Edizione speciale

Defender's Quest Deluxe (DX) Edition is here! Improved graphics, more story, better performance, more of everything you love!

This is without a doubt, the best tower defense game ever created by humankind. The story is riveting enough to hold your attention from start to finish. The characters are wonderful in their own quirky ways. The gameplay is new and exciting combining the best of two genres. I've played this game since the very first demo was released all those years ago and the new deluxe updates just make me realize how far this has gone and how well it has aged. Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten is just incredible and I hope a lot of people will come to recognize it as one of the best games online. The only problem.... Defender's Quest 2 isn't out yet. Just kidding. But seriously, please get Defender's Quest 2 out soon and make it as awesome as the first and keep creating more of this. These is a good game and any other works of yours that are as good as this deserve to be recognized for their creativity.

A wonderful hybrid tower defense/strategy RPG game with a nice diversity of skills and depth of character development. The enemies and scenarios are varied and interesting, the writing is genuinely funny, and it's just generally a joy to play. It's got tons of content and replayability, too, with multiple variations of each level, bonus challenge levels, endless levels, and an expansive new game plus containing new content and side quests. Highly recommended!

A fun little combination of RPG and tower defence with a not too bad story and setting. Definite buy in a sale.

A very cool tower defence game with a strong JRPG influence. If you played any game from Final Fantasy series (especially any from 1-6 range), you will easily find similarities in storytelling (character introduction and relationships) and classes. Good story, nice music and a tactical challenge that is not overwhelming make this game entertain the player for hours. Definitely recommended!

Fun game, if somewhat limited and repetitive after a while. The undercurrent of humor makes reading the story particularly engaging, and the battle tactics, while somewhat simple, are still deep enough to be well worth checking out.
If you need more challenge, there is an achievement for running through the game with no generic troops that makes you think more about optimal placement. New game plus adds some side stories, but they are in addition to playing the whole game again. Still, it was interesting to see all of that.
Also, the recent graphical upgrade makes it look much more smooth, and that's always nice.
Haven't played much since that to see what else they might have added, so there may be more to like than what I've mentioned.

Not a great story by any means (but not a terrible one) though it has fun gameplay.

Tower defense games are addictive.

It's like Final Fantasy finally meets Tower Defense!
Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten is yet another tower defense game on the list. But surprisingly, this one comes together with a little twist attached to it. It’s an RPG Tower Defense Game! Yeah, you've heard it right. Someone actually combined both of those genres. Initially it may sound like an unlikely combination, but like salt and caramel, they've really complemented each other in surprising ways.
This game is a 2D game with a unique blend of Tower Defense and RPG created by Level Up Labs. Rather than having "towers", you have party members that you need to strategically place them around the map, of which purpose is to defend your main character Azra. Unlike a simple tower defense game, however, you can level up and equip items for your companions to help them improve in combat. A very nice combination indeed!

You take the role of Azra, a royal librarian of the Kingdom of Ash which is currently being ravaged by a unknown plague. Azra gets infected and thrown into 'The Pit', a place where all dead or dying are kept to maintain the kingdom safe from plague. Those who die from the plague become 'Revenants', undead monsters that are immune to physical harm. But Azra soon discovers that she has the power to enter both the living world and the 'Half-Way' world, a place between the living realm and the realm of the dead. In this realm, she can summon her companions to fight the Revenants in their spirit form and eventually beat the crap out of them.

There are around 30 levels to survive, but you'll lose more time than you think while playing them. You can actually go back and try to beat levels on harder difficulties. (The range starts from Casual, continues with Normal and Advanced but doesn't forget to include the Extreme difficulty.) Doing so, throws a tougher, more varied group of enemies at you that offers greater XP and loot to help you in your journey.
During battle you can change the attitude of your party members. You can tell them to favor boss monsters, to attack only the weak enemies, to use the more powerful skills on stronger enemies and so on. In addition, your companions have boost levels that you need to increase in order to give them access to their strongest skills. However, doing that you spend precious energy, called Psi in the game, every time you boost their abilities, which will sometimes force you to make tough decisions.

You're also given a tremendous amount of control when it comes to the game's speed. You can pause everything, while still being able to place units and upgrade them, or pump the speed all the way up to 4x if you're the impatient type of gamer. Defender's Quest is very respectful of the player in every number of aspects. Controls and hotkeys are configurable, cutscenes and conversations can be skipped and rewatched later if you choose so, and I'll tell you a secret. The rate at which experience is earned can also be increased from the options. The developers put a lot of love in their game as you can see. That being said, you can get to the end on normal difficulty in five hours or less. But personally, I've spent more than 14 hours going back and forward to complete perfect runs on every stage. There's plenty of optional content that will make up for your hard earned money.

Other than fighting through the story, at a certain point you will gain access to a list of challenge bonus battles (including two endless battles). These will offer you yet more experience as well as precious unique books to augment your main character fighting skills. Bonus battles will automatically be unlocked once you earn enough blue and yellow stars from fighting in normal battles.

Once you complete the normal game, you will unlock the New Game+. Which is the story written all over again, but at a much harder level, with even better rewards and the ability to upgrade all those unique items you've found during the normal game. The New Game+ will also have it's own bonus battle list.

Pros
- The Deluxe version of the game just got released! And has features such as: From improved graphics to expanded new story content, better performance and more of everything you've loved about the original version!
- The in-game dialogue between your companions is funny and quite entertaining.
- Friendly developers that are willingly to fix any bugs you're reporting them. They are hard working to create the best experience for their game even after four years of the release!
- Support for Achievements, Trading Cards, Steam Workshop and Steam Cloud.
- Now available in 60 FPS.
- Behind the scenes journal detailing the game's development.
- RPG elements and clever options keep replayability high.
- Lots of levels and difficulty settings.
- New Game+ included.
- Awesome plot driven gameplay to keep you entertained the entire game.
- Multiple endings to keep you coming for more.

Cons
- Not many actually, I love it exactly how it is now. The Deluxe version improved every aspect of the game, fixing everything that was wrong or poor made.
- Steam Workshop disables achievements.
- No voice acting included in the Deluxe version.
- Defender's Quest 2 isn't out yet, give it to meeeeee already!

Conclusion
I just can't say how good this game is. It's the definition of perfection. Defender’s Quest let's you change from a casual to an insanely difficult game without having to load a different savegame. From a slow moving battle, to a fast moving one. You can grind endlessly for experience or take your battles to the doorstep of impossibility. This is a game for all the types of gamers. And also a great way of introducing someone into the Tower Defense genre. You choose exactly how you want to play it. This game deservers to be the indie Game of The Year and in my heart it will always be the best tower defense ever made! I highly recommend it even at full price for reasons such as: They've created an upgrade for the actual game even after a few years of the game's actual release, keeping it FREE for the owners of the original game!

Before Defender's Quest, I would not have considered the combination of RPG and Tower Defense to be anything that could capture me the way it did. And then added a surprisingly engaging story on top. Like it!
