Now this is a mixed review... First I've ever felt compelled to write in fact. The game itself? Fantastic! The graphics are suitable for a game in this series and genre and the strategic gameplay is super addicting. What's the thumbs down for then you ask? Well about a year and a half ago when i got this game there was a vibrant F2P community and you had a lot of options as far as online players and matches. But the DEVS asked too much money for too little content and the community very rapidly vanished. The single player campaign leaves a lot to be desired and finding an online apponant can now take hours of searching. If the community picked back up and the "Online" aspect of JA Online became useable again, I would give this game 2 resounding thumbs up. but alas it's essentially a dead game for online players like myself.

This game is a fake F2P game, the DLC is worthless to buy because theres nothing new, most importantly the devs are not developing anymore. Don't pay money for it, otherwise you will regret.

If you play Jagged Alliance Online, don't buy the Campaign pack (DLC).. take a look on the forum first, everyone hates this game company and this game : http://steamcommunity.com/app/218450/discussions/

A terrible "free to play" game. Graphics are sub par, equipment is hard to come by, controls are difficult to remember. Combine that with a $30 Campaign DLC that is REQUIRED to advance, this game is pure crap.

I am a long time fan of turn-based strategy games. A lot of long-time strategy fans are going to be attracted by the "Jagged Alliance" name. Unfortunately, some business major put the skin of that respected brand onto a low-quality "pay-to-win" money sink. I expected a turn-based combat game similar to either the old X-Com: U.F.O. Defense or Final Fantasy Tactics. Instead I found a superficially similar game where you constantly face massive waves of enemies that just mindlessly charge you, pumping rounds into your face as fast as they can. When you're grinding small amounts of in-game money per mission to buy slightly better in-game equipment the other part of the title starts to hang in your mind.

When I see the word "online" added to the end of a known title I expect a faithful installment of that series which has been retooled to interact with other players in an online world. Instead I'm spending hours re-playing the same missions against the same bad artificial intelligence in an attempt to earn as much loot as possible. Jagged Alliance is not supposed to be Diablo III. All of the best qualities of the old Jagged Alliance series are brought down hard by the worst qualities of a "pay to win" game... but you're not even playing with other human players. The online part of this game is the leader-boards, the in-game chat window, the ability to form clans, or the ability to play in a segregated online arena against other human players; players skip the grinding with real money.

This game is about forcing you to mindlessly grind the same missions over again in the hopes you'll spend real money to get the in-game money faster. There are many hours required to build up your mercenary company's money just to keep your mercenaries employed (they require in-game paychecks based on weekly real-time deadlines). If you want to expand the base of operations, improve their gear, or even just replace the ammunition they're using, you had better have a few hours every night for a few dozen replays of the same mission. Keeping your head above water, let alone earning enough money to actually upgrade equipment, means a lot of time... way too much time.

As you eek out an existence the game constantly reminds you that you can buy more money using real cash via Steam. I can't imagine anybody wanting to. I spend hundreds of hours on a game before I stop playing, but this one's just a treadmill that never really changes. A few times I found what looked like expensive weapons, but nobody in my mercenary company could use them. Buying one in-game costs more than my company earns in a week, but the rare drops can only be sold to the compter-run shop, which doesn't buy them for much more than the "junk" rarity gear that usually drops. Even a first aid kit costs thousands (or even tens of thousands) of in-game dollars; not that they're worth using, anyway. There is no wound to justify spending so much. Every level-up, every out-levelled piece of equipment, every paycheck, everything you do costs a little bit of that all-precious money... money you are reminded you could get instantly with a real money purchase.

That's all this game is: a money sink. There are paid expansions, too, but I don't intend to waste more hours grinding through them. This could have been a great opportunity for a simple cooperative clan-based PvE or PvP game funded by a mix of real money permanently unlocking your company's mercenaries plus some purely cosmetic gear. Those sorts of microtransactions are the way to keep a gaming community interested. Too bad this game became yet another missed opportunity.

A bad and shallow attempt to revive the classic. Doesnt live up to anything that is `Jagged alliance`. No depth, no atmosphere or tactics. I got fooled by the name but uninstalled fast.

After playing over 3 hours i wont shed a tear uninstalling it...and that comes from a real Jagged Alliance franchise fan.
Whatever you loved about the JA games, you wont find here.
No deep story, not really tactical maneuvers, clumsy combat, unlogic line of sight...the list is endless.

However what got me most was the utterly bad AI of your computer opponents :
(" Hey, i see 2 guys with heavy machine guns, let's run straight toward them to stand in their face and see what happens!!")
even better
("there was just some guy, he came around the corner and shot me in the head and disappeared again...I will just stand here and see what happens next -> hey, it happened again, who would have thought?!. maybe next round is different thou, i just wait here..")

and the missing little things i loved in the other..no sorry..the /real/ JA games.
Really, you cant lay down,it's not an option. You may only crouch.
Thinking of luring your opponents into a trap? Positioning your guys and then shoot on the ground to make some noise?
Yea, no..not really. You can't shoot on the floor anymore. And even if you could, most of the time the AI doesn't react to noise.
If that hasnt bothered you enough? If you have played the first tutorial combat you have played them all. Every combat looks and feels just the same.

