Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Patch 47.5 - Hotfix!

This patch addresses the following fixes.

  • Fixed some texture LOD settings that could have been causing incorrect visibility of world objects

Castle Assault / King's Garden
  • Making barriers work properly (not stick in the way after the objective is completed). The barriers added in the previous patch were not implemented correctly and would often bug out, additional protection has been added to ensure they work as intended.

    Drunken Bazaar
  • Fixed the collision on the optional side bridge

Please expect our servers to be down for a time while they are updated

"I’m rather enamoured by the unique flavour of online combat presented by Chivalry. It’s fresh and fun, and like the very best games is easy to get into yet incredibly hard to master."

About This Game

Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like an FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

Key Features:

  • Deep melee combat system provides players with a huge range of responsive combat options
  • Adjust your attacks and blocks in real time with the mouse for precise and full control of the action
  • Wield an arsenal of up to 60 brutal weapons ranging from broad swords and battle axes to longbows and javelins
  • Dynamic objective system brings team tactics and strategy to the forefront as players batter down gates, raid villages and assassinate enemy royalty to achieve victory.
  • Use a variety of siege weapons ranging from catapults, boiling oil, ballista, battering rams and more
  • Vast, lush environments that transport the player to a gritty and immersive medieval world.
  • Offline play options that allow players to gain familiarity with the controls and gameplay before being thrust into the action.

find friends to play with or someone to teach you
the actual mechanics of the game don't matter, you have to learn how to do a bunch of special moves that don't really make sense in terms of physics if you want to jump on a server with high levels

I ♥♥♥♥ing love this game, it's so stupidly brutal but it can be ruined by team killers since (from what I have seen) there is no option to make it so friendlies can't hurt you, I guess it adds to the realism? I picked this up for 2 quid and it is definitley a worthy purchase, I just need more time to play it,

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a game that is actually really, really fun, if you know what you're doing and sometimes even when you don't know jack ♥♥♥♥. The community is USUALLY helpful and will give you pointers of what to do (in my experience) but they still won't go easy on you. Of course, there are salty players as well, as can be expected in a comptetive multiplayer game.

So, what's it like for a beginner in the game of Chivalry? Well... Confusing. You go in as a wee baby, unsure of where to go or what to do. You think you can get in and know exactly what to do and be an expert. Stick them with the pointy end of the sword, right? You go in to a high-level room and get demolished by a man clad in massive armour and wielding a maul, simply because he ducked and you didn't realize that the game features a unique mechanic that allows you to speed up or slow down your attacks by moving your mouse a certain way during the attack.

Like I said, you will be torn apart. You will rage. You will get better. It just takes time. Do not go in thinking this will be a cakewalk. Do not go in thinking you will be the best player immediately after looking at the controls for five seconds and completing the training mission.

I don't play this game anymore, though, and my recommendation is empty because of this, I know. But, this is a very good game. If you need any more info, just watch someone on YouTube play it and see how much fun they have. Look at all the community who enjoy it. If you weren't into medieval martial arts, you just might be into them once you get this game.

Overall rating for the game: 8/10

The game is not perfect, it has flaws. Sometimes, you come across a person who simply acts like a ballerina, and you're left wondering how the hell they killed you if literally the only thing they were doing were spinning around with a Zweihender. Mordhau intends to fix that, and, in all honesty, I would wait for that to release rather than just redownload this game (I did not delete it intentionally. My computer crashed and I had to reset everything. Had it not crashed, I would still probably be playing it today, I just don't want to redownload it again.)

Anyways, this game is worth the money, simple as that

Chivalry is actually pretty enjoyable when you first start playing. After a certain point, however, you realize that the game is broken beyond reason. When you're past level 15, you'll no longer be able to play in low level servers. It means you'll be stuck with 1500 hour tryhards who'll make use of every possible broken mechanic, glitch and bug in the game to dominate you. Apparently, instead of fixing their game, the developers decided to "include" everything broken in the game as part of its core mechanics. Because they are too busy developing another equally broken sequel. They are still updating the game regularly, but the patches mostly include community made cosmetic skins which are sold by real money. Not much bugfixing and never the most important stuff.

What's worse is that the game has one of the most toxic communities I have ever seen. Whenever you try to point out the game's flaws, you will be mocked. You will be insulted. They will tell you to "git gud" at glitching or stop playing. You will be teamkilled by cancerous trolls that never gets votekicked and in retaliation, start a votekick against you.

Newer players realize these problems and stop playing the game sooner or later. So, the servers are full of these glitch♥♥♥♥♥ "experts" who are competing in their own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ contest about who glitches the best. Since the game doesn't give you a "casual player" space, you'll be stuck in this mess until your growing mental illness prevents you from gaming, or you'll die of cancer.

If you buy this game, there are only 2 outcomes:
1. You'll hate its guts and regret paying even a single dollar for it. You'll most likely uninstall it and never look back.
2. You'll bite and become a glitchmongering cancerous ballerina yourself. You will look down on every reasonable person who realize that the game is a broken, pathetic piece of human feces. You will masturbate on other people's misery.

Spin to win. That's the maxim of soldiers from ye olde times.

Once I learned of this truth I became a Beyblade master.

I also didn't know that knights were made out of paper.

I learned a lot from Chivalry.

Chivalry: Let it Rip.

Edit: Don't forget to crouch. That's important.

For the first 15 levels of the game, it's fun. Everyone is new (Except the ones that make a new account so they can grief the lower level players) and the playstyles are pretty straight forward.
After level 15, you are forced into the "Standard" servers where everyone is using any gimic they can find. Rips the fun out of mechanics and makes it slightly infuriating.

I could arguably recommend this, but there are cons that limit the new player's funtime experience. As a veteran player of Age of Chivalry, I found this game a nice graphic retouching of the original, but I find it frustrating in places like getting kicked for your ping jumping up for a second, or the toxicity of this game's community.

Many of them have criticised the swing mechanic and how players abuse it to make them look like spinning helicopter ballerinas. Truth is that it's actually very easy to counter these reverse-overheads and speed-ups. It's only because after a while you can see where you'd put your block when they do these moves. In other words they become very predictable.

NOW however this does not make it fun for the new player at all once they are kicked out of the low rank servers where they must deal with it. New players would have to put real dedication into it and master blocking these helicopter swings. Making the value of this game decrease dramatically due to it's fun value being lowered by this.

So in conclusion... Get it or not? Get Age of Chivalry first, it's free and has similar gameplay, you're also able to determine if Chivalry is right for you, but the community of Chivalry might drive you away though if you question this swinging mechanic so either turn off chat completely or stick to AoC. THERE ARE RARE CASES OF THE BALLERINAS NOT BEING IN A GAME, so you might be lucky to find such a game, especially if you're a new guy.

I will be playing this though, just because I'm used to the swing mechanic's exploitation being used on me, so it's not a big deal, but like I said it might not make it fun for the new player. (I to this day remain a pure fighter, never abused the swing mechanic.)

I love this game so please fix it. It has been this way as long as I can remember, the devs have not abondoned us by proving through the use of microtransactions and a DLC. We know your there, so please fix the combat exploits of overhead swings especially. Anything would be a great start. Will fix this review if it ever gets fixed
