mirage-arcane-warfare-adds-explosive-magic-to-chivalrys-brutal-sword-combat.aspx

Tom’s Hardware

“These days, you’re bound to see another multiplayer game with some variation on the first-person shooter (FPS) mechanic. However, Torn Banner stuck to its guns (pun intended) to deliver competitive multiplayer with a melee twist. Adding magic to the mix makes for new ways to take out enemies without overpowering the melee combat that serves as the game's backbone.”

Force Gaming

“Having played the game I’d say this is definitely a positive direction that they’re taking it in. They’ve got the the similarly deep combat mechanics [as Chivalry] but then with the extra layer of magic they can make combat a bit more interesting and add an extra layer of depth”

https://youtu.be/UuiYaBZdT-w

PC Gamer interview

“We’re bringing fighting game mechanics into multiplayer.”

Hardcore Gamer

“After every convention, certain games seem to stand out as the clear winners of a given event. After spending forty-five minutes with the brutal, intense Mirage: Arcane Warfare, it’s safe to say that players should eagerly anticipate Torn Banner’s next title. After all, there was a reason why fans kept on flocking back to hop in and get another match in rather than seeing something new.”

About This Game

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like an FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

Key Features:

  • Deep melee combat system provides players with a huge range of responsive combat options
  • Adjust your attacks and blocks in real time with the mouse for precise and full control of the action
  • Wield an arsenal of up to 60 brutal weapons ranging from broad swords and battle axes to longbows and javelins
  • Dynamic objective system brings team tactics and strategy to the forefront as players batter down gates, raid villages and assassinate enemy royalty to achieve victory.
  • Use a variety of siege weapons ranging from catapults, boiling oil, ballista, battering rams and more
  • Vast, lush environments that transport the player to a gritty and immersive medieval world.
  • Offline play options that allow players to gain familiarity with the controls and gameplay before being thrust into the action.

First review on steam.
To be honest i can't even beat the training guy with infinite stamina. It already looked awful when hitting the instructor meant not to beak through his shield by hacking through wood splinters with my axe, but dancing with him at supernaular speed. I then tried to join a fight and got to look at it from above for a few minutes. It's a sad, sad thing to say it's described as medieval swordfighting. This is a pure hack n slash thing where comboing is important, and not getting hold of a decent suit of armour or a sharp blade. There's nothing of that. It's more like mortal kombat than anything else i have played.
There's no adventuring, no feeling you may die at some point and that would ruin your career, there's no feeling that you're a heavy mastiff wearing 100 lbs of steel, iron and leather, there is no feeling you have to be stably on our feet and you could charge shiled first in your opponent to slam him to the ground. This is a game for those who think that knights flew like kites, but they rode like cannonballs, instead.

I'm back to playing mount and blade, i wasted my money on this, i am not wasting my time too.

It was good in 2013-2014.
But since 2015 many have begun to use methods to manipulate the swinging system. (reverse overheads, aka rainbows ; literally spins to do accelerated drags which make absolutely no sense in any way, and so on.) Some moves (drags) make some sense, and don't look like someone is literally just dancing with a messer, between 3 people, decapidating each one of them, with one move, while abusing the stupid animations.

I didn't want this game to be fully realistic, but some semi-realistic aspects and some fixes for this poorly designes system would've been welcomed. But, it was too late. They now moved on their next game, and will probably abandoned this one soon.

Edit: for those who want another game that has the potential of crushing chivalry, should check Mordhau. Please do. You will not regret that.

I recently picked up this product and this is slowly eating my life away. It is awesome, You do need some skill to master which is quite easy to learn if you have played Mount And Blade WarBand. At first it was a bit annoying but once you calm down and lay back you will notice you play better. This is a brilliant game even if you ain't a big fan of comp gaming.

Not your average online multiplayer game... and that's what I like about it! For those who are bored of Call of Duty, or looking for something different, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is something you should at least try. It's kind of dorky, but the engagement with other players is intense and very fun!

Despite of the: some maps lack of optimization based and the drag queens, it keeps being a great game a challege not as hard as dark souls, but hard enough to have 465 hrs in this and just understanding it, that does not mean no fun you can perfectly have fun while you travel the roud of learning how to play

PRO:

*Its really fun. (did i just say that already?)

*its a challenge with good graphics and mecanics (no the game is not broken as many say)

CONS:

*the draggers ruin the idea of a sword fight making it look like a ballet interpretacion, not like a fight (sad for those who love realism)

*if u dont have this three tings hell is waiting for you: first is a medim powerfull pc as i had said some maps are from the workshop so most of this maps are poorly optimazed, also if your internet is a piace of s#$t, you will have extra work cuase abobe the 100 ping you have to block earlyer to really parry if you parry a hit when you see it the most of the time it was 2 seconds ago thrown out and the third thing and the most important is patiense, if you want a game where first time u paly and kill 7 and die 5 this is not like that, in this game who has more experience playing is who has the advantage, so if youre easyly mad with just dying this game might be in your ignore list. ( i must say that the comunity is quite nice so you wont have 10 guys writing you in the chat noob, get a life so be at peace with that).

Don't buy = No regrets
Yeah it has potential but developers ruined it by being lazy and not caring about the community and the games' exploits, most players stop playing this game after reaching level 20.
This game is a waste of time.
Both developers and community are toxic, no one respects new players
Animation exploits and bugs are accepted by developers as a "realistic" thing.
Don't even spend your time on this game
Once you leave low bracket servers, masters of exploits will pwn you down and you will have nothing else to do.
You may learn the exploits but who cares about this game ? Instead of a real sword fight, all you are doing will be doing exploits and defending against exploits.

