The Conclusion of Patterns

Recently, Linden Lab announced that we are working on an ambitious project to create the next-generation virtual world, while we continue to improve Second Life and grow Blocksworld. As we focus on these priorities, we have ceased development for Patterns, and we will be no longer offering the game for sale.

We at Linden Lab are extremely grateful for the adventurous early players who explored the Patterns genesis release. Those who purchased the Patterns genesis release will still be able to play their copies of the game, but features relying on server connections, such as world-sharing, will not be functional.

Patterns had early promise, and while Linden Lab focuses our efforts on our other offerings, we are still evaluating the future of the Patterns technology. Interested parties are welcome to contact us with proposals.

The game's been discontinued, and they say they're working on a different "ambitious" title. I'd add some snarky comment here, but I'm just annoyed at what Linden Labs has done, and glad that I only got this game when it was heavily discounted.

Linden lab is working on something new, and so they have dumped Patterns. My advice: whatever they come up with next don't buy, they'll only do to you again. Spent money in promises and cool ideas they've been showing... Got very disappointed.

I expected so much more from Linden Lab, this was their chance to get away from their Second Life roots and instead they fall flat on their backs and just give up.

I honestly think this was a waste of money, but I guess I should have expected that, Linden Lab is known for half assing things in Second Life, why not in full blown game development.

Lets hope their new virtual world won't be quite implemented like this was done.

What a waste. You buy early access to support a developing game. Linden Lab just threw patterns out the window for some new cheaply made game when they can't even finish this one.

Early Access Review
Yeah, this game is being removed from steam, but I still just wanted to say this is one of the worst examples of early access I own, and I own both Starforge and Paranautical Activity.

The game had great potential and was even fun to play in the early builds, but then at some point the dev team went silent. Then out of nowhere some changes started to be made. These changes essentially removed some of the fun from playing with the physics, and limited creativity (I had planned on making a bouncy path to my house filled with tricky platforming...that's not possible anymore). They also still listed on their website that the game has planetary gravity, even though that was removed months ago, so they falsely advertised features to get sales.

These alone are bad enough, but I want to go back to focusing on the devs themselves.

These are people that pretty much always had to be reminded to post patch notes whenever an update came out. If people didn't do that, they wouldn't even bother. They always talked about being able to create your own universe in early videos (they also mentioned water, which never made it into the game), but the truth is you can't make anything unless it's attached to something else first. And then when you break a huge planet off after making it, guess what? It will fall right back down, likely pushing you through the floor if you get hit. Some universe...

Considering all the problems the game had that were definitely in need of being fixed that got ignored (terrible camera, lack of information on making formations like bombs, multiple bugs with collision), I'd either say this was a scam from the start, or the dev team really is just that bad, either way, I'm not inclined to buy or recommend anything they make ever again.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play multiplayer just one last time before they shut down the servers...

This game was a money grab, and is no longer in development as of this review. Please remember the Name LindenLabs, theyre the devs and should be avoided. They used this game to get money for their other projects.

Early Access Review
The game in itself is good and has lots of potential (or it did...). However, whether or not the game is dead is to me an open question. I have seen one or two dev posts saying it's still going and pointing people to the dev-blog on patternsguru, but the last entry was 4-5 months ago. Even if it is still in development they've lost me.

It is totally unacceptable to go this long with zero word to paying customers, regardless of the Early Access status. Developers need to take Early Access on Steam more seriously and stop using it as a way to scam people or an excuse to drag their heels. I understand that ♥♥♥♥ happens, but please take 5 minutes to post a short "Hey, here's what's happening."

I've had this game for quite some time holding out hope that the developers would get a clue, but I seriously doubt they ever will.

Great idea, poor execution, waited loyaly just to be told, sorry you waited for nothing. I urge other gamers to do as myself and never buy another Linden Lab game again, unless they make up for this blunder. In case you don't get the gist they canceled the game for no good reason and they expect a sorry cuts it.