I sure wont touch this sad excuse of a game anymore.

It could have been a nice game, it does have the basis to ba a nice game, but it's an awful cash grab, fall of bugs and with no inspiration.
The controls are clunky, and you can't modify them, the levels are small and uninspired, missions are very linear and tedious (basically go from point A to point B killing everyone on your way and back), there is no real strategy in any aspect of the game, combats are punch for punch, there's only ever one way to do a mission, no replayablility and you can't play every aspect of the campaign without having to pay real money (on top of the campaign) to play certain mission, use some functions of the game...
PvP is definitely pay2win since only people who pay real money are able to afford the gear that will match their level (otherwise you're just undergeared and get torn appart).
It could have been a good game... but it isn't.

Cheap ripoff of an awesome franchise. Pay to Win. You can't even play the Singleplayer Mode without paying 25 €.

Sadly this game has nothing to do with the old Jagged Alliance games. It's a casual game with not a lot of free content. There are far fewer options regarding tactics than in the old games, and you have no freedom which missions you take. It's mostly dumb clicking on enemies, you don't feel responsible for anything, there is no overall mission, just clicking through a scripted sequence of scripted scenarios to collect rewards. So sad, I really loved the series.

If you come to this game expecting tactical, smart turn based gaming, you're going to be let down. Especially if you're a fan of Jagged Alliance 2. This is hyper simplistic and boring, whilst also managing to turn firefights into slugfests instead of deadly, precise ballets.

I've rarely been so disappointed.

If you like Jagged Alliance, this is not it. I'm a big fan of Jagged series, even the newer Back in Action but this is not Jagged Alliance, this is totally something else.. I don't like it.

Not actually f2p.
You can only play a few tutorial missions in the campaign and then need to pay 25€ to unlock the rest. You "can" play pvp, but it has no matchmaking and is as unbalanced as it can possibly be. Imagine getting your level 8 team put against a level 30+ team with you not being able to scratch people with headshots but die to a single shot in the toe.

Being a huge fan of all games Jagged Alliance, I thought this would be the end all of the series! Finally Multiplayer! Active support and updates! Nope. I was wrong. I made the mistake of putting money into this game as well and found it did nothing good for me except keep my mercs on my payroll without rehiring. Buying gear and the like, still only manages to get you so far. Multiplayer is a joke as there arent enough people even playing the game to merit earning honor which unlocks better items. Warzones are great if you have an alliance. Once again, not enough people to merit them. No new missions since the game came out pretty much. Last update I believe was last year?? Dissappointed doesn't explain it. Thanks to this I won't buy the other titles that came out after this as well. RIP JA.

It gets boring real quick. It's just... why make a game this way?

Like this, let's say someone made a game called Chess Online. Alright! Chess! Online! Awsome!
But then when you play it you realize that chess pieces doesn't really move the way that you are used to, some moves have simply not been implemented into the game.
And for some reason the matches all take place on a 6x6 board. Well, hmmm, ok, maybe this is an interesting new way of playing chess. At least you can upgrade your pieces with new moves and hats. Hats are really important in modern games, that is a factor noone should overlook.
If you pay enough money you might actually be able to upgrade your pieces enough to take on the computer controlled pieces, in the campaign you need to pay for to get access to.
All in all, it looks like chess, at least the pieces do, but the board and how the pieces move, well, it's not chess.

And 'Jagged Alliance Online' has nothing to do with 'Jagged Alliance', no more than checkers has to do with chess. Over simplified and poorly implemented.

It kinda gets boring when you have to go over and over again just to beat this really hard part of a mission and it gets worse and worse every time and thats why i quit it i don't understand how people put up with it when they are literally forced to do the same mission over and over again because you forgot the one really hard to pull off tactical manuever

The game is essentially a demo. Your content is heavily limited at a certain point and progressing beyond that point is essentially impossible.

Don't play this.
For old Jagged Alliance players this is the worst they could have done to the game. After I played JA:Back in action, I thought that they already made it as bad as possible, now I played this utter bull**** and I can't understand how the developers of this game can live with themselves after ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the JA franchise that bad. Also, to ask to pay for this. The developers of this are braindead (who play this aren't better)

TL:DR
Don't play this game, even if you're new to JA. If you're an old JA fan, don't even look at this. And go play the good old JA2. This is a total Pay to win game. after several hours of grinding I understood that there's no chance to win this without paying or spending hundreds of hrs farming.