This is one of the few medieval themed games with a big focus on melee combat.

The fighting takes place on decent sized maps with some general objectives to accomplish. Those are mostly kill the enemy team's king, push the battering ram towards the gate, kill peasants or burn houses. They are pretty fun for both teams.

Sadly, for people expecting anything realistic, it is a dissapointment. The actual skill of this game focuses on exploiting bad physics. The combat against "experienced" players is immersion breaking as they are using all the exploits possible to gain an advantage, all while looking downright silly at the same time (knights doing moves no human being could do). It might take skill to do it but it simply isnt proper swordfighting.

You could probably find some fun in it if you're not looking for a interesting spin on melee combat, while not focusing on the realism whatsoever, or you plan on doing some fights with friends.

Personally I cannot recommend the game. I bough it for 1 eur along some other games (humble bundle) and found it quite fun for a limited time, but at full price it's definetely not worth it.

After breaking lvl15 it lets you into the other servers. Where people 20+ levels group together and beat on you and chuckle, it's not a fun game at all after a couple weeks, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Worth what I paid for it, though.

Well, 365 days and 365 hours later, I've decided to compose this review. This once decent game was graduately ruined by the dev team's focus on profit and not on improving the game. Last major update happened 11 months ago, when 2 maps were added. Since then, nothing. Even beside that, the game goes on sale every month at a price of 2,5 euros or something. Ruined by elitists, noobs, and the catasrophycal policy of the dev team. Better pay your local junky for a hand job instead of buying this.

if you asked me if i recommended this game when I first got it, I would have said yes.

but guess what!!!! it's a no now!!!

ok first and foremost: why in god's name does this game have the option to go 1st or 3rd person? To me, the whole point of the game was supposed to be a first-person melee knight game. But now people can go third person and have greater situational awareness in the midst of multiplayer. That's just dumb. Ya, sure anyone else can do it to, but it kind of ruins what the game was to me just so that I can (try to) play better.

for a game that focuses on melee, the game feels sluggish and slow. The classes seem unbalanced and i found myself playing knight the most even though he's probably the worst. There's something about this game just makes me feel like the whole thing has been dipped in really stale honey. it's kind of sweet and all that, but it's sticky and doesn't leave a good taste in your mouth.

Admittedly, I kind of suck at this game. so that's cause for further frustration. But pretty much the only people who are left playing this and the ones who are going to dominate the scoreboard, are the people who play in 3rd and know how to angle their attacks and aim their camera so they dodge things. It doesn't seem like skillfull playing, it seems like taking the baby way out to be good at a game. I feel like if they were to disallow 3rd person on certain servers (or altogether for all i care) they would lose the tiny player base that still dwells in this game. The Chiv devs are pretty muched cucked into keeping it in in an attempt to maintain these unfun players.

all-in-all it's a really fun idea held back by abused mechanics and a dying community, as well as some bad honey.

It's a very intense battle
There's a constant mosh pit at the gates
I see a figure fighting 3 men at once, taking every single one of them out before repeatedly crouching as a truce
After closer inspection i realise it's an enemy
His name is Creamdos
I stand with him and we get along, there's no fighting or bloodshed
Whenever one of my faction approaches him, he easily takes them out
Whenever one of his faction approaches, he calls them off or i take them out
We spend 10 or so minutes watching the battle and exploring
But then it happened...
A knight, in dark smoky armour approaches us
He swings for me
"RETREAT" I hear Creamdos shout repeatedly
"RETREAT"
"FALL BACK"
The knight swings at me, and hits Creamdos while doing so, decapitating him.
He stops and looks at the body
"you killed my friend...."
"now you must die"
I switch to my fists
I relentlessly assault the knight
punch after punch
He is knocked back into the corner trying to block my attacks
"FOR CREAMDOS"
I punch his head off
I crouch down next to Creamdos' body and await my death
A true love story.
10/10 play this game if you want to make a friend and have them taken from you brutally. :(

This game is brutal, TOTALLY brutal and sooo much fun. Pretty easy you just find a game pick a class and you start dissecting people, lots of screams lots of head cutting arms cutting legs cutting, everything. There are four available classes they cover any taste of game play you have and all the popular medieval weapons, the game play is really simple it just needs some timing and awareness but you'll probably still get your head cut off by a teammate who just rushed in with the longest sword and had it swinging towards everybody. The graphics and the sounds are decent and it has multiple game modes, dueling a friend is fun oh and killing someone with a throwing knife to the head is very satisfying.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare requires good skills, mastery of combo attacks and team work to deliver the death blow on the enemy. Most fight needs co-operation between team mates to outnumber the enemy, hence attacking them from multiple directions. The chaotic nature of medieval war makes each hand-to-hand combat intense. The gore features (blood stains, dismembement, etc...) turns the match into a fun, enjoyable slaughter-house. However, the game lacks of smoothness of the control/animations and the poor character rigging . In overall, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare deserves a 8/10.

This game sat in my game library forever. Finally started playing around with it last night. ♥♥♥♥ yes. More. More. MORE.
The gore, the brutality, the weapon selection, classes, maps, everything is fantastic.

No game is perfect, some "walls" are a pest, some things you should be able to jump onto but can't cause of again said walls and such. But wow, such a fun game for someone who wants to unleash his inner psycho and get some heads flying.
