About This Game

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like an FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

Key Features:

  • Deep melee combat system provides players with a huge range of responsive combat options
  • Adjust your attacks and blocks in real time with the mouse for precise and full control of the action
  • Wield an arsenal of up to 60 brutal weapons ranging from broad swords and battle axes to longbows and javelins
  • Dynamic objective system brings team tactics and strategy to the forefront as players batter down gates, raid villages and assassinate enemy royalty to achieve victory.
  • Use a variety of siege weapons ranging from catapults, boiling oil, ballista, battering rams and more
  • Vast, lush environments that transport the player to a gritty and immersive medieval world.
  • Offline play options that allow players to gain familiarity with the controls and gameplay before being thrust into the action.

Heads will roll. And arms... and legs... pretty much everything, really. Even stuff you didn't know existed.
I mean, seriously, this game has taught me all sorts of things about human anatomy, it's a wonder they don't show it in Science lessons.

(in all seriousness, this game is absolutely brilliant, especially for private matches with your friends)

Ok if your going to buy this game here are a few things you need to know.

Pros:
Fun with friends

good graphics

Hilarious in game voices

Combat is awesome and unique (a little)

Maps are fun and game doesn't really get old.

Cons:

some maps are broken in some spots.

Community on certain servers are complete ♥♥♥♥
(don't let that kill you out of buying this game. Plenty of awesome servers)
Archers are annoying as ♥♥♥♥. KILL THEM and don't become part of the virus xD.

You might encounter other problems. Just post about it and hopefully Reither (the dev) will reply.

What you need to know starting of:

There are 4 classes:
Archer: The Ultimate ♥♥♥♥♥ (If you want to be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) Most difficult class to play
Man at Arms: Fastest Class. Extremely good if you like stabbing and running. Not very EZ to play
Vanguard: Class for BIG Swords and Polearm weapons. Spin like a beyblade. Super EZ class to play
Knight: Fatest/slowest class. Uses Big weapons and Hammers. Ez class to play

Gamemodes:
Free for All: Kill everyone. No don't do that. actually wait untill someone attacks you that way its more fun.

Team Deathmatch: Two teams Fight until one team racks up enough kills.

Team Objective: Story driven mode (sort of) Play different objectives on each team. Attacking or defending.

Last Team Standing: Two teams. Elimination mode. once you die you wait for the next round.

Horde: Fight in 25 waves of enemies with your friends or others. Each wave more enemies + Harder.

Combat:
Left mouse: Slash sideways (unless you have a spear or a bow/crossbow)

Scroll wheel down: Overhead

Scroll wheel up: Stab/jab.

Right mouse: Block/parry (You have to look at the enemy's weapon to successfully block/parry)

Q: Feint. Feinting Cancels your attack tricking some people into blocking. then you hit them. (♥♥♥♥♥ move)

Review:

got this in a humble bundle awhile ago, really glad i did not pay more than a dollar for it. The premise itself is a good one however there where several issues with it for me.

-customization sounds like a good idea until you see it implimented. When everyone changes their clothing color it is extremely hard to tell who is an enemy and who is on your team. This is especially an issue for people who have issues with certian colors. There is no real way to see who your teammates are until you either stare at them (and often dont move), or kill them.

-Then you get vote kicked. it also does not matter if you have a decent/good score, youll still get kicked. Vote kicking is frequent in this game (like i see a vote kick on someone every minute or two) and it can be very hard for a new player to even finish a match because you are kicked out constantly.

-controls are not that great as well. half of the time i do the combo moves but they do not register.

-hitboxes are an issue. I have ran my sword through people without them taking any damage at all.

normally i would try the game more before making a review but i have no desire to. I know that other people like it but it's just not for me.

This game started off sooooooo good. You felt like a powerful medival warrior...

At least it used to be.

Knight class (Heavy Armor) got nerfed so now it gives you only one more hit than a man-at-arms (unarmored).
Same with the vanguard.

Archers are limited to only 3 a team, so expect to never get to play them.

To many DLC weapons and skins. It can be real confusing when trying to tell if your opponent is on your side (several skins run about without shirts on) and you never know what the other guy is swinging at you.

