This is what I would consider the Medea of indie games.
It has an amazing story, a beautiful art style, and enthralling music. The boss fights are truely some of the best I've seen in a long time. There is one problem, though. Being in my books the "Medea of video games", it shares the exact same problem Medea has. The beginning is amazing, the middle is enthralling, and all the way up to right before the final boss, it is a generally good time (I found the final "giant" boss to be quite dull, and the Ken boss fight wasn't great, either, but at least they were both enjoyable). The problem is, though, the final boss fight is, sadly to say, mediocre at best. Compared to the others, it seems stiched together at the last minute. You beat the final boss with no satisfaction, more just a feeling of relief that you don't have to deal with his annoying attack patterns anymore and it's all over, only to realize that it is then followed by 3 platforming sections (2 of which are, like the final boss, more annoying then enjoyable). Though, all of that said, I can easily say that this is one of my favorite video games of all time (I love Medea just the same), and I would recommend it to anybody that likes platforming games (word of advice, it strays a bit more towards the frustrating / difficult side of platforming in some times) and to I believe all people I know!

pid is a lovely 2D platforming puzzle adventure game with a gorgeous visual aesthetic, and a charming, somewhat extra-ordinary story about a boy who, on his bus ride home from school, gets lost and trapped on a distant planet where the interplanetary traffic has died down for centuries.

Unfortunately however, the controls are too floaty which makes for a frustrating platforming experience. The music is okay in itself and definitely sports a colorful variety, but it gets fairly annoying in die-a-lot sections. Same for some of the sound FX. Speaking of sounds: Kurt's footsteps sound way too heavy for a little boy, which threw me off the entire time. There are difficulty spikes all over the place, and especially the chase scenes are absolutely abysmal. If I were to guess, I'd say this game hasn't been playtested thoroughly.

I wish some of the checkpoints were placed differently (for instance, not at the beginning of a cutscene). As for the gameplay, it *is* innovative at times, I'll give it that, but … bottom line: I did not enjoy myself much of the time; I did not enjoy playing through this game. Even though I did finish pid, the experience was all in all too frustrating.

5.5/1o

(I have to pick Yes or No? Hm … then I rather do recommend this, but with a caution).

Pid shows everything it has to offer after the first two hours. The core mechanics feel great but the game built around them is unfocused. Something about the level design feels clumsy as though the developers were not quite sure what to do with the mechanics. It's alright but after BC: Rearmed I was expecting another classic which it definitely isn't. Looks and sounds great but is ultimately underwhelming.

There is only one reason I'm giving a thumb down and it's the fact that after three hours of playing I encountered a "Fatal Error in gc". Normally I wouldn't mind errors or glitches or bugs, but this rendered my save file unplayable. Up until that I had had a good experience. This abrupt stop to the good flow I'd been has made me uneager to pick up the game again for some time now, unfortunately. I am giving a thumb down merely to draw attention to the fact that it's possible that this happens to other players as well.

Pid has an eerie yet pretty art style, relaxing music and a slow pace. This works for some, for some it doesn't. I'm a sucker for platformers and I do like the relaxing pace of this game personally. I don't know if it'd get tedious after a while, but so far I liked it how I could just stand still and think in peace most of the time before "springing" into action. I didn't find so many secret areas yet, but I saw a lot of possible places that I failed to access. A nice added extra touch, I think.

The level of difficulty is decent. Not too complicated, but every once in a while you do have to stop to ponder about what to do. You die as easily as Mario, but you have infinite lives and usually respawn mere steps away from where you died. The game mechanics are simple but they surprised me pleasantly. I expected a "beam" to be for destroying enemies, but it actually works as tool for puzzle solving, The limited bombs you get are also fittingly strategic for this game in my opinion, but the mix of "vending machines" and "free" items is a little confusing. I ended up restocking on items only to receive the same item for free by destroying the next enemy.

All in all, the game works for me, while I understand why it doesn't work for some. I will pick it up again for sure after some time to "cool off" for like I said, my save file is unplayable now.

And in case it might be helpful in any way, I'll now try to describe the error situation in detail (spoiler alert)... Maybe it's useless, but oh well.

I'm using Windows 10. The error happened in "a Sitting Room", right after the boss, really. I ventured into the room above the limbless gate guardian's head. I cleared the room but noticed a spot I hadn't gotten into, so I left the room but changed my mind and came back to run through it one more time. I died and my restart point threw me back to the spot where you have to destroy the red enemy with a laser beam to clear the room. I did that again and once I dropped down to the entrance/exit, well... The game froze still. I caught a glimpse of the error message, but I could only make out the headline "Fatal error in gc" and the word "thread" in the actual message. I tried to bring up the task manager, but the now black screen of Pid made it impossible. I couldn't "bring up" the task manager, nor the error message, nor even the Skype I had on at the same time, because everything save for the, well, toolbar was untouchable covered by blackness. I could restart my computer normally because the start menu functioned, but when I restarted the game, well... It shows I am in "a Sitting Room" still and it shows me standing by the entrance/exit of the puzzle room I'd been in. But Pid is nowhere to be seen, only the ESC button yielded any response. "Restart from previous save point" made no difference. I did mess around for a while and tried everything I could think of but nothing worked. Thus, I need to start a new save file.

This game was in my library for some time, but I wasn't playing it, thinking that it is next weak game, like others that I recieved free. It was the big mistake - this game is really good one, with nice graphic, plot isn't the most interesting one, but gameplay still gives fun. Only disadvantage is the fact that it becomes boring when you play it on long sessions.

I don't see why is this game lost around steam. there is no love for it at all
In my opinion is one of the best platform games I played around on steam.
Its one of those games that I play and think, Dam thats a well made game! because the gameplay is just so smoth nothing to get anoyed by.
I will give this game a 9/10 and I only just played it for 1 hour
Also I wish kids would enjoy this type of games more than they enjoy COD!