The worst thing is the "rank up" system.
It tracks your skill purely by how many battles you've been in, it doesn't matter if you do well or not.
After rank 15, I got it in a week, you are dumped into the same player pool with everyone rank 15 to 100, and most of them will be in the 30s or higher.

Play until you hit rank 15, after that the game loses any value of fun.

I did really like this game, and I put a bunch of time into it, but the developers have been making a lot of bad choices in it's updates since launch, and are slowly killing the game.

P.S. - Do NOT waste your money of the Deadliest Warrior version. It is everything wrong with this game, and so much more.

got a heavy crossbow and started shooting enemies as they tried to cross a bridge. Killed some, hurt others and eventually I ran out of ammo, so I started charging with a shortsword. Cut a dude's arm off, and had a lengthy fight with an armored dude, was countering all his hits and was trying to stab him, when a teammate with a massive battleaxe charged through, chopped both our heads off, and then got nailed on the rocks behind him from a mounted ballista.

10/10 would medieval again

Fun game, not easy enough for Russians, so servers aren't full of autism

When entering battle, you see/experience three kinds of people: 1. The friendlies. 2. The battle legends. 3. The newbies.

So basically a Monty Python simulator, 10/10

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is an extremely fun game with interesting mechanics that give it a great longevity. It is very fun to play.

For about 9 hours(ish).

Chivalry unfortunately is a game that doesn't get better with age. Rather, it ages like milk. After 9 hours of brutal slaughter and decapitations you will begin to enter the game's seamy underbelly.
This is due to their two different server types: Beginner and Advanced.
Beginner is where you will spend the first 9 or so hours in Chivalry, playing with those under level 15. Matches in these servers are incredibly fun to play, with everyone at an even level allows for fun, fair - albeit gratuitous- fights.
This part of the game I loved, playing nearly daily to get my fill of medieval mediation.
But then we level up, become a big boy, and the gates to beginner servers close.
Due to this you have no choice but to play in the advanced servers, but this seems fair right? I mean, isn't it good that there is a separation in skill levels?
True, but as you begin your first tentative steps into advanced matches, you'll notice that the game you loved so much is just a little bit different. That fiery girl you fell in love with turned out to be no girl at all; in fact, as she undresses before your eyes you realise, she's a tumour.
And a pretty bad tumour at that, poor thing.
What I mean to say, through poor analogies, that the advanced section of the game is unmoderated garbage.
Hey, did you enjoy intricate duels where you used the mechanics to simulate a real fight?
Not any more, now it's a lot easier: majority of players seem to instead prefer exploiting the game's mechanics by switching to third-person and violently moving there mouse in various directions to break the physics and strike with moves that are near-impossible to defend from.
And if you love that notion, then I'm sure that knowing that (at least in my personal experience) about 1 in every 3 players has some kind of cheats or hacks enabled will come as an absolute treat.
This wouldn't be a huge issue, if the devs did anything about it, such as enforcing better anti-cheat policies, or even setting up moderated servers specifically for those who want actual battles.
But in the meantime we just have to make do with a cancerous community and a broken game.

So yeah, with the state that Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is in, I just can't reccommend it.
Which sucks, because under that pile of broken garbage lies a genuinely fun game.
I could semi-reccommmend picking it up in a sale, just so you can play the early servers; or just create another steam account once you reach level 15, whatever helps you sleep at night.

Alternatively you could sit pretty until the devs decide to change some things up.
But to be honest, I kind of doubt that much - if anything - will change in the game, I doubt the devs are gonna put much more time into it.
But hey, could be wrong, hopefully I am.

So pick Chivalry up if you want some limited fun, or if you're into broken games.
Or save your money for a rainy day, or Mafia III, or whatever.

Broken hitboxes. Strange maps. Sometimes fun, but mostly annoying as hell.

Don't even buy on sale. This games mechanics are bad. Different classes have different mobility speeds. Yet there is no mobility meter. So fast classes can run fast forever. This is a direct imbalance to the core game play of this game. Every developer knows how to restrict mobility because IT MATTERS. This developer missed the memo.
